The Notekeeper was a wonderful, poignant, bittersweet novel of the journey through grief.

Zoe Evans is a hospice nurse who flees her native Australia after the accidental death of her son Sean. Zoe flees to England and takes a job at The Oaks a hospice in Bath England. The hospice is her world. She feels grerat empathy for her patients and starts becoming the notetaker of the book’s title. Zoe writes the last thoughts and wishes of her hospice patients for their loved ones. Some letters are lovely and heartwarming, some not so much, however she feels it is her duty to assist the dying in anyway that she can. Then The Oaks which is losing money is sold to the Harpers, a family that owns other hospices around Bath, enter Ben Tasker, Mr. Fix-it for the hospices that the Harpers purchase and save. Ben does not agree with Zoe’s writing down the dying thoughts of the patients as he fears a legal issue if one of the family members takes execption. Zoe is not pleased and they butt heads over the practice.. After a few weeks of arguing and misunderstandings the Hospice’s director takes them in hand and makes them work together. Zoe and Ben start deliviering the letters together and find a friendship and then love that they did not expect. Then tragedy strikes again.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the stories of the patients and the letters Zoe and Ben delivered, some were heartwarming and poignant, some were funny, but they were all needed. Zoe is able to work through her grief and come out the other side thanks to wonderful co-workers, friends and the love of Ben.

I recommend this book and thank Netgalley, the publisher Canelo and the author for the chance to read and review this book. The opinions exprressed are my own.

After her small son was killed in a hit-and-run accident, Zoe flees Australia and makes a life for herself in the UK. Because her husband was playing ball with him at the time and didn't stop him from running out in the road in time, Zoe blames him for the senseless tragedy. One of the only things she takes with her when she left was a note that one of the nurses at the hospital gave her....a note detailing her son's last words. Two years later, working as a care nurse in Bath and knowing just how much comfort last words can bring, Zoe has taken it upon herself to become a notekeeper - writing down the final thoughts of her patients and delivering them to their loved ones. Zoe’s new boss, Ben, isn’t happy about her getting so involved in the patients’ lives. Even as they clash, they both begin to realize that facing one’s past is the only way to move on. But life is never straightforward, especially for Zoe. In finally opening up her heart after all these years, is she about to have it broken all over again?
This book will make you smile and maybe also shed a tear or two. Perfect for fans of Cecelia Ahern, Jojo Moyes and Elizabeth Berg, this emotional read will definitely tug at your heartstrings, I loved reading all of the letters that Zoe wrote for the different patients, and hearing about their different stories. This was a book about regret, loss, redemption, forgiveness, and learning how to move on. I definitely recommend this one!

The aftermath of losing someone you love can be something really challenging especially when is unexpected and definitely premature.
Zoe lost his child to a heathen ran in feeling like she can deal with is leaves her home country Australia to move to England where she find a new space in becomes a hospice nurse. As a hospice nurse she decides to help her patients by helping them give messages to their love ones.
Ben is gnu to the management team of the hospice, and does not agree with Zoe delivering those letters, saying that it could harm the hospice.
You could say that there is a little bit of an enemies to lovers story here since Zoe and Ben banter quickly transforms to love.
Reading how the relationship develops and their highs and lows it’s really heartwarming. But even though there is a little bit of romance, the main topic of the book is how someone deals with grieve and how this is not the same for everybody.
I don’t want to spoil a lot of the book, but I have to say that you are going to love this. It’s so easy to fall in love with these characters and understand them, and feel all of their lose and love, and even though you’re going to cry because that’s just part of it, you will have a smile at the end!

The Notekeeper is a story of human grief. The grief we feel for our own loss, the grief we share with others, presumptive grief when we know loss is coming, the grief of the unfairness of life, and the grief we feel watching others grieve. It is also a tale of what comes after grief and illustrates how grief is as unique as those who experience it.

The story follows a hospice nurse coping with her own loss while preparing her patients for, in her words, a "good death." It highlights all the little mundane moments that make up a life even while everything is overshadowed by death.

I read the book from start to finish in one sitting, and I cried many times. I enjoyed it, but it isn't a book I will read again.

I loved this but my goodness I needed tissues! I did guess how it would play out but the writing was really tender and I loved seeing how the characters would all cope with everything thrown at them. I would highly recommend this book

I loved the concept of the notes and I felt the end of life care was dealt with sensitively and poignantly. I didn't really take to Ben though, who could be mean one minute, nice the next. The romance between him and Zoe doesn't ring true for me. Zoe herself is also changeable, but for the most part I liked her. I felt the ending was very well written. With thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Zoe works at an hospice. She left Australia for England after her son died and her marriage broke down. For the last 2 years she's been living in limbo. Her son had wrote a message before he was killed and over time it's gave her some kind comfort so she likes to write the dying person's last words for their family. But her new boss wants her to stop.

I found this quite an emotional read as Zoe works through her own personal grief and the challenges she faced. Beautifully written it tugs at the heartstrings. It's not all dark there are lot of lighthearted humorous moments too. It really is a rollercoaster of emotions.

What a wonderfully poignant and heartwarming story! The topic of elderly care or end-of-life care really tugs at my heartstrings, because it's very relevant to my personal situation.

Having someone like Zoe, who is dedicated to giving patients and their loved ones the closure and the peace of mind at the end, would be the greatest comfort.

The Notekeeper made me tear up with each note shared. It's sad, but still uplifting and I am so glad I had the opportunity to read it.

As a nurse who has worked in emergency care, palliative care, and now intensive care, the book resonated well with me. The author has done an amazing job of creating imaginary characters and situations that depict the world and society. The characters focus on themes of growing, self-discovery and confronting personal and social problems. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

First and foremost, I have to say this is NOT a romance, although it most definitely is a love story. In fact, it explores love very comprehensively, and is probably one of the most emotional stories I have read in a long time.

You will need your tissues for this one, as it deals with death and dying, unimaginable loss and utter heartbreak.

If you want a heartwarming romance with a happy-ever-after ending, this book isn't for you - yet, it is both life-affirming and uplifting. It will make you sad, it might make you cry, but what it also does is make you reconsider death and life, and the love in between.

I honestly don’t have much to say in favor of this book. The characters had no personality and nothing felt genuine. With a concept that relies heavily on emotion, The Notekeepers does a poor job conveying them in an articulate and meaningful way. It was boring and I felt nothing for anyone! If this weren’t an ARC I wouldn’t have made it past the 30% mark. Yikes.

Thank you NetGalley and Canelo!

Have you ever read a book that completely alters your perspective on something? Have you ever read a book that left you with a feeling of deep appreciation? This is what the Notekeeper has given me. I have such a deep love for this book and will always carry the lessons I have gained from this book. The Notekeeper is absolutely gut wrenching and heartbreaking, but yet so powerful.

I will always recommend this book, but if you struggle with grief or loss then I recommend it even more for you. Thank you, Hannah Treave.

This book is definitely a must read. I completely lost myself into this book. The mix of emotions and the truth coming in the deathbed is explained beautifully. Not a regular romance book but conveyed what love truly means.

ZOE - Losing a seven year old son is too hard. She moved away from her husband and worked in a hospice as a nurse, which is her favorite job. I loved the way how she kept notes on her patient's last words as she learnt how much it is necessary for the family of the dead person through her son. She treasured her son's last note to her. I would say she truly deserved a happy life and I'm so glad she made herself happy.

BEN - He's a person who loves his work so much and I was so glad to see him find a girl for himself. Even though his happily ever after was for a short period that was a beautiful phrase in his life which he woild treasure.

Tropes:-
Sunshine Heroine (Nurse)
Charming Hero (Boss)
Death of a child
Divorce
Finding hope

Once you pick this book you can't drop it down. Made me laugh, made me cry and made me hope for the best.

Thank you @netgalley and @fionafordauthor for providing me the ARC of this heartbreaking beautiful book.

This is a truly beautiful and deeply moving profound story, both uplifting, life affirming and really very touching. The characters and story are relatable, with a good knowledge of the subjects involved, well written with a good few surprises along the way.
Zoe makes a spur of the moment decision to fly to London after a tragedy in her life in Australia. She has been working successfully for 2 years at a hospice outside Bath, where she has gained a reputation of taking down in note form the last words of her patients. When a new company take over the hospice, there are changes and new challenges for Zoe, which brings more to her life than she could ever have thought possible.
I had to stop and reflect a few times, smiled and wept, it was so moving. Written with beautiful sensitivity on a subject that most people avoid yet it’s a part of all our lives.
I worked in a hospice myself for many years and saw and heard many similar stories so this was especially moving for me and reminded me of that precious time.
Thank you NetGalley for the early opportunity to read this very special book. Will be heartily recommending!!

The Oaks Hospice on the outskirts of Bath, senior care nurse Zoe Evans becomes a note keeper for the residents to leave their families and friends after they meet their maker.
Trouble shooter Ben Tasker is taking over her role to ensure the hospice was profitable and she is delighted, the staffs time keeping might improve for one thing.
He drops one bomb shell and that is to stop her writing notes and she has no choice he is her boss.
Love stories don't come any better than this, and Zoe finds this in Ben as they work together he is a good guy and becomes the love of her life.
This book is so heart breaking so good I reached for my tissues more than once lots of sad and happy memories are entailed in this wonderful story.
The Note keeper is a unique tale of love and loss with no regrets with one last note from Ben. It broke my heart. Loved it.

I received an advanced reader copy of The Notekeeper from the lovely people at Netgalley after submitting a request to read it. I read the blurb for this book and really wanted to find out what it was all about.

The book is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time, Zoe's life has been anything but easy and when she flees Australia to make a new life thousands of miles away, she realises you can't outrun emotions. They don't stay hidden, but she finds solace in helping those who have a limited time to say what they need to say to the loved ones who need to hear it. By taking notes for them and writing them into letters and giving them to the ones who are left behind.

When Zoes new boss Ben takes over the hospice where she works and draws a stop to her note keeping she is infuriated. However as the story moves forward the reader learns why Ben was so cautious to let Zoe continue with her helpful writing. As the pair are forced to work together and set out on a journey to write a past wrong of Ben's, they quickly learn that love can be found in the strangest of places.

The author has written a beautiful novel here that will hit its readers straight in the heart, all I could think was what would I say if I had one last chance. Zoes character is bold and brave, guarded yet fierce in fighting for what she believes is the right thing. Ben is reserved, but opens up and eventually reveals his secrets.

However when fate reveals its hands in full glory, Zoe is left reeling. The story takes a heartbreaking turn, I don't like spoilers so I won't go over the ending, but to readers of this review.. Get the tissues at the ready! This is NOT a fluffy read, the underlying script of this book will make you think about real life.

This review is dedicated to all the people who have gone but will never be forgotten, may your light shine bright forever, with love, from those left behind.
