This alternates between the story of Anthony and Rebecca and that of their 25 year old daughter Linda, who finds herself caught up in a particularly gruesome murder investigation. It's an unusual premise for a novel- a father/daughter pest extermination business combined with a love story- and I'm not sure it works. I do know, however, that I kept reading. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. An unusual one.

Linda and her father Anthony are exterminators; together they run “Donovan and Daughter”. While Linda has worked with him all of her adult life, at 25, she is ready to go to college. Her father is sad to see her go, and after an argument, Linda goes on a job alone. There, she finds a dead woman - with a rat chewing on her face!! As if that isn’t disturbing enough, the police suspect Linda’s father is somehow involved. What follows is a twisty, character-driven thriller unlike any other that I’ve read.

Well, the rat chewing off a face definitely caught my attention! In that way (and a few other parts), it bordered on a horror story. But, ultimately this is a suspenseful thriller that kept me guessing all throughout. Told in dual points of view, Linda is trying to get to the truth while her father has compiled his story in “acts” that he has written in journals for her. This made for a story that was extremely unique, in a way that worked! I really appreciated how the author wasn’t afraid to ”write outside the box” in putting this story together. I would love to read more of her work in the future!

Overall I thought this was a very well written book. It had the things that readers love but it was not one of my favorites.
It fell a bit short for me.
It had several things going on to make a person keep reading but to me it was a bit predictable. I've read books like this and loved them. I only liked this one. It was just ok.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC.

𝑴𝒚 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒅𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒓, 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑰'𝒎 𝒏𝒐 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅, 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔: 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒆 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒖𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒓𝒏 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕, 𝒂𝒏 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒕, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒈𝒆.

A few days after finishing, I"m still going back and forth on this book. To start with, it had an unusual format, told in five acts. That made some of the chapters much longer than what I usually care for. It also started at the end and unfolded one layer at a time, which I got impatient with at times. However, with all that being said, this book taught me patience. I kept reading because I knew I was on the verge of something big being revealed, and I was right.

Linda and her father are exterminators, but there's an issue--Linda has been accepted to college and wants to follow her dream while Dad wants her to remain part of the family business. Linda takes a solo call to exterminate some roaches from an apartment building as it's the anniversary of her mother's death, and her father is grieving. She finds a dead woman in one of the units, and her face was deliberately smeared with peanut butter so a rat would attack her. My interest was definitely piqued because this was personal and vile!

Linda is an interesting character. She never knew her mother Rebecca, only that she died soon after Linda was born. But when the police find evidence that Linda's dad may have ties to this mysterious dead woman, he goes on the run, leaving Linda with five notebooks that her father has instructed her to read.

What she finds in those notebooks will change everything. This book really begged some important questions: which matters more, that your parent protected you or HOW they protected you? What do you do when you're confronted with some very ugly truths about the person who has ever only shown you love?

I kept thinking about this book long after finishing the final page. Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane books for this early copy. This book will publish July 18, 2023.

Twenty-five-year-old Linda lives in New York City and works with her father at Donovan and Daughter’s Exterminators. On the anniversary of her mother’s death, Linda heads to work at a posh apartment building, while her father visits her mother’s grave. In one of the apartments, Linda is shocked to discover a dead woman, partially eaten by rats. When the cops have questions, Linda’s father is nowhere to be found. What happened to this dead woman? Why has Anthony Donovan gone into hiding?

T.M. Dunn tells the story in dual timelines, alternating between Linda in the present and Anthony’s notebook entries about his past. I found the characters to be well-developed and realistic. I really liked the character of Linda, and her queer love interest was a definite plus for me. However, I really struggled with the past notebook entries told by Anthony. The pace was much slower than Linda’s chapters and the journal entries did not hold my interest as much as the rest of the story. I also found myself disappointed in the ending. It left a lot of questions unanswered for me, but I like happy endings where everything is tied up. I give this book 3.5/5 stars rounded down because of my lack of enjoyment of the past journal entries. Again, the chapters written in the present were superb.

MY REVIEW::

Where do i even start with this one......

OH EM GEE this was a WILD book! So crazy, it makes you stop and think, this could probably be real life for someone and that's fucking scary!

This is a great serial killer suspense thriller told in 2 POVs. It takes you on a crazy journey between Linda and her father and what leads up to current days' events...--a dead body being feasted on by a rat, in the building her and her dad service as exterminators. From there is just gets even more eerie and intriguing, was it murder? or natural and unfortunate events.

Pretty much its so creepy, its good. LOL
You have to read this to believe it! I promise you won't be disappointed.

O. M. G. Go in blind with this one and don't read it alone at night!!! The story is centered around Linda and her Dad Anthony. They run an extermination business out of NYC. There's a dead body and five creepy diaries that just get creepier and creepier the deeper you fall into the story. Anthony wears many hats and the reveals move like a drop ceiling. Twisty, gutsy, and exciting. I look forward to more of this authors work. Thank you NetGalley and Crooked lane books for this wonderful ARC

My first read by T.M. Dunn.
Linda and her father Anthony are the proprietors of Donovan and Donovan Exterminating in New York City. The first chapter let me know that there was something going on here that did not seem good. The story is told by Linda in the now and her father tells the story of how he met her mother(his wife). He writes as if he’s speaking to Linda, and his thoughts are, shall we say, not right.
Holy Donovan family! What a twisted family. The more I read from Anthony’s perspective, the more cray cray this story became. This was one of those,I just need to read one more chapter because I had to see how it was going to come together and also how it was going to end. I had my suspicions on where the story was going, but I was 100% wrong. The Donovan’s were one heck of a family. I was thinking a lot about nature versus nurture, and I would not have been at all surprised if Linda’s story had ended rather differently. A quick read and I’m definitely interested in trying another book by this author.

Her Fathers Daughter
By: T. M. Dunn
5🐁🐁🐁🐁🐁

Linda Donovan is working with her father Anthony with their business Donovan and Daughter Exterminators in NYC. They are used to finding rats, mice and squirrels. On this day Linda discovers a dead body in one of the more prominent apartments.
🐁
Her father raised her since her mother died shortly after her birth. He has an unhealthy obsession with his dead wife.
🐁
Part of the story is told by Anthony telling his daughter about his sorted past. I had no idea where this was going but it was creepy and the things horror movies are made out of. I love a good scary movie and I could see the scenes play out until the CRAZY ending!!!
🐁
Thank you Thriller Book Lovers for introducing me to this author. I will definitely look for more of T.M. Dunn’s books. Available July 18, 2023.

Linda and her father are exterminators. She is leaving for college soon, but he wants her to stay and run the family business. When she goes to an apartment building by herself to exterminate some roaches, she finds a lady dead in her bed. She calls her dad and the police right away. Her dad tells her to leave. Linda has been raised by her father and he told her that her mother Rebecca died soon after she was born. When the police find evidence that Linda's dad may have ties to this dead woman, he runs. Linda is left with five notebooks that her father has told her to read, telling her about his life and how he met her mother Rebecca.

HER FATHER'S DAUGHTER was a creepy mysterious book that kept me turning the pages. At first, I was confused by the notebooks and what was really happening in the story. About halfway through, everything came together! I did feel bad for Linda because she learned some pretty terrible things about the father she loved and admired. For a debut, I found this book to be quite good and I will definitely pick up T.M. Dunn's novels in the future.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane books for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

4.5 Stars

Once again, I came across a book where I am at loss with words. I requested this book at Netgalley because I was intrigued by the cover, the title, and the synopsis of the story. I love thrillers, especially the ones that keep you at the edge of your seat until the end. I was hooked when I read the summary of the book, and it was the main reason that I requested the book, I needed to see what was going to happen. I did feel that the beginning had a slow started, and it took me a little to get into story. Once the book picked up, I knew that I was in trouble because I didn’t want to put the book down, staying up late to read, because I wanted to see what was going to happen, how it would end. There was so much happening, that I had trouble finding a place to stop. I finished Her Father’s Daughter last night and yet I still find myself thinking about it, and telling others about the book.

The descriptions in that book…I found myself feeling everything that they were feeling, and doing everything that the character’s were doing. I loved both Linda’s POV and her father’s notebooks, but the five notebooks was my favorite, the way he described everything, it was unlike anything that I have read before. While reading his notebooks, I was both amazed and terrified. I loved that they were written in acts, as it was part of a play. As I read them, I couldn’t help but wondered what Linda thought when she read them. I couldn’t even begin to imagine discovering something about someone you loved. Her Father’s Daughter is the reason that I love thrillers, the ones that have you asking questions while you are reading the book.

Her Father’s Daughter is unlike any thriller that I have read before, it’s probably one of the best. I’m amazed that this is the author’s first book, and I already know that T.M Dunn will be an author who I will look forward for the new releases. I’m glad that I got a chance to read an early copy of Her Father’s Daughter , and would highly recommend to any thriller/crime fans. Be prepared for a thrilling ride!

Dual POV's between Linda Donovan and her father Anthony alternate in this domestic suspense thriller. They work together in a pest control business deep in New York City. Linda however is about to leave for college. Before she leaves, Linda goes on a solo exterminating job in a swanky Park Ave apartment when she finds a body. Her Dad mysteriously disappears, but is it because he is the killer?
What a wild ride! This book was a lot of fun with moments I did not see coming! A very enjoyable and tense mystery.

I enjoyed the premise of the book but this book was a very slow. There was a lot of description that was not necessary to the story and very confusing at times. I enjoyed reading the letters.

Her Father’s Daughter is such a mind boggling book. It will keep you guessing till the end and you will find yourself tangled in the deep family twisted secrets. This book blurs the line between fiction and reality.

The protagonist is oblivion to deadly secrets and harsh truth. But all she knows is that her mother is dead and she has been living with her father since last 25 years. She joined the family business to help her father. Everything was fine until one day she eye witness the dead body of Mrs Lyons as after visiting her mother’s grave because it was her mother’s death anniversary, she heads to a Park Avenue Apartment building to work. It was such a horrendous death. Her death not only shocked her but also unveiled some secrets and as the protagonist reads the diary/ five damning acts written in five notebooks by her father, more secrets gets exposed. And it becomes such a predicament for her to whom she should trust now?

The book has it all; twisted family secrets, Murder/ gruesome death, true love gone wrong, domestic suspense, serial killer on the loose, police investigation, and the most terrifying ending. The author has created such a mysterious character and this suspenseful psychological mystery/ thriller will keep you guessing till the end and revelations at the end will shook you.

Thank you Netgalley, Author and Publisher.

This book was not at all what I was expecting!
The creep factor jumped off the scale. My skin was wrinkled with goosebumps the deeper I got into the book.
If you want a chilling, eyes are wide while reading book, search no more.

Unique, intriguing and engaging, I enjoyed this book but felt the pacing fell a little flat for me. The characters were well fleshed out and the serial killer aspect was eerie and creepy.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel! It was unique compared to many other thrillers I have read and the two different first person narratives really put together the plot. And the serial killer is a well developed scary character. And Linda is very likeable.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read a copy of this book. This book was slow and too detailed for me. The ending wasn't that great, either. It is a mystery book and a good story line, just not for me.
