Power; The Rise of Black Women in America by Charity C. Elder is an incredible book that belongs on every library. Unfortunately school history books leave so many interesting, true stories about the people of the world and especially of this nation. A MUST read.
All I can say is WOW!!! This book opens with the following quote "This is the best time in America to be a Black Woman". While I have not always felt these words, these opening words resonated with my soul. From these first words to the very last words in this book, I felt empowered & motivated. After having read this book, I have a renewed strength and confidence in my ability as a Black Woman. I guess I didn't know my own strength. Thank you, thank you Charity Elder for an amazing book.

Thank you to #netgalley and #skyhorsepublishing for the ARC for Power: The Rise of Black Women in America by Charity C. Elder. This is an inspiring work about the black woman in America. With everything we have stacked against us black women still manage to thrive.
Elder's "Power" is a great entry to the Black feminist canon that marries statistics, digital humanities, and testifying into one accessible tome. I found myself reading portions of the books to fellow scholars to include in their current publications and lectures. I also appreciated the acknowledgement of "Black girl magic," but standing in and defining dopeness: a differentiation that is needed. I won't go into an in-depth analysis here, but I would add this to one's syllabi, book clubs, podcasts, and more.
