I thought this would be a funny medical memoir, but it’s more of a collection of corny dad jokes, related to his patients and the conversations they’d have. It’s a quick read, one that you can put down and pick up at any time. It’s a joke book essentially. I think this would make a great gift for the dads in your life, especially if they appreciate a good dad joke. It was fun and it made me smile.
I loved Funny Bones by Dr David Friedman. It really is hilarious and the book is jam-packed with jokes and anecdotes of Friedman's time as a chiropractor. Having studied anatomy and currently studying in an allied health field, it all made sense to me and was quite relatable, however, the jokes and terminology are still very accessible to the general public. My favourite section was about Friedman's interactions with famous people. Who knew so many people needed chiropractors?
Such a funny and easy to read book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.
Well, this is a really hilarious book full of silly jokes. Old humor, new jokes, chiropractic jokes, great jokes about farting while having chiropractic adjustments, stories of entertainers with bad backs, just one heck of a really, funny book. This is a greatly relaxing book and has no socially redeeming value at all. Except for laughter. And, hey, what is more healing than several hours of laughter. Laugh your pains away. Really impressively funny.
I laughed out loud from the very first page. What a delightful, fun, and easy read. Even the cartoons Dr. Friedman drew in each chapter gave me a chuckle. He shares quick-witted humor to help put nervous patients at ease and they also return the humor. with silly banter and even a few practical jokes. The one that the late great Robin Williams played on him was hilarious! I only wish more doctors would learn from this book that it's okay to smile and laugh with patients instead of the typical robotic uncaring nature so often experienced with conventional medicine. From funny true stories about his celebrity patients, married couples, and children, to farts, smelly patients and rednecks, this book has it all. I must warn you, if you are looking for a memoir-style, detailed book, you will be disappointed with Funny Bones. But if you want a quick, feel-good escape from your stresses and the daily grind, this book is the prescription for you. And, Dr. Friedman is giving all proceeds to charity. He's a funny doctor with a kind, giving heart.
Funny Bones is by "Chiropractor to the Stars" David Friedman.
This book was not what I was expecting,
It reads like an alternation of a kid's joke book with celebrity "tell-all" vignettes.
Lots and lots of puns
Lots of stories of various celebrities- and the amusing anecdotes of those encounters.
I have read other "doctor" stories that I felt did a better job of utilizing the humor format.
I can see where if you know Dr. Friedman, this book might be quite nice.
I really wanted a book that was more coherent, and more of a story.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC, my opinions are my own.
If you enjoy dad jokes, you may enjoy reading this book. It was a bit corny for my taste.
I do appreciate NetGalley and Greenleaf Book Group for granting access to an advanced copy.
