A wonderful book for beginners. Very accessible yet detailed, I learned such a lot. The author's passion for the topic is abundant.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
The Beginners Guide to Crystal Healing is an informative, useful and easy to follow guide perfect for beginners learning all about how to use crystals. The book is divided into three main parts: Discovering what crystals are and how to use them, ways to implement crystals and skills into your daily life and finally a sourcebook of stones and their properties. This is one of the best and easiest books I've come across about crystals so far and highly recommend this one to anyone starting out or refreshing themselves on the use of crystals. I'd love to see a follow on bookish more information spinning on from this as this is the basics.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A great book about crystals written especially for beginners.
Good book to help you learn about crystals. Easy to read. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book in return for my honest opinion. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on the review.
A great introduction to crystal healing. I found this book really helpful. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
It's a nicely laid-out book. The images are pretty, and the information is given clearly. But I gave up early on as I just couldn't find the urge to keep on reading. I felt less beginners guide and more idiots guide, sorry.
First, let me begin by saying I love crystals and stones. I have them placed all over my house, and every year, my husband and I travel to a gem & mineral show that's held around the same time as my birthday so I can add to my collection. So when I say I've read a lot of books on crystals and how they can be used for healing, wellness, and magic, I mean I've truly read a lot of books.
Now, with that said, I can honestly tell you that Leavy's The Beginner's Guide to Crystal Healing is one of the best I've come across in recent years. The book is written in a plain manner that is both engaging and informative. Leavy takes the time in the beginning of the book to explain what crystals are, how they naturally form, how they've been used over time for everything from healing to magic to simple decor.
The book is divided into three main sections dealing with the basics, crystal healing, and a crystal sourcebook that's further broken down into three subsections dealing with crystals for emotional healing, crystals for spiritual healing, and crystals for shielding and protection. I really like this layout for the sourcebook because while most books list stone and crystals in alphabetical order like an encyclopedia it can often been hard to find the right information in a hurry. If you're an energy worker, such as a Reiki practitioner or empath, then you know there are times when you need critical information at your fingertips. Although the sourcebook provided here is not exhaustive, it does cover many of the most commonly used crystals used in healing.
In addition to an easily searched sourcebook, "The Basics" of crystals are discussed with topics such as the history of crystal healing, ways of using healing crystals, sensing energies and selecting crystals, as well as how to properly cleanse and maintain your crystals. I especially like Leavy's suggestion to begin a crystal healing journal. This is a fabulous idea for someone who is just starting out because it allows you to see how your relationship with crystals grows over time, what works for you, what doesn't work, and how you're progressing. Leavy also addresses shapes and colors for crystals and how these can affect the energy. This isn't a topic I've personally seen covered in too many books and found it to be a welcomed addition here.
The section for crystal healing includes topics on how to get started, incorporating crystals into your personal and sacred spaces, and combining crystals with positive affirmations as well as exercises for including crystals in meditation. The exercises are simple and yet so effective for helping to open the senses to working with crystal energies. Again, this is an often overlooked topic in some books and an overly complicated one in others. I appreciate Leavy's deft touch at balancing between information, effectiveness, and ease.
Overall, The Beginner's Guide to Crystal Healing is a great source book for anyone who is interested in learning the basics of crystal healing. Even seasoned energy workers will find helpful information and exercises to enhance their relationship with crystals.
I found this book to be a great starter/entry point to working with crystals. It's very easy to read and you can be used as a reference point in future as the crystals are examined in detail in the latter part of the book.
I do think if you're not used to the concept of using crystals, then the author's viewpoint about them containing spirits etc. might seem a bit out there, but all in all I enjoyed the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.
Great book and introduction on crystals! I am a regular listener to the authors podcasts and this makes a great companion. It’s a very useful reference to have on hand for learning the uses for crystals.
This book feels very much like a mass produced trade paperback. It is well designed with attractive layouts similar to a textbook and lots of stock photos of crystals, beautiful people meditating surrounded by flower petals, chakra diagrams and the like. It’s long and has lots of information on using crystals in vague magical ways. The second half is a long section of profiles of many rare crystals and how to use them with a double page spread for each.
I should say that while I have a very open mind when it comes to how crystals can be helpful, my belief system doesn’t match the author’s in believing small spirits possess crystals or that you should put some types in your garden to attract fairies. This might have been a better fit for me if I had her beliefs but it also just felt sort of generic and like one of those anonymous web pages where it feels like every one of them copied each other. It lacks any sort of personal connection to the crystals or to the reader.
I also would have liked more practical information like which crystals you’re supposed to keep out of the sun and how to source crystals that have been ethically obtained.
All in all it’s three stars for me — liked it but not one I’d personally purchase on the subject. I think others may really like it though, so do take a look inside and see if it’s what you’ve been looking for.
I read a temporary digital arc of this book via NetGalley.
5 star book. Was jam packed of information that helped me out alot. Read it from netgalley. Highly recommend this book. Might save it for a reference book for my writing if I have a character that works with crystals but this is an amazing book to read
I enjoyed this excellent easy-to-use beginners guide to learning about crystals. Beautiful illustrations make it easy to see the variations in crystals and the directory explains the properties of each crystal. Recommended.
I've always been interested in crystal healing. I've gone through a lot in the last 4 years after being diagnosed with breast cancer. I wanted to look into other ways of healing. This book really worked to increase my insight into crystals and how they can heal. Ashley did a great job with this book. Highly recommend!
Healing With Crystals
In this book, Ashley Leavy highlights the most important and useful attributes of crystals, and shares simple yet effective techniques for utilizing their healing properties in your everyday life. She organizes this book into three sections:
1. Section One - Discusses what crystals are, how they work, and some of the most common ways to use them.
2. Section Two - Discusses how to learn new ways to implement your crystal healing skills into your daily routine.
3. Section Three - Discusses stones and their properties, and it is divided into three sections: Emotional Healing, Spiritual Healing and Guidance, and Shielding and Protection.
In Section One, the author provides some background information stating that based on principles of both physics and metaphysics, crystal healing promotes positive change in the human energy field, it is in this section, you will learn something of the history of crystal healing, as well as how crystals can deepen and enhance your connection to your stones. You will also be given an overview of practical ways to select and use your crystals so that you can start to integrate them into your everyday life.
It is, also, in this section that the author explains what crystals are, how they are formed, and how different crystals may be used. She also discusses how a crystal's color may influence your energy, the importance of listening to your inner guidance, choosing stones by their properties, and tuning into the crystal's energy.
In Section Two, the author discusses how to use crystals in your day-to-day life. She suggests creating a Crystal Journal to record your affirmations. I found this section very beneficial, whereas, she discusses and provides a diagram of aligning the chakras with the use of crystals that are
chosen for each chakra center based on their associated
color.
In Section Three, the author provides a sourcebook, which will show you which crystals to use for emotional healing and balance, spiritual healing and guidance, and shielding and protection from negativity. She states that using stones from these three important areas will help bring balance and healing to your body, mind, and spirit.
She states that the crystals in the sourcebook each display a list of correspondences including the following:
1. Appearance/color
2. Current availability
3. Physiological correspondences
4. Psychological correspondences
5. Associated crystals by color
6. Keywords
The author states that the sourcebook descriptions also include a bit about the stone’s geology and location, history and legend, and a detailed section on exactly how you can put the stone to good use right away.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Many thanks to the author. It is full of much appreciated information and the design, layout, and vivid, bright colors are amazing. All the crystals and stones are so beautiful and colorful. This is one of the best book I've read with the crystals and stones so richly displayed. I highly recommend for anyone's library.
The Beginner's Guide to Crystal Healing is a colourful and in depth guide to selected crystals and how they can be used for healing purposes. Crystal basics and how to select, cleanse and dedicate them are included. There is a section on affirmations, chakra balancing, and crystal meditations.
