Powerful and memorable. A strong selection of poems that speak volumes. The celebration of own voices is especially effective through the careful, yet raw, words of poetry.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher Amistead, and the author Anastacia-Renee for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Renee's poetics address themes of archival, Black womanhood, queerness, Blackness, and quotidian life. Renee's poems celebrate Black culture and art from musicians, authors, and history all with a sense of reverence. Reading Renee's poems is like walking through a multimedia exhibition. I'm glad to see Renee represent Blackness in Seattle/West Coast/PNW.
Unfortunately no matter what I tried I could not get this to open. Sad because I was very excited to read it.
I am so thankful to have received an advanced reader edition of Side Notes from the Archivist before it's set to publish on March 14, 2023. I have such an appreciation for Own Voice/BIPOC writers and creators, and I am thoroughly captivated by their stories and narratives, especially when formatted poetically.
