I thought this was a fairly strong book, though not without its flaws. I encountered a few minor issues, but nothing too significant. I was curious to find out what would happen next, although it didn't hold my attention as tightly as I had expected. There were some unexpected twists that I appreciated.
This story is told from dual perspectives. The writing is very repetitive. I couldn’t connect with the characters. The story was hard to get into.
I really enjoyed this book! I was surprised at the twists and turns in the book. It definitely had me from page one and I couldn't put it down! I had to know what would happen. I would definitely recommend this book.
What a thrill ride this book takes you on. It's about a couple desperate for a baby and after trying everything including IVF. The last resort is to adopt. With much deeper lies and secrets happening you don't know who to believe. With shocking twists that will blow your mind.
If They Knew by Sophie Flynn was so good that I read it in two sittings. If I have to choose one favorite character, I would pick Charlie. Yes, this story is based on Hannah's past but it was Charlie who chose to protect his wife from the dangers that she didn't know she was in. But if roles were reversed, I don't think Hannah would do the same for her husband. Once or twice, Charlie slips up (gets caught in his lie) and Hannah suspects him.
There's a shocking twist in the second half of the story and another unexpected twist at the end. The secret that Hannah's been holding onto for too long (something to do with Jesse and New York) - when this was revealed, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I felt it didn't do justice to the tension and suspense built from the beginning of the story.
Niggles aside, this book kept me hooked from start to finish. This is the second book by this author that I have read. I love Sophie Flynn's storytelling and I am looking forward to reading more of her books.
A narrative of danger and deception that's as relentless as it is compelling, this thriller will have you questioning every motive.
With its adrenaline-fueled narrative and breathtaking surprises, this thriller delivers a roller-coaster ride you won't want to end.
I couldn’t get into this book.
I usually love a dual perspective and timelines. But this one just felt different. The book felt very over the top which I like but this one just felt too far fetched.
I felt like I couldn’t get to know Hannah and Charlie.
Thank you Hera Books and Netgalley
Wow that was a great thriller, and so unexpected.
I would highly recommend - more from Sophie please.
I found this to be a pretty solid read, but not perfect. I had some issues but nothing major. I had to keep reading to know what will happen next but I wasn't as gripped as I hoped to be. Had some good twists I didnt see coming.
Thanks netgalley for letting me read this really interesting book I could not wait to find out what happened in the end and I rarely do this but I actually had to have a look as the suspense was driving me nuts.
Hannah and Charlie desperately wanted a baby, after having had fertility treatment for many years and each time they went through it they were destroyed by not getting pregnant.
They were then advised to try to adopt, which they did and eventually found a little girl whose mother had died and needed to be adopted.
Everything went according to plan, they met the people who were fostering Issy the little girl, and then eventually they met Issy and fell immediately in love.
But Hannah had a life before Charlie, she had been in New York and met a famous pop star called Jesse Carter, and had nearly got her life ruined by hum.
But she came home met Charlie and was in love, but on the news Hannah heard that Jesse had been murdered and everything she tried to forget has come back to haunt her.
Good story and really nail biting.

It will have you hooked from the first page
You will definitely not want to put it down
A really good author Sophie is
Thanks NetGalley
Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC. This is my honest review.
The description of this book is the reason I requested to read this title. This book has a lot of triggers for some such as infertility, adoption, and murder. Our main characters want to have a child but find themselves in a position where they cannot have one. They decide to adopt a little girl. While in the process of the adoption, a murder took place where the main character Hannah has a connection to the victim. I do not believe in spoiling books so I am withholding a lot of information. The story was suspenseful enough to keep me interested throughout this read.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. A good twisty read where things are not as they seem. Secrets and murky pasts add to the suspense in this well written book. A great read!
I am a huge Sophie Flynn fan girl, and this latest offering is just brilliant. Sophie combines sadly relatable life experiences of so many with a dark, pacy plot that you just cannot put down. I was gripped. One of the best thrillers I have read in 2023. Five stars.
TW: Infertility
After years of infertility and heartbreak, Hannah and Charlie are finally going to get their dream family. Two-year-old Isabelle is a week away from being theirs; they just have to get through the final adoption approval process.
But when a global popstar is found murdered at the celebrity members’ club in their sleepy Gloucestershire village, Hannah fears her past is finally catching up with her. Exposing the truth could see her lose everything… her husband, Isabelle – perhaps even her life.
So, If They Knew was one of those books for me that I enjoyed while reading as long as I didn't think about the storyline too much. There are parts that seem implausible and far fetched, but if you just want a decent book with a decent story that's entertaining, this will work.
Thank you to Sophie Flynn, Netgalley, and Hera Books for providing me a copy in exchange for my honest review.

As the couple get drawn in further to the murky world of celebrity and murder, they soon find themselves caught in a nightmare, forced to make terrible choices.
This book was great with the plot and the twists, it kept me hooked til the very end. It takes the issues of infertility and adoption and mixes it with a thriller aspect. I highly recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.
An exhilarating and totally satisfying read. I read it breakneck fast, such a brutally good page-turner. Yet another fine outing from a master of thrillers. It hits the ground running and the pace never misses a beat. An absolutely gripping thriller that will keep you reading late into the night, unable to put the book down for a second.
I have enjoyed Sophie Flynn’s previous books and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. This was a very poignant story covering infertility and adoption. We meet Hannah and Charlie who after struggling with unsuccessful IVF find that they have been accepted to adopt two year old Isabelle. A body of a well known pop star, Jesse Carter, who had a bad reputation has been found at a private members club near their home. Hannah, unbeknown to Charlie, met Jesse years ago in New York and they had a relationship but events happened then that she has kept secret all these years. She is terrified that if all this is revealed it could put their adoption under threat. But what she doesn’t realise is that Charlie has been keeping secrets from her too. I felt the pain of Hannah and Charlie all the way through the book. This is a very emotional thriller with likeable characters , plenty of tension and twists and turns making it a book you won’t be able to put down.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and re w this book,
A dark and interesting domestic thriller focusing on infertility and secrets in a marriage. The murder nearby throws this marital couple into a free fall, when nothing in certain anymore.
This book was heart wrenching as much as it was suspenseful and it was such a compelling and riveting read. I loved it and felt so many emotions when reading it. Truly fantastic!
