Big Miranda Rijks fan here! Uber excited to have a new thriller of hers to devour and this time it's the atmospheric setting of the Swiss Alps. Seriously, I was frozen to the bone just reading about it! Luckily it's been somewhat toasty here in Sydney this week so I didn't get frostbite.
Interior designer, Helen Sellers has built a new life for herself and her daughter Emily after the tragic loss of her husband Paul in the Swiss Alps some five years ago. He was a far more proficient skier than Helen, who was only a beginner at the time, and spent his days out on the mountains and coming back to their dingy hotel in the evenings. Then one day, he didn't return. Helen is frantic and calls the police who then deploy a mountain rescue team...all to no avail. The only thing they found was a ski Paul had hired at the top of a sheer drop over the mountainside...the consensus being that he had an accident and tragically fell to his death.
Ironically, the death of a teenage girl on the piste occurred just a couple of days before Paul's disappearance...and he was acting somewhat strangely at the time. Helen had confronted him when his response to the girl's tragic death wasn't normal, and they ended up having a huge row. The next day he disappeared. Are the two incidents connected?
Helen had discovered she was pregnant just prior to these events and expecting Paul to be over the moon, she was shocked to discover he was anything but.
Now five years later, she has moved on and found love again in a wonderful man named Andrew. And Emily adores him and has even asked if she can call him daddy. They plan to marry when the seven years has passed since Paul's disappearance and he can legally be declared dead. It is time to move on and close that chapter of her life.
And then Helen gets a commission to design the interior of a chalet in the Swiss Alps...a place that holds nothing but bad memories for her. Is this a coincidence? Or is fate bringing her back to where it all happened all those years ago? The owner of the chalet, Camilla, is a tyrant who wants everything to be perfect and yesterday. She doesn't want to know of any problems...she just wants the job done. But when Camilla brings the completion date forward a month, Helen finds she needs to stay on site for the duration just to ensure everything is completed on time.
And then Helen sees him...or she thinks she does. It's the limp - from an old rugby injury - she would know that gait anywhere. But when she tries to find him, he's gone. Did she really see him or is her mind playing tricks on her?
Then strange things begin to happen. Like when Emily tells her of "the nice man" who has been speaking to her. What man? And the slate that falls off the roof in a storm, narrowly missing Helen and only injuring her. And calls made to the suppliers cancelling her orders for the interior design job she's been commissioned to do. And that inane sense that someone is watching her. But when Emily announces that a huge teddy bear had been left at the door for her name on, Helen is creeped out. Someone is stalking her and her daughter. But who are they and what do they want?
FORGET ME NOT is a fun-filled thriller that moves at a steady pace with a scenic setting that is so atmospheric the chills could be felt icing up the page. Unfortunately none of the characters were likeable, except Andrew and he didn't have a huge role. I would have liked him to have stayed and played more of a part. We get several POVs as the story unfolds in the timelines of THEN and NOW. When the first twist came, it wasn't a shock. I had been expecting it. But it was still entertaining and utterly compelling...until the end. I found that to be sadly disappointing. All that build up...for what? I fear I cannot say more without spoiling it, but I was dissatisfied with it...on more than one count. Up until then, it had almost been a five star read.
Overall, the story was compelling and the tension palpable. While there was no real mystery throughout, you are still absorbed within the story wanting to know more and find out how it all ends. It was definitely an interesting read, with the setting being the star of it all, though not one of Miranda's best. But still compelling enough to enjoy and be entertained.

I do love Miranda Rijks' books and Forget Me Not is no exception. It is a fast paced, twisty story that kept me gripped throughout and I just loved the ending.
Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for my ARC.
This story was interesting and a bit surprising. Ending was Idea of escaping to a new life for Paul made me feel he was weak and his wife was well rid of him.
Helen is a bit reluctant to take the job decorating a gorgeous chalet in the Swiss Alps. She hasn't returned to the area since her husband vanished on a snowy mountainside. For five years, she's been raising her daughter, rebuilding her life, and waiting for enough time to pass that Paul will be declared dead and she can remarry. It's a dream job, though, and will definitely move her career forward. Maybe her fiancee is right and visiting the mountains in summer won't remind her too much of that awful night .Maybe it's time to put that part of her past behind her. But she doesn't know what really happened during the snowstorm, or what's still happening. And she's about to find out. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The setting and characters and plot all made it easy to get swept up in the book and read it almost straight through.
Forget Me Not by Miranda Rijks
Five years ago, Helen lost her husband. Now she may lose her life.
Five years ago, Helen’s husband Paul went missing while skiing in the Swiss Alps. His body was never found, but he is presumed dead because no-one could have survived a night on that freezing mountainside. It took Helen a long time to get over her loss, but now she has pulled her life back together – she is an acclaimed interior designer in a loving relationship with a new man. Even better, Helen has just been offered her dream project, renovating a luxurious chalet in an idyllic location. There’s only one catch – it’s right next to the resort where Paul went missing. She decides to take the job anyway, convincing herself that a visit to the scene of her great tragedy will actually be good for her, that it will give her a chance to lay old demons to rest. But soon after she arrives, she makes an utterly shocking discovery and finds herself caught up in a nightmarish web of treachery and deceit where nothing is as it seems. Only one thing is certain – the mountains want to claim another body…
A brilliant read. Great story and characters. Twisty. 5*.
I considered abandoning this book several times during the first (veeery slow) half of the story, but the final half was definitely more gripping. No likeable characters but enough suspense to keep the reader going!
Great book loved the story line and the characters were great and I loved the ending!!! can't wait read more from this author
Another fast paced intriguing psychological thriller by one of my go to authors Miranda Rijks. Not really sure what it is about her books but they never failed to grip me and unable to put them down. Once again the book is full of interesting characters and a plot that gets you guessing throughout.
Helen lost her husband five years ago when Paul went missing while skiing in the Swiss Alps. His body was never found, but he is presumed dead because of the treacherous freezing conditions at the time on the mountainside.
Following a period of grieving Helen managed to start to get her life back together , helped by Andrew the new love in her life. Now working as an interior designer she is offered the chance to renovate a luxurious chalet in an idyllic location. A dream job but the problem is the location is very close to where she lost Paul. After a lot of thought and advice from Andrew she decides it is an offer she can’t refuse and it might even help her to face her old demons.
Once on location she very soon uncovers deceit and lies that threaten her life.
A very enjoyable read.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Inkubator for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
This is another fabulous book by Miranda Rijks and might even be my favourite.
It’s quick paced, atmospheric and well written. There were plenty of twists throughout and I was drawn into the characters and plot.
I’d definitely recommend it and it’s worthy of 5 stars!
This book was a mix of a thriller and mystery - a thriller because of the big twist in the middle of the book and a mystery because clues to the overall plot are revealed throughout the story. I liked the two POVs that the story was told through - it was interesting reading about the same event but through two very different individual's POV. The description of the setting in beautiful Switzerland was very well written as well.

I loved this twisty book, set in Switzerland it describes the country very accurately and I could feel the cold and snow as I read this book. It was so cleverly written as the author has you believing one thing and then it hits you with something completely different. A very intense novel and I throughly enjoyed it. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Helen is on vacation with her husband Paul, an avid skier, when he suddenly goes missing. He is presumed dead in a skiing accident. His body has never been found.
Years later Helen has met a new man and wants to be married to him but cannot until Paul can be legally declared dead. When she gets an offer to do the interior designing of a chalet near where her husband dies, she is torn between a great opportunity and returning to a difficult place.
I enjoyed the character of Helen and felt she was portrayed realistically. Some other characters I not like, as I was supposed to.
A twisty story of love, betrayal and so much more. Rijks never disappoints me!
Thanks to netgalley and Inkubator Books for the arc.
Another good thriller from Miranda Rijks. This book switches between 2 timelines at first. Helen discovers she is pregnant on a skiing holiday in Switzerland and is distraught when her husband Paul is less than pleased with the news. Paul then disappears without a trace whilst skiing and is presumed dead, 5 years later Helen has become a successful interior designer and is asked to deck out an exclusive chalet near to where Paul disappeared. Torn by her responsibilities at home, Helen accepts the job and sees someone who looks just like her husband - it can’t be him - can it?
Six years ago, Helen lost her husband. Now, she may lose her life. Five years ago, Helen's husband Paul went missing while skiing in the Swiss Alps. His body was never found, but he is presumed dead because no one could have survived the night on the freezing mountainside.
What I really like about reading a Miranda Rijks book is things are never quite what they seem at first. The chapters are told in the then and now format. Later on in the book, we also get chapters from another character. The pace is fast from the first page. This is a very twisted read. The story is so descriptively written that I could almost feel the chill from the pages. The story is set in Switzerland and England. This is another fantastic read by the author.

I really enjoyed this book. At first, it was hard to get into the story with all of the details. I got into the story halfway through, when more action started taking place. I really enjoyed the place setting. I would love for a sequel on how the marriage went and telling Emily about her father being a murderer. Would definitely read more books by this writer.
Helen and her husband, Paul, are on vacation in the Swiss Alps when he goes missing. Several years later Paul is presumed dead and she has moved on with her life. Helen is hired to decorate a chalet on the same resort where Paul went missing. But is he really dead?
Forget me not is told in alternating viewpoints (Helen and Paul) and switches between past and present.
This book was good but not fantastic. The pacing is quick, the chapters are short, and the book wasn't too long-all pluses in my opinion. The premise was interesting enough, but didn't get my heart pounding the way some other thrillers do. I genuinely felt sorry for Helen but couldn't stand Paul and did not sympathize with him at all. I felt like there were some loose ends that weren't tied up.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Holy crap I enjoyed this book so freakin much! It was chilling, captivating, and kept me on the edge of my seat!
I rate this book at 3.5 stars. The characters felt flat, and I don’t understand why Helen was so observant and surprised of the ability to speak English by everyone she encountered. I did enjoy the descriptions of the scenery and could imagine myself in the locations but some of the descriptions of the different characters caught me off guard as I felt they were boorish.
Another fantastic read from one of my favourite authors. Devoured in one sitting. This author definitely knows how to tell a story and get the readers heart rate up. The tension slowly ramping up and the story unfolding was definitely not what I was expecting. Another edge of your seat read.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
