When an ADA is murdered, Detective Jo Fournier becomes the investigator. Although this is book 6 in the series, it can be easily read as a stand alone. I enjoy this compelling series, the plotting is good, the characterisation is believable and it is well written. There is a steady pace throughout and I liked the insight into the character of the killer, as well as the letter to readers at the end. Overall, an insightful and enjoyable read which I would recommend. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Wow! I thought my Kindle was going to ignite because I was tearing through the pages of this book so quickly! I just had to know how this book would end. An ADA is killed in cold blood in her own backyard which definitely stirs up a hornet's nest, but this nest is getting bigger by the second when 24 hours later a judge is brutally slain as well. Detective Jo Fournier and Detective Bob Arnett know the two murders are related because the killer placed a blindfold on each woman after her death. As they investigate and try to puzzle out why the killer would place a blindfold on the victims, it brings up even more questions including possible corruption within the arms of justice. There is a ruthless killer who seems bent on revenge and this killer is checking off a list of people who are due for this killer's own brand of justice. There is abject fear as to who will be next. This book checkmarks all of the great things that a top notch mystery need in order to be interesting - murder, a vicious killer, possible corruption, enough doubt to question every character and who the killer may be, revenge and raw fear of the unknown. M.M. Chouinard is an excellent author who knows how to write a police procedural that is so full of suspense and mystery that you will not be able to sleep until you finish the book. Sleep is overrated anyway! After reading all of the books in this series, I feel as if I know the characters personally. This book and this entire series are addictive. Just when I think she cannot outdo herself, she blazes a new book right into my heart! Find a comfortable spot when you start because you will not get back up until you finish!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When over the course of just a few days 'their own' start showing up dead Detectives Jo Fournier and Bob Arnett have to hurry to make sense of connections the victims had to each other to stop Bob from becoming one of the killer's next victims.
I really like Detective Jo Fournier, she was likeable and a strong but caring female protagonist. Although I haven't read the previous books in the series there are no spoilers about the 5 before this one. But I want to read them and get to 'know' Jo better. I loved the twists and surprises.
There are trigger warnings for SA in this book, but the empathy shown and the changes called for are done in such a sensitive manner. Even Jo shows compassion and understanding.
I learned some shocking and sickening facts about laws, that should definitely be changed. While this is a fiction novel the hard hitting facts are true and Michelle's afterward explains everything so well. I can't say too much as to not give too much away, but I think for the first time I had sympathy for a killer in a book.
Thank you netgalley and bookouture for this arc copy in exchange for my honest opinions.
The author’s deeply focused, elaborate style of writing is mesmerizing. Chouinard has created a memorable female protagonist.
5/5 stars!
This twisty thriller had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish!! I love Jo Fournier - she's smart and funny. Days later and the end still has me thinking about it! I can't recommend this book enough!
Amazing! Shock after shock, twist after twist, I was glued to the pages. Can't wait for next one in this series!
What They Saw should come with a warning : once you start reading you will not be able to stop.
Bodies upon bodies pile up as Jo and her team are scrambling to find out who is murdered the judge and the D.A.
This is personal; these are people they all know and they were brutally murdered.
Twists and turns will have you gasping out loud, keeping the lights on and glaring at anyone who dares to interrupt you
M.M. Chouinard follows up the book with a letter to her readers which is so important to read.
I can't wait for Book 7 in the series and I will be standing first in line.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a nail biting read.
This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Mystery and intrigue…although the story does move slowly at times, it comes to a resounding conclusion. The author is talented and gifted at writing a cannot put down book. The main character is dedicated at her job and discovering what happened was not easy. Red herrings abound. Don’t miss this book…don’t be tricked by the secrets…one line turned me in the right direction…I liked this book.
What They Saw (Detective Jo Fournier Book 6) by M.M. Chouinard is very addicting. I really enjoy reading this series. The writing and storytelling are done so well and hold my interest. I stay up well past my bedtime to read M. M. Chouinard's books. The author hooks you in from page one, and the action doesn't stop until the mind-blowing ending.
ADA Sandra Ashville is murdered. Jo Fournier and her partner Bob Arnett investigate. As more people are murdered, Jo realizes that all the victims are connected to the same murder trial. Jo's partner could be next. I loved all the characters in the book, even Lt. Hayes, who seems to always be giving Jo a hard time.
The dialogue is believable, the characters are well-developed, and the story kept me on my toes in trying to figure out who it was through the murderer's thoughts and dialogue.
What They Saw is a fast-paced, well-written police procedural with good twists and turns.
I would recommend this author and this series.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and M. M. Chouinard for the opportunity to read What They Saw, Jo Fouriner’s Book 6.
This was a fast-paced Police Procedural with unforgettable characters and a riveting ride through twists and turns. It was different from most books of this type in the way it played out. Excellent book. Highly recommended.
This is the first Detective Jo Fournier book I have read and looked forward to starting it. Despite it being part of a series, I did not have any problem jumping right into the story or understanding the character relationships. The book was well-written and well-rounded as there were a couple of sub-plots playing in the background of the main story. Jo has a boyfriend Matt who is moving in with her and I have to say I would love to come home to a man who cooks for me and always has a bottle of wine ready. Lucky gal.
I won't say too much here about the overall plot in order not to create a spoiler, but I also enjoyed Ms Chouinard's explanation at the end about why she wanted to address this particular topic and type of investigation. What I learned there was an eye-opener.
Thank you M.M. Chouinard, NetGalley and Harper for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this book. I recommend it to anyone who loves a good detective tale.
A fast pace ,compelling police procedural that is exciting and tense. This is the sixth book in the Detective Jo Fournier series and I can't wait to see what happened next.
Another fantastic installment in the Jo Fournier series. This one grabs you from the beginning and holds on until the very end.
I can't wait for book 7!

This has been such a thrilling series. I've enjoyed every single one these.
I loved Chouinard! Her writing is quick and sharp!
I felt WTS was a fast paced read. Definitely one of those "I'll only read one more page" and next thing you know it's 12am!

Detective Jo Fournier finds herself in new territory, when her boyfriend moves in with her. As she struggles with self-doubt about whether she can be a good and loving companion, Jo and her partner, Bob, are caught up in a frightening case. Someone is killing people involved in the justice system: a judge, lawyers, etc. The connections between the murders and a recently released criminal care too strong to ignore. When accusations are made about a miscarriage of justice, Jo starts to doubt her partner. It's a great mystery that keeps you guessing.
If you enjoy a compelling police procedural, M.M. Chouinard's What They Saw checks off all the boxes. Chouinard's writing is exciting and tense in the sixth book in the Detective Jo Fournier series.
Synopsis:
After being sent to the scene of a murder, Detective Jo Fournier discovers the victim is someone she knows. As soon as Jo and her team compile a list of suspects, they start crossing them off until only a few remain. Are they on the right track? Can Jo and her partner solve this case before the killer strikes again?
My favorite characters are the main reason I keep returning to this police procedural series. In addition to the protagonist, I also enjoy the supporting cast. Each upcoming installment of the series is eagerly anticipated. Detective Jo Fournier's series is always entertaining, so I recommend it. The feeling is like being at home with family.
What They Saw (Detective Jo Fournier Book 6) by M.M. Chouinard is available November 16th.
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture, for sharing this suspenseful book with me. It is always a joy to read M.M. Chouinard's work.
Wow ,this might be my favorite one of the series , it had me on the edge of my set the entire time I was reading , and wanting to scream yes that the person only to find out that I was completely wrong. The story line, the lies, the secrets, the twist and turns , the who can you trust , they all made this story, so believable that I could see some of it happening even doing this day an edge .
It's quite a momentous day in Detective Jo Fournier's life but, as always, when her phone rings with a new case everything else becomes secondary. Even without seeing the crime scene Jo and partner, Bob Arnett, know this investigation is different, the victim one of their own, callously killed in her own backyard seemingly without reason.
As the prospect of having to go back through years of paperwork stretches before them Jo and Bob are shocked by a second killing just 24 hours later. Now time is of the essence and as their suspect pool shrinks Jo discovers a chilling link between the two victims and someone close to her, who she trusts implicitly; could they also be in danger? With everyone working long hours going back over files and trying to second guess their killer will they make the necessary breakthrough in time or will the next victim be the most distressing so far?
Wow, what can I say? This sixth book in the Detective Josette Fournier series blew me away. It was a page turner from the start and I loved every word. The killings, the reasons for them, and the methods used, added thought-provoking undertones to this brilliant read, and highlighted a surprising legal minefield of inconsistency. At the same time Jo's private and personal affairs showed different sides to her which I enjoyed enormously.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is an excellent addition to a very good series and right up amongst my best reads of the year. Highly recommended.
Dealing with crime every day... That means you have to be a strong person. You have to be able to empathise, but you have to be able to keep your distance too. Getting to emotionally involved can make you miss things that important to solve the case.
When you are called in to investigate a murder and you realise the victim is one of your own, it makes the police team even more determined. Not that they don't do their best every time, but they are only human and you cannot deny the feeling is different when you know the deceased personally.
Immediately a whole array of suspects are presented to Jo and her team and little by little they start to strike them off their list, until one remains. That must be the one who they have to put behind bars, for sure.
Jo, though, feels like things are not adding up. No matter which way she turns all the clues they have, around in her head, there is no doubt they are missing something important. The one million dollar question is: what are they not seeing?
The killer, in the meantime, does not waste time sitting around waiting for Jo. Oh no, they have a whole agenda to work through.
Will Jo and her team catch the murderer before it really escalates?
I was with Jo on this one. It was very clear in which direction all the fingers were pointing, but sometimes it's just too good to be true and you know that one plus one does not equal three. Even I saw there was more to it. ;)
I did understand where the killer was coming from and I loved the way the author explained the traumas someone is forced to deal with. The way she did it touched me deeply. It was devastating. I think it's very clear that a victim remains a victim even after all the physical wounds are healed. It takes a lot more time to heal your mind. It even might never happen.
It took your attacker only a few minutes to leave you behind in the deepest darkest place you did not even know existed.
Ow Detective Jo Fournier, you are one hell of a woman. I admire you. 5 stars
Thank you
This is the type of book which grabs the reader's attention from the very early chapters. I was hooked on the book from chapter 2 and was unable to put the book down... I have read my fair share of thrillers but this will be on my recommended list for a long time. The pace is steady, the plotline is gripping and i was hooked after a few chapters. This is one of those books you can't say too much about as I would spoil it for potential readers. There were times when i was on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put the book down. I highly recommend and I read it in one day!
