I really enjoyed reading Witch Way Out. Violet is such a great character and I love how she's grown into using her magical powers. The way everything was wrapped up by the end makes me worry that there won't be any more books in this series. I hope that's not true because it's been a wonderful series. Here's hoping there's a fourth book coming out soon.
I received this book for free for an honest unbiased review from Netgalley.
I wish more books were this well written. Characters were witty and the setting fantastic.
Cate Conte continues her Full Moon fantastic mysteries with Witch Way Out. Violet Mooney has been chosen to have a booth for her crystal shop, the Full Moon, at the spring equinox fair. Violet is having trouble coping with her new witch powers and a power struggle in witch land which targets her family. An entrepreneur she admired and has a meeting with is killed and she discovers the body. Whodunit? Ordinary people or witches? Violet has to find out who to trust and who to find as killer in her new world. Great paranormal mystery.
Witch Way Out is the third book in a witchy cosy mystery. Violet, crystal shop owner, is dragged into a murder when one of her personal heroes is murdered. This was a clever mystery from start to finish and I really enjoyed reading it. I have read a lot of magical cosy mysteries, but this was the first crystal themed one I'd found, which was interesting. I would recommend this for anyone who loves cosy mysteries where the magic isn't the whole focus of the novel, but does play an important part in how the puzzle is solved.
This was a NetGalley review.
A clever, unique, and magical plot. It was a delightful read and I look forward to the next installment.
Many thanks to Kensington and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
So, here’s the deal. Violet Mooney’s coworker, who happens to be a fellow witch, gives her some good news. Their crystals shop, The Full Moon, got chosen as a vendor for the Spring Equinox Fair in Connecticut. This is a big deal for Violet since she’s been trying to learn her magical craft while avoiding any kind of trouble. Which ain’t easy when her family is caught up in a power struggle within the magical realm. It’s got everyone on edge and now Violet’s on a mission.
While she tries to figure things out, she focuses on the Fair. And guess what? The Fair is being organized by one of her personal heroes, Horatio Hale! He’s all about ethical crystal mining and that’s pretty cool. But turns out not everyone feels the same way because shockingly enough, when Violet attends a meeting, she finds Horatio dead with an axe stuck in his chest! Crazy stuff, right? Now Violet has to dig deep and use more than just a crystal ball if she wants to uncover the truth behind all the chaos happening in both the mortal and magical worlds. She’ll need every power she’s honed so far—and even discover some new ones—to save herself.
Alrighty then, let me spill the tea about this book. If you remember my previous review about the second book in this series, you’ll know I couldn’t stand Violet and that seriously impacted my rating. But guess what? In this installment, Violet was a thousand times less annoying! Yay for progress! As a result, I ended up really enjoying this one. The writing was great and kept me engaged from start to finish. The pacing was on point and the world-building was top-notch. Plus, the characters were super likable too. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!!

This is a cute magical mystery. Violet is a witch who’s just discovered her heritage and her powers, which can be unpredictable.
Her crystals shop is selected for the Spring Equinox Fair, so she and her co-owner set up their booth near one of her heroes, Horacio, who believes in ethical crystal sourcing.
Everything is going well until Horacio’s body is discovered. Violet wants to solve the crime, and goes about it with her personal style. 4 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.
Best of boat worlds magic and mystery. We get both is this book! the main Character is a crystal shop owner who happens to be a witch. And through the book we get to be with her and sleuth through the mystery . This is the third book in the series!
The characters and the world building are as well done as usual and the solid mystery kept me guessing. 4 stars!
This was a bit challenging for me as I have not read the first two books of this series. I enjoyed the characters, especially Violet, Syd, Pete and Blake… and the cats. I’m a cat lover. Keeping up with witches, genies, leprechauns, magickal criminals, as well as police and regular folks, seemed to require a playbook, but the basic plot was pretty solid: Violet was running out of time to free her cousin, Mazzy, from a ‘genie bottle’ prison.
There were moments of sheer confusion, but the general storyline was good and overall the results were satisfying. I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley for my honest voluntary review. I would definitely recommend reading this series from the beginning for a better understanding of all the action.
Witch Way Out is part of a cozy mystery series by Cate Conte featuring crystal shop owner and witch, Violet Mooney. Apprentice witch, Violet is taught by or has acquired ability from Violet’s estranged mother, Fiona, a sister she never knew she had named Zoe, and black cat, Xander. Violet learns that her shop is invited to be a vendor at the Spring Equinox Fair and that potentially means great things for her profits. Before she can celebrate a killer strikes at the fair.
I found Witch Way Out to be a spellbinding, well written and enchanting read. Cate Conte's engaging cast of characters made North Harbor, Connecticut, a wonderful place to visit for a while. The narrative was smooth, the dialogue great, and there was just the right of magic and kookiness versus ordinary life. Violet’s two cats, Monty, an orange cat without magical powers, and Xander, who possesses some magical ability, add personality in spades. I was totally invested in the involved mystery. Fun, entertaining and a very satisfying reading escape.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
I like Violet; she has everything a witch should have, spunk, ambition, power issues, and a family that will either drive her crazy or into their arms, depending on the day. Spring Equinox Fair has Violet ecstatic, she will be selling her crystals and joining her hero at the fair, Horatio Hale, but when he is found dead with an axe through his chest she is determined to find his killer. But things aren’t always what they seem, and Horatio is the hero she thought he was. That’s no excuse for murder, however, and Violet has to learn how to use her newfound magickal powers fast if she wants to survive for another day.
The characters in this series are getting better with each new book. Witch Way Out is the best out of the three and helps readers gain a better knowledge of Violet and her family., which was missing previously. The Spring Equinox Fair brings Violet's crystal shop to the forefront of the reader's mind and keeps them focused on what is important. Suspects are varied and include just about anyone who attended the fair, people who had a personal connection to the victim, and even some of those in Violet's small part of the world. The killer, once unmasked, makes perfect sense and helps clear up any lingering questions readers may have.
There are enough twists and turns throughout the story to keep readers happy. There is also enough magic to keep you turning the page. I am envious of Violet's crystal shop, I would love to not just spend time there but to own such a magickal place! The Spring Equinox Fair was a great setting for a murder, and I liked how the author kept the reader engaged with the various types of vendors. I liked the way Violet solves the murder and helps rescue the people who had been genied. I am happy to recommend this book and the series to cozy readers who enjoy magic and mayhem, but if you haven’t read this series from the start, do that first!
Violates crystal shop is featured at an important Spring Equinoxes Fair and she must use her newly found magik to solve a whodunit at said fair. Will Violet be successful at solving the mysterious death at the fair?
I really loved this book in a new to my series and author. I can't wait to read the next one. The characters and location really add to the plot. This book keeps you guessing until the end
I loved this book. I love that Violet is finally coming into her own and being her own hero. I love that she is growing and learning and evolving, like a main character should. Can't wait to see what's next for Violet and the gang!
Third in the series and it does a nice job of making things crystal clear.
I say that because many of the questions are answered but there are still more that could play out in later installments. I would suggest starting with the first book, although Ms. Conte does a very good job of filling you in so you aren’t lost. You will want the backstory for the full effect. Main character, Violet has had a heck of a learning curve over the past year. From having her Mom back in her life, getting a little sister who is essentially grown up, finding out she is a witch from not one but two powerful families, and taking a place on the council. Violet isn’t into the politics and power struggles of the witch world and would prefer to work on the success of her crystals shop, The Full Moon. Success that will surely grow thanks to landing a spot in the Spring Equinox Fair hosted by the crystal guru Horatio Hale, who is found by dead, by Violet. Apparently someone decided to bury the axe, in Horatio. Was this a witchy crime, or a human one? As if Violet didn’t have enough to worry with, there are two genied victims who are running out of time, a deceitful boyfriend working for his deceitful family, a bff who doesn’t know Violet’s secret, council politics, an over protective Mom (well maybe she has a good reason), and mixed signals from the lawyer. Violet’s worlds are once again colliding and she is running out of time. Of course there is always time for coffee from Pete’s shop, the Friendly Bean and a tasty baked good. Great story and excellent red herrings, hopefully this is not the last one for the Full Moon mystery series.
Oops, I thought I had read the previous books in this series, but it was readily apparent that I hadn’t. That being said, I was able to catch up and dive into the wild and wacky world of Violet.
Violet appears to have been going through a bunch of revelations. She now knows she’s a witch, and not just a normal one but one with a seat on the magic council, heir to a glitter throwing mega-witch, and she’s also a small business owner. Oddly, it’s the last one that puts her on the route of a big murder mystery. Are there witchy elements? Sure! But her crystal shop gets selected to participate in a big fair for those types of things, by none other than her hero. Said hero, however, ends up at the center of a big mystery that somehow Violet gets involved in.
Oh, and there’s a bit of a love triangle or two going on in the background of all this, making things extra sticky as Violet tries to separate possible jealous with murderous intent in this mystery. I enjoyed all the characters with their somewhat normal quirks and flaws, and would like to get to know them all more. There’s a bit of a big reveal at the end that we hopefully dig into in further installments.
Fun! I intenbded to read this book during the Halloween season, but it's such a delight, it's beyond a seasonal read. Clever twists and fulfilling flows, it's a great way to spend your reading hours.
This was a fun, witchy cozy. While the mystery took a backseat to the protagonist's storyline, I didn't mind that. I really enjoyed all the storyline weaved throughout this book, and I look forward to the next book.
This almost felt like reading a (fleshed out) episode of Charmed. I didn’t realize going in that this was the third book in the series, but honestly the author did an amazing job at recapping and explaining without it being too unnatural. I did feel like the pacing was off a bit at times, but not enough to loose my attention. I really liked the characters and the setting, I’m excited to go back and read the previous books.
