unfortunately i did not have enough time to read this book in its entirety but it seemed like a good read.
This book provides helpful strategies to get focused and motivated to complete the things you want. It can be difficult to actually follow through on tasks and this book helps break things down into more manageable sizes. This allows you to stay motivated and actually achieve the goals you set for yourself.
This was an informative read that I would recommend to those who struggle to achieve tasks.
I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly, this was way more useful for me than I thought it would be. I’ve read a fair share of self-books and thought this would be somewhat similar, but I feel like it gave a fresh take on what it means to have executive functioning issues/challenges and how to realistically manage them. I can see this being a workbook that I keep going back to.
This workbook is very thorough. It really made me stop and process intentionally. I loved how they highlight, at the beginning of the book, how you can get the most out of the ebook experience! I feel like this is a workbook I will continually come back to.
3.49* - Three stars for me because of one major bugbear - SMART* goals, especially presenting them so early in the book without breaking down each of the elements into doable chunks. When you're someone who has difficulty with executive functioning, it's at best laughable to suggest setting SMART goals and at worst, harmful and demoralizing!!!
So with that out of the way, there in fact are some very good exercises in here and some great questions that helped me look at various issues in a new/different way. I will definitely keep coming back to them!!
I think it's important to know which 9 facets/functions the book focuses on...
attention and focus, organization, task initiation, planning and prioritization, self-monitoring, working memory, flexible thinking, emotional control, and impulse control. I like that the focus is on executive functioning and not just ADD/ADHD, but I do wonder just how well this term is known outside coginitve science or the ADD community.
This would be a great tool to use in therapy or perhaps even with a trusted friend or family member, if you feel safe doing that.
I personally preferred [book:The Mindfulness Workbook for ADHD: Effective Strategies to Increase Focus, Build Patience, and Find Balance|62971491] over this one, but I think that depends on who you are, your "why"/what you are trying to get out of the workbook. If you are feeling anxious and frustrated, I would definitely recommend the Mindfulness one over this, especially if you're curious about meditation but have always thought you couldn't/wouldn't be able to do it. However, if you are starting to feel at peace with who you are, yet keep getting stuck or just feel unable to move forward, you might prefer this one!
Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for access to a digital ARC of this book. Now I'm off to burn that page about SMART goals - ;)

The executive functioning workbook for adults, is a valuable resource for adults that experience difficulties with executive functioning skills. The Executive Functioning Workbook for Adults is an evidence based, easy to implement workbook written to assist adults with improving these skills. Executive functioning skills are vital for success at home and in the workplace. The first part of this valuable resource explains the concepts underpinning executive functioning skills. Not only will it be revealed what exactly executive functioning skills include, but you will also understand the necessity of self-monitoring and how to set personal goals for improvement. The second part of the book describes the many components of executive functioning skills including: attention, focus, organization, task initiation, planning, self-monitoring, working memory, flexible thinking, impulse control, and emotional control. That is an individual chapter for each of the aforementioned skills. Each chapter focuses on a specific skill, with explanation of the skill, real-life vignettes, and practice exercises to allow understanding and skill implementation. I recommend this to anyone looking to improve any of these skills. Thank you the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is a helpful workbook with thoughtful assessments and a host of easily implemented strategies to assist in improving focus and concentration.
This workbook is full of really helpful and useful information. It also has a lot of different examples and personal stories from people who also have executive functioning issues/challenges. This is a solid workbook, and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to returning to this book over time and redoing some of the exercises.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital ARC of this workbook.
This was more helpful than I thought it would be. It was definitely easy for someone like me to get through, and I feel it will be helpful for others who struggle as well.
I thought that this book was an incredible resource for those of us trying to better our lives when struggling with executive dysfunction. My only qualm… as someone who severely struggles with motivation and self-drive, it was a bit hard to get through. I had a few moments of “yes, I can see how this would be helpful… but I just don’t want to or have other things to do.” Otherwise, this book was filled with great examples of tasks for an individual with executive function issues to help create a determined schedule and find new ways to stay motivated, organized, and over all more together!
Executive functioning is an essential skill for productivity and one that is too often neglected. The Executive Functioning Workbook for Adults is a valuable resource for anyone looking to improve their organization, planning, and focus. This workbook offers in-depth information on executive functioning, self-assessments, tips for breaking bad habits, and worksheets to help you stay on track. It also provides step-by-step guidance on how to improve nine essential skills to executive functioning outlining attention and focus, organization, task initiation, planning and prioritization, self-monitoring, working memory, flexible thinking, emotional control, and impulse control. Essential reading for those looking to improve this valuable skill.
For people like myself, finding easy to read and practical self help books can be a challenge. I loved how well organized this book is. The information was very helpful and I plan on purchasing a copy.
This is pretty much as the title would suggest. It doesn't have to be read straight through and you can skip around to work on different things as needed/desired. I preferred to read through as written and consider the different questions if applicable currently. Some of the suggestions were good ones for me personally, and I feel like I got some insight into my current functioning versus what I think would be ideal for me and possibly ways to work towards that. I didn't actually do any of the writing activities since I don't think the workbook format is ideal for me. 3.5 rounded to 4 stars.
This is a very helpful resource for anyone struggling with executive function issues or is trying to help a child with theirs. I was very impressed with the interactive features of the digital edition. Each chapter has key takeaways at the end, so if you need a quick refresher during a flare up, the strategies are easily accessible. The chapter on impulse control is especially good.
I am quite thankful I stumbled upon this week. It has been extremely helpful in so many aspects of life. Professional development, parenting, frustrating scenarios, traffic, marriage, family dynamics.... to name just a few. I felt as though it was organized well and flowed easily. I enjoyed the self assessments. I never thought of myself as anyone who struggled specifically but I easily found areas that I could improve. I'm very excited for the takeaways from this book and having the ability for self improvement.
This book focuses on nine essential executive functioning skills -- attention and focus, organization, task initiation, planning and prioritization, self-monitoring, working memory, flexible thinking, emotional control, and impulse control. Each section provides an introduction to the skill, a short case study explaining how action can improve and address issues in this area, groups of reflective questions to assess one's skills/struggles in these areas, suggested exercises and interventions to help practice and develop these skills, and more reflections.
I liked the organization of these skills which allow you to focus on areas of need. In some areas, I felt like there wasn't a lot of new information for me, especially around planning and goal setting, but it did provide a lot of small tips and tidbits that were useful. I like that it paired these practical suggestions with self-reflection to help assess and connect with one's own life.
This provided a lot of great strategies of exploring executive function though I wish it had just a bit more depth of content. Overall a great resource though!
A great place to start healing and improving yourself, direction and actionable advice that works well in the real-world.
I haven't really 'used' this so far, just read through it but I can already tell it's going to be very useful to me as an adult with ADHD who struggles a lot with executive functioning. I have this downloaded and ready to use when I need it, definitely recommend.
As Executive `Functioning is one of my favorite fields to dive into as a parent I am super excited with a healthy impulse control :-) about this workbook. I would recommend every company to add a copy to their Xmas baskets. It’s been interesting to read, clarifying doing the exercises and definitely one to have in your library to check in on a regularly base.
Thank you Callisto Media and Netgalley for the arc!
Do you struggle with organization and controlling your emotions?
This workbook can help you!
Like all of the books that Callisto Media recently released about mental health, the layout is wonderful.
It’s really easy to read and it’s full of quizzes to better understand yourself.
Inside you will find affirmations, checklist and questions that can spark your mindfulness.
Personally, flexible thinking and emotional control are some things i really need to improve on and I found some perfect strategies to do that!
There is a meditation section to help you tune in with your brain and rankings for the tips and tricks they suggest, so it’s easy to understand what works better for you!
I really want to point out this part because mental health and therapy don’t have a one size fit all and the book perfectly adapts to this.
