This has been a life-changing read for my healing journey. The chapters are short and concise, containing the perfect amount of information that is balanced with the exercises. I found myself going back and forth between chapters depending on what I needed. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to embark on this journey. It's very accessible and interactive.
Somatic therapy is a body-oriented approach that is aimed to adress trauma and stress-related disorders. More specifially it looks at the connection between body and mind and how our body expresses itself. This book gives accessible informations and exercises introducing you into this concept.
As a nutrition practitioner, I see so many people whose bodies are holding on to trauma. Somatic therapy is a great way to release some of the trauma and help your body get into a parasympathetic state. Everyone can benefit from this book.

I saw that Somatic Therapy for Healing Trauma: Effective Tools to Strengthen the Mind-Body Connection was helpful in dealing with my past trauma. I recommend it for others, as well. Five stars.
This is absolutely fantastic! The way this book guides people through the process of reconnecting with the body after trauma is great! There's really good information and exercises contained in this book.
This is a great addition to similar body work type books. I feel the activities and recommendations suggested are doable and can incorporate over time to see the best results.
ARC NETGALLEY REVIEW
If this type of therapy interests you, this is an amazing book to start with. The author did their due diligence with this workbook. Something I would definitely recommend my yoga clients that want to heal trauma and need a starting point to work on their own.
Pleasingly short and to the point, Somatic Therapy for Healing Trauma is packed full of helpful, accessible exercises for those in need. The layout of the book is pleasing and efficient; the exercises are varied and bitesize; and there is a brief but detailed explanation of the work beforehand. You could work through the exercises one by one, or pick and choose ones that appeal to you most at the time. I am so excited to apply these ideas to my recovery work, because I had only come across one or two of them before now. I am grateful to NetGalley for providing an ARC in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the focus on the body this book provides. It feels like a whole host of ways to relating to your body that can be a great addition to ones toolkit when trying to heal from trauma. I think that the activities within it are very approachable and with time, readers will find some are very useful additions to their everyday lives.
Jordan Dann's book "Somatic Therapy for Healing Trauma" is a great resource for those looking to heal from trauma using somatic therapy. This type of therapy focuses on the connection between the mind and body and helps to release emotional and physical stress that may be stored in the body. The book provides information on what somatic therapy is, how it works, and the key techniques used. It also includes writing prompts, bodywork, and breathing exercises to help regulate the nervous system and bring the mind and body into balance. Overall, somatic therapy can help you feel calmer, happier, and more grounded and this book will help show you how.
I've been wanting to learn about Somatic Therapy for sometime but all of the information felt a bit overwhelming. This book was a great way to get a good understanding of the process. It explains what it is and most importantly it shares all the tools that can be used- the most important part.
A helpful way for me to start learning.
Thank you NetGalley and Rockridge Press for the ARC!
This book provided so much useful information that I can utilize when working with clients. I work a lot with trauma and EMDR so we discuss Somatic feelings a lot. Great reference.
This book has a ton of exercises to help work through trauma. Reading is not enough schedule time to do the exercises. I had major anxiety and made some really good progress with cognitive approaches and exposure. I didn't and haven't got passed everything yet. My experience as I am discovering originated in body sensations and made worse by scary cognitions trying to find explanations for the strange sensations. The body sensations are much reduced but still there. Focusing on the body was a piece I missed. If I was starting from square one I would devote some time between cognitive approaches and somatic like those found in this book. If you have similar experiences the body is the fire and cognitions are extra fuel. Work with both to heal yourself more completely and go at a pace that works for you. You can transform but it takes some time. The good news is you will notice that you feel better along the way!
Somatic Therapy for Healing Trauma: Effective Tools to Strengthen the Mind-Body Connection is a practical workbook to find inner peace and recover from trauma. There are lots of practical exercises and spaces in the book for you to fill in as you work through them. It is a good introduction to the mind body connection but I think you need more support and information around the exercises to get the most out of them. It is definitely a brilliant starting point though and if it resonates with you, you can look into it further. It definitely opened my eyes and I was impressed with the variety of exercises. Overall a super starter book.
I requested this ARC because somatic therapy is a term I've been introduced through conversations with my current therapist. This workbook was a good overview of the terminology and methodology of somatic therapy. There were points at which I personally wanted more detail about the concepts behind somatic therapy, but I realize this workbook is meant to be more of a crash course. The exercises in the book were varied and well thought out, but I"m not sure if I got a lot out of them doing them on my own. My experiences with somatic therapies have been more resonant when done with a professional. That doesn't mean they won't work for everyone! If you're curious, give it a read!
A great place to start healing and improving yourself, direction and actionable advice that works well in the real-world.
I have been hearing alot about stored trauma and wanted to read more about somatic healing. This book gave a lot of good suggestions for healing as well as the background to how it all starts.
I think most of the exercises suggested are very helpful and loved the fantastic descriptions for concepts that you may be asked to work with sometimes without having a proper grasp on what they mean.
This is a great introduction to somatic therapy, and how it can help with anxiety, depression, trauma, and even chronic pain. In addition to a thorough overview of what somatic therapy is and how it’s used, the book explains the terminology in understandable terms. The exercises provided in the workbook are very useful resources for grounding and feeling embodied. As a Health Librarian I’ll definitely be purchasing a copy. I can see this being helpful for both practitioners and the general public.
Very helpful! I'm grateful for the chance to work through this material. I've been wanting to learn more about somatic therapy, I feel like it's a topic that's getting more attention but hasn't reached the widespread recognition fo CBT/DBT!
