Janet Dailey’s seventh book in the New Americana series is Blue Moon Haven. A story of a woman starting over with her best friend’s two children. A man who’s grieving the loss of his daughter and marriage. The disagreement over a tree will have these two coming together to bring back the local drive-in movie theater. Kelly Jenkins is determined to make a go of her situation. Seth Morgan is happy taking care of his pecan farm. These two will find that helping each other just may be the answer they weren’t looking for. Blue Moon Haven takes a couple of people needing to start over and find happiness again. Determination, attraction, and the help of new and old friends can make a business a success. Lives are forever changed when a much-loved drive-on movie theater is brought back to life. Neighbors helping each other move on from their pasts. Janet Dailey’s Blue Moon Haven is part of the New Americana series that shows different parts of the United States. It looks at small town life. Kelly is determined to give the children in her care a better life than she had. Seth isn’t looking for a new relationship or wanting to lose the memories of his deceased daughter. Blue Moon Haven has some romance, moving on from the past but not losing the people you love. Janet Dailey writes a wonderful story set in small-town Alabama as a continuation of the New Americana series. Two people who start out a little against each other but soon become friends, turn to more as they work helping each other. A must for Janet Dailey fans and a great way to become acquainted with a long-standing author who in this reader’s opinion always has a wonderful story in store to read.
Small town, found family and interesting meet cute..
Kelly moves to new state, new town with two kids. She became their guardian when her best friend's husband dropped them off after losing his wife. She needed to find a job quickly and found one renovating a drive-in. When she arrives at the drive-in, it is not what she expected and when grumpy man Seth starts yelling at them. Kelly and Seth definitely had interesting meet cute.
Seth, Kelly and two kids in similar situation where they will need to work together or they may not be able to reopen the drive-in. They are slowly learning to understand each other and form a bond like a family.
It is not spicy at all but it is sweet story. I did enjoy reading it.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensingotn for ARC
i felt like i was reading a book straight out of 1980. saving a drive in theater! it was old-fashioned and uncomfortably conservative. not for me. let this poor woman stay in her grave.
This book was full of emotions. Kelly is taken care of her friends children since their father -struggling with his wife death dropped them off with her. She gets a job at the Blue Moon Haven Drive-in to kick start it again. She has a run in with her neighbor Seth Morgan. Seth is struggling with memories of the past and grief about his wife and daughter. This book deals with grief, loss, and starting over. The book is part of a series but can be read alone. It flowed into a beautiful story. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it.
***I recieved this book as a ARC from netgalley. My thoughts and opinion are my own.
Kelly accepted a position to restore the Blue Moon drive-in movie theater. Her employer, an elderly woman in a nursing home, envisioned the theater's past glory. While attempting to cut down a tree, Kelly encountered Seth, ax in hand. Their initial interactions were rocky, but a deep friendship blossomed, hinting at something more. Amidst challenges, unexpected visitors, and financial hurdles, they persevered together.
This narrative beautifully captures themes of love, grief, and new beginnings. More than just a love story, it celebrates the creation of a family and the unification of a community for a shared purpose. Both Seth and Kelly carry heavy emotional baggage from past losses, making them cautious about new emotional ties.
Two people meet and they each have things in their past that weigh them down. I loved all of the characters in this light romance. It was a great beach read.
Many thanks to Kensington and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This being my first Janet Dailey book, I was unaware that she had passed away in 2013. Initially, I thought this book was a re-issue, but to my surprise, it is not. It appears that her estate has engaged ghostwriters to continue writing in her name while attempting to maintain her distinctive style. I wasn't aware that this was possible, so it came as quite a surprise to me. I have heard of cases where ghostwriters were hired to complete unfinished works by deceased authors, but not to create entirely new ones. If this is a concern for you and you feel it might detract from the authentic Janet Dailey experience, I would recommend sticking to her works published prior to her passing. I wanted to address this point upfront before delving into the rest of my review.
The story revolves around several familiar tropes:
a) a sunshine heroine paired with a grumpy hero
b) the backdrop of a small town
c) the theme of coping with the death of a parent or child
d) a revival of a movie drive-in
Despite these clichés, the book manages to charm readers with its cozy small-town setting. It evokes a similar feeling to that of a Hallmark movie, but with a deeper emotional impact. While the ending may be predictable from a mile away, it is the journey itself that captures your interest. The writing is exceptional, and the plot remains refreshingly uncomplicated. Some may argue that the story feels outdated, reminiscent of books I read back in school, which was around twenty years ago. However, I believe this particular story couldn't be told any other way. It is a tale of loss, hope, and new beginnings, and sometimes, it is precisely this type of narrative that brightens your day. Although everything is resolved a bit too conveniently, I am willing to overlook this aspect due to the superb writing and well-developed characters.
Based on this book, I am genuinely intrigued to explore Janet Dailey's earlier works. Overall, I consider this novel a worthy recipient of four stars.
Blue Moon Haven (The New Americans #7) Janet Daily. 2023. Zebra Books (ARC eBook).
I found Blue Moon Haven to be filled to the brim with engaging characters and heartwarming moments that had me 100% on board for Seth and Kelly’s happily ever after.
What more can I say, Janet Daily is a guaranteed feel good read. Never had anyone come back and say they disliked her work, and this will be no different.
This is a beautiful story of love, loss, and starting over. I would highly recommend it to fans of clean romance and fiction centered around families.
I received a free copy of this book from the publishers via Netgalley. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.
This is a sweetly sexy, heartwarming and emotional journey filled with engaging charters, witty dialog, exciting twists, thrilling passion and lots of small-town heartwarming goodness. A second chance with so much heart and joy and healing laughter.
Kelly Jenkins has lost her best friend and taken her friend’s young children into her care. She’s arrived in Blue Moon to take over the drive-in theater, not realizing the incredible amount of work that will be needed to restore the theater to its former glory.
Kelly meets Seth Morgan when she’s wielding an ax to chop down a tree on the property line. What she doesn’t know initially is that the tree has great sentimental value to Seth. Seth had tried to buy the drive-in property but instead of dwelling on that, he ends up giving Kelly a helping hand.
Seth welcomes Kelly and the children into his home to take haven during a storm and their friendship continues to grow and blossom.
I really enjoyed this novel and would like to read others in the series. Once again Janet Dailey did not disappoint.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for allowing me to read an ARC of this novel. #NetGalley #BlueMoonHaven
Even though this has typical romance themes, I really liked this book. The setting is fantastic. Who wouldn't like a romance over fixing up an old drive-in movie theater.
The characters really got to my heart. Kelley took in her best friend's children after she died and her husband left. The kids rely give you the sense of how they are feeling from being outspoken to not saying anything around strangers. Kelly and the kids take that chance on Mae Bell's drive in to make it home (boy did it start out a mess).
Seth had lost his daughter and got divorced as a result. He really was a turtle in his shell until Kelly helped him start over. He got his grumpiness out of the way fairly quick.
It was nice to see everyone grow from beginning to end. Plus the old folks were a hoot. This book definitely would make for a fun Hallmark movie, especially the setting.
Thank you to Kensington and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
First of all, any story that is associated with the late Janet Dailey is an automatic read for me. She was a legend in the romance world and I have fond memories of reading her Americana series when it was published under Harlequin.
Kelly has taken on the task of renovating a drive-in theater in Blue Moon. One of her first jobs is to remove a tree - which happens to have been a favorite of Seth's late daughter. Seth is resistant to the changes, but eventually Kelly and the children in her care (her late best friend's) win over Seth and he agrees to help out.
This book was sweet and made me sigh.
Blue Moon Haven by Janet Dailey was a good, down home, neighbor helping neighbor love story. There were some tight minutes but nothing that couldn't be resolved. The story line flowed along quietly as Kelly and Seth found a working relationship slowly sliding into a romantic relationship. Add in two children that Kelly was responsible for and the story was almost perfect.
Kelly took a job to save the drive-in movie theater in Blue Moon. Her boss was an older woman who was in a nursing home and wanted the drive-in to be all it could be again. Kelly met Seth with an ax in her hand as she tried to chop down a tree. Despite their first attempts at a relationship, one did grow and both saw the other as a great friend that was slowly sliding into more. Meanwhile, there was work to do, money to find and people showing up out of the blue. Kelly and Seth had to keep pushing forward.
The novel was a good read. Blue Moon Haven was a book that you knew when you started it that all would be well. There were problems that found solutions. There were worries that were unfounded. And there was a sweet love. Blue Moon Haven by Janet Dailey was a sweet romance.
I received a complimentary copy of Blue Moon Haven in exchange for an honest reivew. This was a great feel good story about Kelly unexpectanty parenting her deceased friend's two children and being almost indigent. Kelly moves the children to a new location in the hopes to create a better life and meets Seth. Seth has his own painstaking story to tell which ellicited a lot of emotions. I really enjoyed this story containing a good balance of surprises, challenges, and most importantly a happy ending for all. Job well done. I'd defintely recommend this book to to others. It's worth it.
This is a heartwarming story that is full of hope, second chances and sweet romance. It's a tear jerker in spots and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next.
I received a complimentary copy from Kensington Books, Zebra via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I absolutely loved this book. The perfect balance of conflict and romance. There were also some laugh out loud moments! The character development was spot on. This is a story well worth reading.
A sweet read that has all the elements. A hunky man, and lonely woman with children, this time, not her own, a dog, and a town that is somewhat behind the venture of bringing back the Blue Moon Haven Drive In. Each of the characters is dealing with past and present hardships that when put together make you cry at some points and cheer for them at some points
I received an ARC from NetGalley and leaving a review by my own choice.
This is a Small town Romance, and this is the 7th book in the New Americana series. I have read a couple of the other books in this series, but I think this book can be read as a standalone without any problems. I fell in love with all the characters in this book, and their stories touched my heart so much. I also loved that there were all age characters in this book, and I think that made me feel this book had a more real feeling. This book kept me wanting to keep reading because of everything going on with the characters. There was some hard hitting stuff, funny times, and some cute times. I really loved reading this book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Zebra) or author (Janet Dailey) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
