This is my first read by M.M. Chouinard and I can’t believe I waited this long, this book had me engaged from the start. It was an easy ready and addictive read. The main character in this book, detective Jo Fournier was a likeable and down to earth character which I really liked. I wanted to keep on reading to find out how the story would end and how the murders would relate to each other.

What They Saw. What an exciting read. Jo and Arnett are amazing as the pursuit this unknown serial Killer who lyes and waits for their victim. The story is definitely a pager turner. The narrative is simple and descriptive plainly for the readers, which I love. The dialogue is more of a casual conversation, but added with cop language. The suspense is added perfectly to keep the reader guessing who the killer is. The plot is logical for the readers. It’s one that will reach out to any crime reader enthusiast who loves a good crime book. Jo and Arnett work very well together. Neither of the two comes off cold or aloof. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Love the police procedural reading. Lots of action and a page turner. Definitely a wonderful read and would recommend.

I like mystery and detective genre books but this one was a little different. The book was written in dry facts, not enough psychological analysis, not enough drama for me. The story itself was quite interesting investigating a number of murderies related to the same murder trial .

"Don't judge the book by it's cover"... Well in this case you can!!!
I was drawn by the beautiful cover and was intrigued with the author and decide
d to give the Jo Fournier series a go. Yes it's book 6 of the series but you can read this book without needing to have read the series from the beginning although after reading this installment, I am compelled to read the series from the beginning. This is a fast action paced murder mystery with really well developed main characters who are very likable. Really looking forward to the next book of the series....

What They Saw by M.M. Chouinard is another in the police procedural, part of a series featuring Jo Fournier and Bob Arnett, police detectives. Things are in emotional upheaval for Jo: Matt, her boyfriend has moved in and she has claustrophobia. He has done nothing, it is her. Also, Lt Hayes is holding a grudge about a crime Jo solved without consulting her. She feels the woman’s disdain with every move she makes, not to mention, she threatens to bust her to patrol every chance she gets. Her brother-in-law cheated and got another woman pregnant. Her sister needs support, so does her husband. This a frightening murder: a judge, just months from retirement, shot in the head while doing yoga on her own pier. Her eyes covered post-mortem with a blindfold. Was it her ex-husband? Before they even had a chance to get it all processed, a judge was found murdered, not shot, but otherwise the same. They had both been posed. Jo finally figured out the pose was Lady Justice. What did they have in common? The next morning it was the defense attorney. They had the case figured out and were watching the perpetrator, a rapist who had recently been released from prison. His attorney was screaming harassment and suing them all.

Jo was worried. Bob had been on this case, it was when she was on desk duty as she had broken her leg and he had another partner. Being the excellent detectives they are, they figured out who the murderer was but they had no idea how to catch them. Or how they would murder next. Jo still has a life to live, so do some of the others on the team. It is a hard mix, police work and personal life. This author handles it well, giving the reader an insight into the people investigating this murder. Jo and Bob are a good team and Jo, especially, is a very human character. She is easy to like, from a distance, at least. The mystery is a good one, one I would hope is far-fetched. Sometimes the books I read frighten me and this one does. Great story.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of What They Saw by Bookoutre, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Bookoutre #MMChouinard #WhatTheySaw

This is utterly compulsive reading. I am becoming a huge fan of this author, and loved this latest outing with Detective Jo Fournier.
It can easily be read in one sitting, as I did. The drama surrounding the police case Jo investigates is non stop and keeps you guessing throughout.
Chouinard's books are very well researched, and her execution of the plot is just sublime. Loved it.

An assistant district attorney is shot at point blank range while doing yoga. Then a judge is bludgeoned to death in a park. Detective Fournier suspects that the killer is someone with a grudge against the justice system but can she stop them before they strike again?
What They Saw is the 6th police procedural and crime thriller book to feature Detective Jo Fournier and her team.
Members of the justice system are being killed and it seems that there are more targets. Jo and her team need to frantically uncover potential suspects and their motives in order to catch the killer. The book is written most from Jo's perspective but we contrast this with the killer's viewpoint which ramps up the tension as we see their plans and actions.
The death scenes are vivid but not particularly graphic. There is some forensic detail although it is delivered in an objective way. There are plenty of suspects to investigate and all have motive, opportunity or both. Jo begins to fear for members of her own team as she anticipates the next death. The action is quite fast paced as the investigation speeds along and the tension builds.
What They Saw is a great addition to the series and I enjoyed the tense investigation.

So I picked this series up on book five so this is only book two in this series for me but having enjoyed what I read last time I had high hopes for a repeat performance.

This book sees Jo and her team tasked with identifying the murderer who is targeting law enforcement workers connected to a old case where it appears someone is seeking there own kind of justice.

Plenty of suspense, suspicion, doubt, trauma and corruption

To cover the topic of sexual assault is always a challenge particularly considering the low conviction rates amongst victims when it comes down to your words against them, this gives a chilling account of the on going suffering that is faced by such victims and the unjust system that they have to face. Any book that writes to bring attention to the plight of this injustice is worth of five-star in my opinion.

A compelling read

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. This is the sixth book in the Detective Jo Fournier series but all books can be read as standalones.
Jo is such a great character. She is an excellent detective and is extremely determined. This case has a large pool of suspects with very little information to narrow the field. Jo and her partner Bob though are no quitters.
There is a spotlight on the legal system and the injustice of it. Too many criminals go free and the rules are often bent or broken to get a conviction. Sometimes this can leads to the wrong person being convicted.
Chouinard had me on the edge of my seat racing through page after page. It was tense from start to finish and kept me guessing right to the end. I really enjoyed flicking the POV to hear from the killer as well as following Jo and Bob as they try to unravel the case.
Another excellent addition to this series I look forward to many more to come.

This author has the knack of writing thrilling books with strong main characters. As well as the plot itself, I always like getting to know the characters quite well, so that in the course of a series, you find yourself really relating to them. Jo Fournier is a great police officer but she is also a really interesting person away from work. I like her relationship with her work partner, too.

Women are being killed at the rate of one per day, and the race is on to figure out what connects them, in order to find the killer. The fact that all the victims are working in an area of law, in some capacity or another, is disconcerting to say the least. And when Jo figures out that her partner, Bob, is also connected to the women, her heart skips a beat......

Whenever I see that M. M. Chouinard has another book out, it is a no-brainer that I go and read it. You can read this book as a standalone as you like, but why not start at the beginning of the series? Thank me later ;)

4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

An impressive read following on from the other books in M.M. Chouinard's Detective Jo Fournier series.

In this one, What They Saw, Sandra Ashville, an assistant distict attorney is found murdered, blindfolded after being killed. Detective Josette Fournier and her partner-in-crime, Detective Bob Arnett are called to the scene in the town of Oakhurst and are shocked by a second killing just hours later.

I believe What They Saw would work as a self-contained read although you most likely will want to read the other instalments of the series. For me, Jo makes for a near-perfect main character with her inner strengths and vulnerability. Although not without flaws, she shows empathy and Jo's relentlessness and motivation are admirable. Michelle M. Chouinard’s overall style wowed me once again as did the wonderfully thrilling plot. I really appreciate the author's ability to not only draw me into the chilling story immediately but also keep me enthralled until the very last page. For me, this tale has it all - a plot brimming with mystery, suspense with many twists, characters that are real and believable and a mindblowing ending. Michelle M. Chouinard is one of my favourite authors and I can’t wait to see what's next in this magnificent series.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel, at my request, from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

This is my first read of the authors and I am wondering why I waited so long.  While this is number six in the series, I had no trouble jumping in and enjoying this read.  I was gripped from the start and read it in a day.  I like her writing style as it flows off the page.  And that beautiful cover!

I enjoyed the cast of characters, and that the investigation was personal for the main character, Jo Fournier.  I also like when the story involves more than just the detectives on the case and we get to see a little into their personal life since that definitely affects how they do their job.

If you like a fast paced police procedural, you should give this author a read.
