For the first time in my NetGalley history, I DNF this book. I tried and failed to work with it at least half a dozen times over the past 8-10 months and I just couldn't fight through it.

The book reads less story-like than the beloved *Tuesdays with Morrie*. There is a situation explained, then 1384039580 questions meant to "guide" you through it with a new perspective, but often times you have to wade through a veritable sea of alternate possibilities that don't match your situation and/or apply to you at all. This one felt far more preachy and I missed the human aspect of Morrie Schwartz.

Overall: 1 star (I really just did not like this and cannot recommend)

The Wisdom of Morrie should be required reading for every person.

We seem to embrace every phase of our lives except getting older. We always want to say that they look old but somehow assume that we do not. This book will help encourage you to embrace life at any age. Be the best your can be no matter what your age. If people don't embrace their life as they age then we cannot expect anyone else to look forward and embrace age.

This is a book that should be read and reread. You will pick up something different every time. I now have a copy of the book and also the audiobook. Sometimes it is easier and you get something else when you listen. I love to be read to sometimes.

I was lucky to receive an advance copy of The Wisdom of Morrie by Morrie Schwartz from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I LOVED Tuesday's with Morrie so was very excited to be able to read/review this. This book really taught me a lot about growing older and how to do it gracefully. It also gave me many ideas and insights to share with my own parents and in laws. Thanks for the opportunity to read this.

I requested a preview copy of THE WISDOM OF MORRIE (edited by Rob Schwartz) after seeing an interview on PBS NewsHour:
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/the-wisdom-of-morrie-offers-insights-on-living-and-aging-joyfully

Rob Schwartz is the son of the professor who was profiled in Mitch Albom's bestseller Tuesdays with Morrie. In this latest text, Morrie's thoughts on "Living and Aging Creatively and Joyfully" are complied, hoping to contribute to Morrie's wish of "help[ing] people maintain an active and vibrant life." Writing in Morrie's voice Schwartz states "trying to become the best person we can be, aging well, and coming to terms with our issues might be the most important and meaningful goals to strive for in later life." He further notes that "this book is for everyone, though it may especially speak to people over sixty-five and retired." The reader is able to share Morrie's thoughts and fears about aging and he provides numerous inspirational stories like the one about the man who graduated high school at age 81. Overall, the conversational tone is very welcoming and reassuring. I especially loved his comments on solitude: "solitude lets us be in a calm, peaceful, quiet environment, doing work we wish to do, thinking through issues we are concerned about, appreciating nature or art, engaging in a spiritual practice. It provides the opportunity to relax and be ourselves out of other people's control, scrutiny, and judgment. .... solitude permits us to connect deeply with ourselves and our universe."

As a lover of the book, "Tuesdays With Morrie" I was really excited to read this one. It was a good read, not sure if I would purchase the book as I didn't really feel like it offered any new insight.

'The Wisdom of Morrie: Living and Aging Creatively and Joyfully' by Morrie Schwartz, edited by Rob Schwartz (Blackstone Publishing, 276 pages, April 18)

“Tuesdays with Morrie” was published more than 25 years ago, and since that time has spawned a movie, a play and a throng of other offshoots — but nothing like this book, “The Wisdom of Morrie.” That's because none of those works following Mitch Albom’s seminal 1997 book was edited by Morrie Schwatz’s son, Rob Schwartz, who took direction (and notes, conversations and memories) firsthand from his father’s personal tutorage. A beautifully crafted book — from a supple library binding to a color scheme Rob Schwartz said he insisted on — the subtitle, “Living and Aging Creatively and Joyfully,” is but the tip of what this small treasure offers. Deep subjects — the importance of forgiving, the universality of faith, living a life of quality — are explored and touched upon simply and in a style that will be welcomed and understood by those who have spent any time at all with the old professor, whether in person, by word or on screen. Rob Schwartz said it took him a quarter of a century to develop the project, largely for personal reasons, and the time invested is well on display in this labor of love.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I just don't think this was the book for me in the time period of my life.
I felt a little depressed after reading it.
“Many wish that there were a guide to aging well in the mold of Tuesdays with Morrie, the classic based on the wisdom of the late Morrie Schwartz. His son Rob has made it so. Using voluminous notes from his father’s archive, Schwartz has masterfully given us The Wisdom of Morrie: Living and Aging Creatively and Joyfully. This book will change forever how you see the gift of aging.”

for me it was 3 stars

Readers first came to know Morrie Schwartz, professor of sociology and therapist, through Mitch Albom's best-seller Tuesdays with Morrie. Now we get to hear Morrie's own voice via a manuscript found by his son years after Morrie's death.

Living and aging creatively and joyfully - who wouldn't want to know more about that? Especially when written by a man many already know about and admire?

This book about aging well will resonate with those who find themselves past middle age. Morrie writes of coming to terms with the challenges of aging and offers insight into how to embrace the life we have and make the most of it. While the writing style can sometimes appear to wander, there is much wisdom within these pages!

My thanks to Blackstone Publishing for allowing me to access a DRC via NetGalley. Publication is scheduled for 4/18/23. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are freely given.

The Wisdom of Morrie by Morrie Schwartz.

Thank you Netgalley and Blackstone publishing for this arc. I loved Mitch Albom’s Tuesdays With Morrie and really enjoyed hearing Morrie’s thoughts while reading The Wisdom of Morrie.

Who am I really? What have I done? What is important and meaningful to me? What difference does it make that I have lived? What does it mean to be truly human?

Morrie Schwartz, the beloved subject of the classic, multimillion-copy number one bestseller Tuesdays with Morrie, explores these questions and many more in this book. An inspiring read. Highly recommend this one!

I was glad to have read this even though I felt like it was for a slightly older audience (I’m 39). Kind of like cozying up with a warm cup of tea. Nothing too groundbreaking but we all need reminders of the important things in life from time to time.
