This is an interesting reference book; heavier on astrology than I had thought but useful for anyone delving into the moon!

Great introductory work on how to use moon energy! Great for the metaphysical section, will definitely be getting a copy for our growing collection.

It's a beautifully laid out book all the information is clearly set out. I really like the use of calming colours to edge the pages. There were parts of it that I was keen on (like aliens in a book on moon energy) and the occasional conspiracy theory-sounding part that felt out of place. The illustrations were pretty though and I liked that she explained the different moon phases.

There are many books on the market that deal with the subject of drawing on the moon for energy, inspiration, and magic. So what makes Simone Butler's any different from all these others? Simply, the book is concise, easy to read, and doesn't overly complicate the subject matter nor does it attempt to shoehorn the subject into a specific spiritual path. Butler approaches moon energy from an astrological standpoint and keeps things simple so that anyone--beginner, intermediate, or experienced--can incorporate her information into their path, whatever it may be.

Special terms and concepts are highlighted in the text in call-out boxes that give more detail where it's needed. Butler's explanation of terms like "Super Moon," "Blood Moon," and the differences between lunar and solar eclipses are detailed and yet easily understood. She offers simple rituals and exercises to tune into lunar energies and how these may be used to enhance daily life. The fact that she's able to do all this without referring to an overarching path and stick to an astrological basis is undoubtedly the most helpful aspect of the book.

The reader is prompted to visit two separate websites to learn their own moon sign and moon phase at the time of their birth. (I found this really helpful as I was able to determine my moon sign to be Capricorn with a moon phase of waxing crescent. Something I didn't know until I read this book.) Once the reader has determined both, the book is divided into individual moon signs and each has helpful information such as lunar superpower, lunar shadow, sexual nature, karmic path, and moon qualities. I especially enjoyed reading about the moon women, or ancient goddesses, associated with each moon sign. Also included with the goddess information is sections about animals sacred to that goddess, how to set up an altar, and both full and new moon rituals. Activities and inspiration round out the individual moon signs.

Overall, Moon Energy for Beginners is a great resource for anyone interested in astrology, lunar goddesses, and working with moon energy. It certainly has found a home on my bookshelf.

All you moonlovers, this is one to add to your lunar library. It’s like having a pen-pal on the other side of the world sharing with you her journey with the moon and ways to reconnect with your inner goddess in tune with your personal moon. Those who love to read and learn more about astrology, this is one to add to your Xmas wishlist as it would explain a lot about your personal moon in your birthchart.

There is a ton of information in this book about the moon. The author discusses the moon and its relationship with the sun, a brief history of moon worship in different cultures, and then goes in depth into the different astrological moon signs. There are a lot of interesting rituals to try in each of the moon signs and I enjoyed finding my sign and learning its rituals.

Great Information

The author discusses the moon and our relationship with it, and states that based on where the Moon was located on the day you were born, our Moon sign shows our emotional nature and what makes us feel secure. She, also, states that it reveals the wisdom you’ve accumulated in previous lives—and where you can get stuck in ruts.

The author states that times have changed, and it’s essential to flow with those changes, and that why she's big on readers' creating their own traditions, taking the best of the old and adding what works for you. Furthermore, she adds that where ritual is concerned, something simple and heart-felt is better than an impressive ceremony that doesn’t really touch your soul.

Throughout these chapters, the author offers suggestions for altars one can create for each Moon sign that can be left up for the month at hand—or longer if one choose. She states that altars are the heart of magical work and is a collection of meaningful elements put together in pleasing ways, infused with your emotions and intention. Whenever you mindfully select an alter’s objects and lovingly and intentionally put them together, the altar becomes imprinted with the feeling of what you’re trying to create, whether it’s greater courage, prosperity, a new relationship, or whatever else you need. She states that each time you use your altar, you affect the world around you through the power of suggestion, and that you can do the rituals in the following chapters at the New and Full Moons, or whenever you desire.

For example, if the Taurus Full Moon ritual sounds appealing, look up when that Full Moon falls and wait for it, or do it sooner, ideally when the Moon is in Taurus. This is especially effective if Taurus is your personal Moon sign.

The author emphasizes that doing rituals on the day the Moon is in your Moon sign will generates extra-powerful magic. She, further, explains that to increase something (such as love or money), you should perform your ritual when the Moon is waxing (New Moon to the peak of the Full Moon). Waning Moons (after the Full Moon’s peak until just before it’s New) are for banishing things, such as excess weight or unwanted suitors.

Below she outlines information on how to perform effective rituals:
1. Get clear on your intention.
2. Set up an altar that re ects your intent, if you choose.
3. Approach the Goddess reverently and ask for her help. She needs an invitation to enter your life!
4. Affirm the highest and best outcome for all concerned.
5. Remain confident that the ritual will work.
6. Keep your focus steady until you’ve completed the ritual.
7. Express gratitude.
8. Stay open to intuitive promptings.

You may need patience to find your footing with performing rituals. It might feel uncomfortable or scary at first, especially if you had a strict religious upbringing. Your rusty priestess instincts may need a little oiling to function smoothly. Joining with like-minded sisters will help. Women are strongest in the collective, when we bond and share with one another.

And ritual is a prime way to do that. Why not join or start a circle of women devoted to the Goddess? Or, you could host a New Moon or Full Moon party with your female friends. Some Full Moon rituals are geared toward communal participation. You could also take turns hosting and honoring different Goddesses. For each event, a different person researches a Goddess of her choosing. She then creates a ritual and craft activity to share. Once you get in the habit of doing ritual, whether alone or in a group, your connection to the Goddess will come alive—and so will your life! May you reunite with your inner Goddess in ways that deeply satisfy your soul!

The author states that on the day of one's birth, the Moon was moving through a specific part of the heavens. Knowing its location on that date unlocks the secret code to our primal nature and gifts. Simone Butler discusses the moon phases in great length, also providing rituals for each moon phase.

Simone Butler has provided a great of valuable information on moon energy from an astrologers viewpoint that is very help for a beginner. Really love this book.

This book is incredibly in depth. It feels like an encyclopedia in its style.
It has tons of information, and it feels very serious. It's not playful, and colourful like other books I have read on this topic - it feels very in depth and very specific.
I wouldn't want to read this book in one shot, I would want to dip in and out of it because its very wordy, and can be a bit overwhelming at times. The information in this book has everything a beginner would need, but the style and layout wouldn't be the best for a beginner i feel.

While this book wasn’t what i was expecting it was still something I had been looking for. I was expecting this book to focus more on moon phases but it was about astrology and how the moon phases tie in with it. Which I still enjoyed. This was a very informative read and it was fun finding which one fit for me.
