This was the second book in the Piper and Porter series by Amanda Flower. This can be read as a stand alone as I missed the first one in the series. Darby and Tate must pretend to be a couple while trying to figure out who was sending nasty letters to Dr Madd. Next thing we know there is a murder to solve in this winter wonderland. Will they figure it out in time or become victims themselves? These are a couple of quirky detectives you will really like. Also fall in love with the giant slobbering Tiny. Amanda Flower knows how to write a good cozy which includes may others as well.

Thank you to Hallmark and Netgalley for the ARC. A CEO is murdered on New Year’s while everyone is holed up together in a ski lodge for his big party. What a fun premise! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had no trouble getting into the story. Darby Piper is a very savvy detective and a great choice for the narrator. I loved how, just like any good Hallmark mystery, the story was fun and lighthearted while also incorporating an page turning mystery. Not to mention the great chemistry between Darby and Tate. Frozen Detective is a fast, cozy read for the winter.

It was an ok read, 2.5 stars rounded up!

The plot was quite entertaining, with not much happening, but lovely location and surroundings, which kept me interested.

The reveal was so-so, nothing too shocking, but I was not expecting a huge twist after all.

Thank you for the ARC, NetGalley!

Great cozy mystery! This is the second book in the Piper & Porter series by Amanda Flower. I first read her Amish Candy Shop novels and I loved them!
If you like a good closed door mystery with a slow burn tension, this is for you!
Darby and Tate are PI’s who are invited to a special get away at a ski lodge trying to find out who is sending mysterious letters to the client’s husband. What follows is a mystery that kept me guessing until the end. Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book. My opinions are my own.

Do you remember Remington Steele? TV show from the 80's. Female private eye who hires a man to pose as Mr. Steele since she wasn't respected as a woman P.I. It was a good show. Action, mystery, a little romance, forbidden desire between coworkers, and lots of good sleuthing. That last sentence.... perfectly applies to Frozen Detective. This is the 2nd book in the series but easily a stand alone read. Almost a 5 star read, but I docked it a star because there were some details that didn't line up in the story. (Very few and nothing that hurt the story. Just made me raise and eyebrow and question it.) Quick & captivating read with lots of interesting characters and scenery.

Frozen Detective is also the 2nd book I've read by Amanda Flower. The first book I read by her is a completely different series from quite a few years ago. And I did not like it and did not continue the series. I have shied away from her novels till now. I was certain going in to it I would not like Frozen Detective. I'm pleasantly surprised at how good a story this is. If you're reading this, you've probably read the story description. I won't repeat it. Just remember, "Action, mystery, a little romance, forbidden desire between coworkers, and lots of good sleuthing." And go watch Remington Steele. Try not to make fun of the fashion and hairstyles. I'm sure they'll be trending again in a year or two.

Thank you #NetGalley and #Hallmark Publishing for the DRC version.

"Frozen Detective" by Amanda Flower is a captivating cozy mystery that brings together elements of humor, intrigue, and a fake relationship. In this book, Darby Piper, a seasoned private investigator, and Tate Porter, her new partner at the detective agency, are among the guests invited to spend a week at a luxurious ski villa. The two are going undercover as a romantic couple and were hired by the doctor's much younger wife to investigate anonymous threats against her husband's life. However, their mission quickly takes a turn as they find themselves investigating a murder instead.

The book is full of twists and turns as Darby and Tate dig up buried grudges and try to figure out who the killer is. Darby's ex-boyfriend on the police force thinks they're wasting their time, but the two detectives remain determined to solve the case. The narrative is well-written and keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. The author does a great job of creating complex characters and crafting an interesting story that is both intriguing and funny.

"Frozen Detective" is a true page-turner that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The dynamic between Darby and Tate is both entertaining and suspenseful, as they work together to solve the mystery. Amanda Flower has created a unique and captivating world that fans of cozy mysteries and crime fiction will love. If you're looking for a book that will keep you guessing and leave you with a satisfying conclusion, then "Frozen Detective" is definitely worth a read.

This is the 2nd installment in the Piper and Porter mystery series. Darby Piper and Tate Porter are partners in a detective agency in Herrington NY. Business has been a little slow so when Cecily Madd comes into the agency and hires them to find who is making threats against her husband. Cecily is the wife of Dr. Madd a world famous dermatologist and founder of a skincare company and they are hosting a New Years eve event at a ski lodge outside of town that Cecily happens to own (inherited from her Father) and she has said all the suspects will be there. Darby and Tate go undercover and attend the party as guests and New Years Eve Dr. Madd announces a new spokesperson for the company a disgraced beautiful actress as opposed to his wife Cecily. The next day when Dr. Madd was skiing he was shot with a bow and arrow and killed. Cecily becomes the prime suspect and Tate cannot think that his former flame from High School is responsible. Cecily is spoiled, demanding and refuses to hand over the threats but Darby has already told Austin her ex-boyfriend and detective on the case. Things get real interesting as the rich and famous cannot leave due to the investigation and the hotel manager’s dog Tiny (large St. Bernard) inadvertently plays a key role in the investigation. Enjoyable mystery and I look forward to the next installment in this series.

I received both the audio and ebook versions of this novel. I listened to the audiobook, but am sharing the feedback here as well.
I've read a previous book in this series, so thought it might be interesting to learn the next adventure for Darby and her new partner Tate. A woman who grew up with Tate has asked them to investigate threatening letters sent to her famous dermatologist husband. They're to attend a New Years Eve weekend at a local ski lodge owned by the woman. While there, the doctor is found murdered on the ski slopes. Darby and Tate, along with Darby's ex, Austin, who is now the town's police detective, begin their investigation with a snowstorm approaching. There are several characters who are suspects and some of them are quite remarkable, especially the inn's manager who happens to also have a St. Bernard named Tiny. In fact, I think Tiny is probably the best character in the book!

Overall, it was an interesting story to listen to, but I wouldn't say it was extraordinary. Thank you NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for sending this ebook for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Although I haven't read the earlier books in this series, I truly enjoyed this story and look forward to future installments in the series. This particular story was filled with lots of quirky characters, many of whom had a plausible motive for murder, as well as an unusual setting and winter weather working against our intrepid sleuths.

Thank you to Amanda Flower, Hallmark Publishing and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

It is the end of the year, when the world seems to slow down and the PI jobs seems to have gone cold. For Darby Piper and Tate Porter, background checks pay the bills but they aren’t any sort of exciting. A weekend at the exclusive Garden Peak Lodge and the threat of murder on New Year’s, now that sounds a bit more exciting. The only drawback is the rather rude and uppity female client Tate was friends with back in high school. Of course that was a while ago, and nobody stays the same. Dressed to the nines with champagne flowing and amazing food to snack on (check out the recipe for Goat Cheese Phyllo Puffs located at the end of the book) Darby and Tate get busy posing as a couple while looking for possible threats. Little did they realize that their very own client would look to be guilty, of course the spouse is always first on the suspect list. A weekend for people to pitch their beauty/skin care ideas to Dr. Garret Madd owner of MaddlyCare. So why is he being threatened and who would profit the most from his death? Cecily (do not call her CeCe) was going to be replaced by a younger spokesmodel, but was that all she was being replaced for or was there more. Not everyone was able to pitch their ideas and no all ideas were accepted, could it be an unhappy guest. Then there is the fact that Cecily is looking to sell the lodge, which was bequeathed to her by her late father with the understanding that her half-brother would continue on as ski instructor with a place to live. The job goes from looking for a threatening note writer to looking for a killer and having to share the scene with the cops, or rather with Darby’s ex-boyfriend Austin Caster who seems to have no respect for Darby’s abilities even after she figured out who had caused the death of her past partner, Samantha Porter, Tate’s aunt. There is lots of action, mystery, suspects, misdirects, and plenty of subtle warm fuzzies between Darby and Tate, or rather Tate is trying to be warm and Darby gets a little fuzzy with trust issues (due to being dumped, thrice by Officer Austin) and past relationship regrets (not that she would ever tell Austin that she missed him…sometimes). I am rooting for Tate since Austin just can't seem to appreciate or value Darby's abilities.

I really enjoyed this fun and interesting cozy mystery. The characters, fast-paced storyline, and twisty turns kept me thoroughly entertained. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Many thanks to Hallmark Publishing and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.

I read this mystery, the 2nd in the Piper Poter Mystery series, in a couple hours. It moved quickly, had interesting characters and the mystery itself flowed from one discovery to another. One of the best parts was the interaction of the characters. Funny and logical conversations made the story believable. Is it in my top five favorites this year, no, but it was still any easy fun read. If you're looking for a clean mystery this one was great!

Amanda Flower involves Darby Piper and Tate Porter in a detective case at a ski lodge. The wife of a doctor who owns a prominent face care company engages them to find out who is sending her husband threatening notes. As they settle in at the party at the ski lodge they learn of multiple people who have grievances with the doctor. The he turns up dead with an arrow in his back. Whodunit? I gave Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower 4 stars.

Murder on the ski slopes.
The weapon? A bow and arrow.
The suspects? Every guest at the villa.

A wealthy doctor invites many of his associates to spend a week at a giant, luxurious ski villa. Darby Piper, a seasoned private eye, and Tate Porter, her new partner at the detective agency, are among the guests, going undercover as a romantic couple. They were hired by the doctor’s much-younger wife to investigate anonymous threats against her husband’s life. But before long, Darby and Tate are investigating a murder instead.

-------- REVIEW --------

This is the second book in the Piper and Porter Mystery series. I like the classic Agatha Christie plot with suspects staying together in a place, and you have to figure out whodunit. Throw in a fancy ski resort as a backdrop, fun characters as well as a snow storm on the way, and it makes the perfect read during the cold winter months.

I was given an ARC of this book but also found the audio version on Hoopla, so I decided to listen to it instead of reading it. The narrator is excellent, and I listened to the whole book in one sitting. If you are looking for a quick read during winter, I would recommend this book.

This book comes out December 6.

Thank you Net Galley and Hallmark Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

In Frozen Detective, the second installment of Amanda Flower's Piper and Porter mystery series, Darby Piper and Tate Porter have been hired by their former schoolmate, Cecily Madd, to investigate the threatening letters that Cecily's husband, a dermatologist with his own line of skincare products, has been receiving. To perform the investigation, they are invited to stay at a ski resort that is owned by Cecily and is the setting of a meeting between a number of individuals who have been invited to make proposals regarding new products for the skincare line. The investigation takes a macabre turn when Dr. Madd is discovered dead on the ski slope the morning after everyone has arrived at the resort after having been shot by an arrow from a crossbow.

In this book, the author has created a group of characters that each have a reason to want the victim dead and through very creative storytelling keeps the reader involved. Within this story, there are multiple unrelated plots that each end with a few surprising revelations and more than one culprit being identified with the various situations presented within the story. I enjoy all of this author's works and look forward to the future adventures of the characters within this series.

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was my first read in the Piper and Porter mystery series by Amanda Flower though it is the second in the series. It was easy to jump right into the story and not feel like you missed a lot by not reading the first. Flower did a great job with the setting of the ski resort, making you feel like you were there. I struggled though with the character development and thought Piper and Porter needed more. I did enjoy the mystery overall and it was the perfect cozy for an after Christmas read!

Two Girls Detective Agency is run by Darby Piper, a seasoned private eye, and her new business partner, Tate Porter. They are at a villa in a ski resort for New Year's Eve, asked by a dermatologist's wife, called Cece as threats have been made to her husband's life. Then someone dies... Amanda Flower has successsfully combined a twisting plot with interesting characters and settings. Very highly recommended and well worth a look if cozy mysteries are your jam.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Hallmark Publishing via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

It's almost New Years Eve and business is slow for the private detective agency of Piper and Porter. Darby is asked by her friend Cecily to go undercover (with her partner, Tate Porter) to try to figure out who is threatening Cecily's very successful husband, a dermatologist. The location of the posh New Years event is a large ski resort Cecily inherited from her father. The location makes for a fantastic locked room mystery with a suspect list that includes the entire guest list - except, of course, Piper and Porter. It's a satisfying mystery start to finish and I enjoyed every page.
My thanks to the publisher Hallmark and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
