This was so fun! It has an age range of 7-8 but my son is 9 and still enjoyed them. I would say they aren’t scary stories ( though younger or more sensitive kids may. You know your kid) but they are spooky fun.

This was such a fun and adventurous book of stories to read around the campfire with your family and friends! Perfect for all ages and none of the stories were too scary. Thank you to Kelly Anne McLellan for writing such a delightful book!

A reasonable fist at the hardest genre to really get right – horror for the very young. Only one or two of these seemed really memorable ("Clap Clap" the prime instance), but they all have a little something or other, and all are over in moments so you can quickly move on to another. Some are certainly on the naffer side, leaving too much hanging or wimping out, so three and a half stars is about the best I can give.

Campfire Stories is the perfect book for kids and just the right amount of scare. Really good book for camping or just a story. Highly recommend

I loved most of the stories. A couple of the stories were obviously for REALLY young children, but most were still funny or a little spooky to me!

We took this book on our 16 night camping trip and loved listening/reading to the stories. It was great to have new campfire stories that were age appropriate for my kids. (They’re 8 and. 9 years old.) The stories are just long enough for reading around the campfire. We usually did 2-3 stories each night. I’d recommend these stories for your next camp out or around the fire pit at home.

Great concept, less than stellar execution.

With 16 different stories to chose from, Campfire Stories takes recognizable ghost stories and adapts them for a younger audience. I appreciate the concept, but the actual book in itself fell very short for me, and that is quite pun intended. While I enjoyed the adaptations, each story was incredibly short, only 3-4 pages in length a piece. This would not be an issue if the stories still held a similar amount of substance, but unfortunately for me they all just fell incredibly flat, and I didn’t even get to use my SpOoOky voice more than a few lines at a time.

A fun compilation of stories to read with little ones! Even though the age is a big older my four year old really enjoyed these. These don’t just have to be read around the campfire, but can be enjoyed all year long.

Campfire Stories is a compilation of spooky stories to read around the campfire - or just for the fun of spooking yourself!

The stories are aimed at primary-aged kids, and the balance of scariness was spot on for the audience - not too scary enough to cause nightmares, but enough to give a little fright. Perfect for the spooky season, or to have in the bag or scout or school camps.

My 10yo read this in a morning, and loved the stories!

I have read this book in preparation for Halloween and I cannot wait to read these stories to my daughter and her friends. It is our tradition that on Halloween night after trick-or-treating we read scary stories but this year with Campfire I will be even more prepared. These are stories for kids seven through nine and they have the funny and scary all made into one collection of stories. I can’t recommend this enough if you have little ones who love the best scared and love to laugh this book is perfect. I think Kelly and McClellan did a great job with this collection and now I really cannot wait for Halloween. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

I got this book mainly for my children who are always asking for a story. I thought they were great. My children are in first and third grade and there was something to suit each of their personalities and interests. The balance of slightly scary to scary was perfect. I thought this was the perfect fall book to share with my children. I would love to purchase a physical copy to keep by the fire.

"Tell exciting tales around the campfire—for kids 6 to 9"

So, I have a 9 year old who loves the *idea* of scary and spooky, but gets very scared when it actually happens. So this was the perfect little collection of campfire stories for a kiddo like him! We broke it up over 3 nights and he would get so sad when I'd stop reading for the night.

Bonus - it is written at a level that he can read by himself too! So, I made sure he knew he could read it over and over again!

Our most favorite stories were The Hook & The Stinky Shoes!
