Beware the matchmaking mamas!
Drew is as arrogant and condescending as an heir to the throne could ever be, so I was expecting a bit of a redemption arc for him to be worthy of our entrepreneuring and intrepid heroine, Agnes. Of course he feels the weight of responsibility, and I guess he can't help being a bit of an elitist, but I soon tired of his constant rudeness to her all because he doesn't want her to get her hopes up that he'll ever seriously consider her a match. All I could think is that it's a good thing Agnes has her own set of balls because one of them certainly should.
Despite Drew's faults, I did enjoy this story, mostly because I loved Agnes and cheered for her every step. She might be just as attracted to him as he is to her, but she's not about to let that interfere with her plans to start her own business after she acquires the necessary experience and connections through her employment for the royal family. She almost makes it all the way to the end of the book without kowtowing to Drew's ambivalence. Thankfully, she doesn't give in until he's ready to confront his issues and their HEA is finally secured.
I loved the chapters that focused on the mothers' POV, especially Queen Charlotte and her over-the-top machinations. She's only got one unattached child left, and God help Sophie once her mother decides who she should be with!
Agnes is the perfect candidate to follow in Charlotte's footsteps; it's just too bad Drew isn't more like his own father. Still, I'm addicted to this series so there's no way I was going to miss this installment. And to the author's note that Mrs. Roper is her spirit animal, all I can say is me, too.
If you haven't read any of this series, start now and be prepared to binge read your way through them all. It's a charming series with genuine feelings and (mostly) terrific characters. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
The writing style was not my favorite and I found it hard to get into the book. I really liked the premise of the book and wish I could have gotten into it
BEST OF SERIES! All I want to do is gush about this book, but I will refrain because anyone who loves a happily ever after must read this book (I don’t want to give anything away)! Agnes and Prince Andrew are two forces to be reckoned with, making for an extremely entertaining journey to their HEA. The secondary characters in this book made my heart melt (and some made my blood boil). Queen Charlotte truly needs a matchmaker business because her instincts are nothing short of perfection. I cannot wait for Princess Sophie’s and Arlo’s story- and I really really want a novella for Ollie! 🥰
