I've yet to miss a Jaime Jo Wright novel and The Vanishing at Castle Moreau is a prime example of why.
I can't get enough of her on-the-edge-of-your-seat mystery and suspense. The castle setting was a fun twist to the standard haunted house vibe.
But I think my favorite aspect in this one was the characters. Particularly both of the grandmothers from both timelines. They were perfectly unique, endearing, and, at times, hilarious.
I will say that this one is her lightest in terms of the creepy, gore. But that's fine by me! I still haven't quite gotten over the ax murders in The Souls of Lost Lake. ;)

I received a copy from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own. I was not compensated for this review or required to give a favorable one.

Author Jaime Jo Wright has become well known for her dual-time line Gothic stories for a good reason. She does it well. Both timelines are seamless and fit together in a way that makes sense.

I enjoyed reading about Castle Moreau. Its creakiness, hidden rooms, and general spookiness made for great reading. I appreciated Wright’s humor, and her references to pop culture. How fun is that?

The author wasn’t afraid to tackle some tough subjects honestly, including alcoholism and abuse. Strong characters who can’t seem to break free from the hold of the castle makes this a page turner. In typical Wright style, I didn’t see the ending coming but all along I knew it was, as Wright puts it, a Scooby-Doo type surprise. You really do have to read this book if you enjoy suspense full of unexpected twists and turns.

I received a copy of The Vanishing at castle Moreauand this review is entirely my own.
It started off kinda slow but it was mysterious and eerie as I continued to read it.
it was fairly good and written well.

This was an amazing gothic tale of women living in a castle in Wisconsin. There is a long history of mysterious disappearances and the neighboring town thinks of the house as cursed. The author has several time periods featuring characters who experience the castle, 1801, 1870 and present day, and it was easy for me to follow. When the woman with the crooked hand haunts the little girl, the book takes on a horror feel. The story interweaves secrets, evil and even some romance. Cleo was interesting, but a little too guilt-ridden for me. All in all, this is a thoroughly enjoyable read and I recommend it to readers who love gothic mystery.

I am SO glad that I read this. Christian Horror is a really interesting genre and the author tackles it in a way that reminds me of M.Night Shymalan. There are three storylines, each with a different female point of view, but all located at Castle Moreau. I couldn’t read it fast enough to finally discover the secret of the Castle. I will definitely be looking for more stories by this author and I highly recommend this one!

I don't usually choose to read anything spooky... but I am SO glad I read this one!
It took me a while and several chapter to get fully invested in this book. I'll be honest, I almost gave up on it because I had no idea where it was headed. I'm so glad I stuck with it. It's one of the best books I've read in a while!
In fact, it was so good that I know I will be reading it again.
It's likely I will enjoy it even more knowing what's coming lol.
This is a new to me author, so I didn't have anything else to go on except reviews.
I'm hoping my review will encourage you to read this book as well!
This author is very talented in creating an intriguing setting, crafting excellent characters (some of which were quite creepy haha), and then weaving together an incredible tale with so many facets!
I highly recommend this book! I was given a copy by the publisher, but am not required to give any specified review. My opinions are all my own.
If you love mystery, creepy things that go bump in the night... an old castle that has a haunting past, with a little clean romance thrown in the mix, then you will enjoy this book!

Wow, loved this book so much. 4.5-5 stars!
Jaime Jo’s endings always have such a big reveal and leave you with such hope. This quote made me cry… “a sisterhood that is greater than fear, and a holy strength that conquers evil.” If you like mysterious castles with secrets, gothic vibes, dual timeline, a century-old mystery….great characters with a little bit of romance sprinkled in- read this!

This is a multi timeline, primarily dual timeline. We have 1801 with short updates here and there from a perspective called “the girl”. It appears to be those that originated in the castle. Then we have 1870, where orphaned Daisy Francois takes a job as a housemaid at the castle. She meets a Gothic authoress who appears to be hiding things about the castle so Daisy starts trying to piece everything together to figure out the castle’s secrets. She also has a small romance here start to bloom. Then we have present day, where Cleo Clemons is hired by this woman’s grandson who lives at the castle- he wants Cleo to help his grandmother with her hoarding tendencies throughout the castle. But there is more to meets the eye for Cleo at Castle Moreau….With a romance blooming for Cleo, secrets of her own to hide and a mystery uncovered at the castle, Cleo may get more then she bargained for in this new job…

The two timelines are tied together by the generations of people who built the castle leading up through present day, while these generations are keeping the secrets of the castle hidden and a lady in each timeline comes in trying to figure everything out with their own little romantic interest.

Some parts were a bit longer for me then others but this is so close to 5 stars for me because of the ending. That last 25% when everything was revealed….my heart. I loved what Jaime Jo did with the ending of this yall! I didn’t see it coming. Completely shocked.

This also wasn’t too creepy for me. Some parts are a little unsettling but nothing too bad. There are mentions of past child abuse but it’s off page and not detailed. The creepy level really just reminds me of stories from mysterious castles like you might see in an episode of “Are You Afraid of the Dark” 😁 Nothing too scary! Maybe some shadows lurking in the dark or someone rattling a door knob but we don’t know who/no one is there type stuff 😁

Overall, I can’t wait to dive into more of Jaime’s books as this was amazing! Thank you to the publisher for providing an ebook copy to honestly read and review.

This story takes place in three different time periods. All of them at Castle Moreau. The Castle is shrouded in mystery and noted for young women disappearing.

I found this book to be confusing at times. It kept jumping back and forth between time periods. Which I understand since it takes place in different times. It seemed to be rather wordy and seemed to drag at times. The ladies all seemed rather timid and afraid of their own shadows. All that being said, the premise of the story was good. The mystery of the castle was unraveled in the end.

I was given this book by Bethany House Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

This was touted as a gothic/horror/mystery, I did not realize it was also Christian fiction.

The story itself was lacking - I never warmed to the characters and I really struggle when there is something in a character’s past that so obviously impacts their present but it is never stated explicitly - just hinted at. Overall, the bones were there - creepy old house, missing girls, trauma - but it never quite coalesced into something I enjoyed.

This book sounded interested, and I heard great things about it, so I was interested in checking it out (even though I've struggled with books by this author in the past). Sadly, this one was a struggle for me, as well. It just didn't pull me in, and the pace was too slow. I liked the short chapters and alternate timelines and POV's, as well as the setting. But I didn't find this to be spooky or believable. I was surprised by the info dumps, which made the plot drag. The tension I expect in this genre was missing. I do applaud the author for tacking some difficult topics (such as alcoholism and child abuse).

Christy Award winning author Jamie Jo Wright presents a story full of mystery and things that go bump in the night. This story has three distinct timelines that all revolve around the mysterious Castle Moreau in Wisconsin. In the early 1800s, when the castle was still new, a six-year-old girl who has lost her mother is visited in the night by the ghostly appearance of a woman with a crooked hand. In the 1870s, another young girl, Daisy Francios, an orphan with a troubled past, comes to work at Castle Moreau as a maid. She is introduced to the owner, an 86-year-old reclusive author of horror stories, featuring a woman with a crooked hand. She is also introduced to the author's grandson - the only other occupant - and is warned that there are places in the castle that are off-limits. In town, she learns of the rumors surrounding Castle Moreau and its grounds and the young women who have vanished there. In the present day, Cleo, who is hiding from her past in order to protect her sister, takes an off-the-books job at Castle Moreau to help the current owner, who is a hoarder, declutter and organize the house. Deacon Tremblay, the handsome and wealthy grandson of the woman Cleo will be helping, has hired her and warns her that his grandmother may not be too cooperative. Cleo meets some people in town who are all too aware of the rumors of vanishings that have swirled around Castle Moreau for decades... and then someone leaves a tape recording involving the mysterious disappearance of one the girls who disappeared and was last seen on the Castle grounds...
This is not a coming to faith story, but elements of Christianity are present throughout. The main focus, however, is on the mystery. It is an intriguing read and I enjoyed it - including the ending, which I will not give away!!
From the back cover: A haunting legend. An ominous curse. A search for a secret buried deep within the castle walls.

4⭐️s!!!

I love how the shrouds of uncertainty and often eerie concepts came full circle at the end. The Vanishing at Castle Moreau launched into the captivating tale with a deeply mysterious opening scene with The Girl and wove an ominous tale all the way to the final pages that bring closure to all the mysteries and questions surrounding this castle and the occupants for centuries.

The modern timeline was my favorite because the reader gets to unfold the history of the castle from the townsfolk’s point of view. The modern timeline unravels the current fears and worries of the family as the aging matriarch is succumbing to what seems to be a form of dementia — or could it be the ghosts that have haunted her from living an entire lifetime in this unusual castle.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bethany House for providing an e-copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Another fantastic suspense book from one of the best in Christian fiction. Jaime Jo Wright has out done herself with The Vanishing at Castle Moreau!

Set in two timelines, The Vanishing at Castle Moreau starts in 1870 with Daisy Francois, an orphan who goes to Castle Moreau as a housemaid running from her past. The castle is owned by a very peculiar woman who writes gothic novels and keeps many secrets in her estate, and local legend has girls form the area disappearing in the vicinity of Castle Moreau. In present day timeline, Cleo Clemmons is also running from her past and answers an ad for help at Castle Moreau. She is hired by the grandson of an illustrious billionaire to help his grandmother deal with her hoarding and bring the Castle back to what it once was. Within hours of arriving, she is sucked into the mysteries surrounding Castle Moreau that is not only in the past but still shrouding them today.

Nothing and no one are what they seem when it comes to The Vanishing at Castle Moreau. Jaime Jo Wright has crafted a story with characters so far beyond and better than I could have hoped for. I have loved all I have read by her, and this tops the list. The mystery and story in each timeline will suck readers in and keep them glued to the pages until the very end. Both Cleo and Daisy have great character development and the interactions they have with those at the Castle are mysterious, intriguing, and luring. This book has everything I wanted in a mystery book all while being clean and delivering a good message throughout. Jaime Jo Wright gets better and better with each novel she writes giving readers a story we can’t help but fall in love with and characters we want to see succeed. I’ve found a lot of the books I’ve read lately to just have the same feel and end up being bored with them; luckily, I can say that was not the case here. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great story with mystery and a great lesson of redemption and not judging someone by what others say.

I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.

I loved this book! Intriguing, compelling, captivating. The mystery of Castle Moreau kept me turning pages through the night and I couldn’t put it down.

As always, Wright weaves a tale of darkness overcome by light and hope. I love the way she seamlessly tethers the past and the present to bring the readers along on a nail-biting journey.

The authentic gospel message of hope was a golden thread that ran throughout the story, tying all the little bits together.

This book is perfect for readers who love romantic suspense, split time stories and faith filled fiction.

I received an ARC of this book but all opinions are my own.

Great Book however really creepy! I think Jaime has a talent for keeping her readers engaged with characters that have heartfelt emotion while also weaving them around darker themes that will have you at the edge of your seat. There are multiple time lines and two POVs

I am still in awe of how deeply moving and emotional “The Vanishing at Castle Moreau” was. This story was nothing like I expected but everything that I needed. It was spooky and creepy, yet somehow sweet and uplifting. Jaime poignantly captured the pain that plagues victims of domestic abuse, all the while highlighting the hope and redemption that can be found only in the Lord🙏🏻❤️

TVACM is a novel that will stick with me for decades to come because it was such a unique and heartfelt story. I loved the dual timeline aspect and getting to see the pieces of the puzzle surrounding the mystery of the vanishing women come together for both sets of characters. Getting to witness two timelines gave the plot of this story so much depth and dimension, I just adored it!

As for the romantic aspects, I feel that Jaime incorporated the perfect amount of sweet tension and romance in this story to balance out the heavy topics the novel grapples with. Deacon Tremblay just gave me ALL THE HEART EYES and I totally cast Henry Cavill for him in my mind👀😍😂 And sweet literary-loving Lincoln! Be still my heart❤️

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this story!! The ending truly shocked me and I was moved to tears in the final chapters🥹😭 Jaime Jo wright is a literary GENIUS!! I can’t wait to go back and read her backlist!!

🚨TW: Multiple characters have experienced domestic abuse which is briefly mentioned/described but nothing is graphic!! This book is definitely on the creepy side and has descriptions of phantoms haunting characters.

🚨CW: clean romantic suspense with no language and just kisses.

The Vanishing at Castle Moreau had me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what was behind the sinister disappearances at this mysterious castle. The book follows the perspective of three different females who are plagued by secrets and use Castle Moreau as a place of refuge and escape. What makes this book so special is that the reader gets a glimpse into both the present and the past and desperately tries to find a way to piece together the information given to solve the big question, “What is causing women to vanish from this sinister castle?”

I found myself invested in the lives of the characters in this book. Cleo, (our present-day character), is a young woman who is running from mistakes in her past. Daisy, a young lady from the 1800s, is passionate about solving the mystery behind the castle. I also found the view of the unnamed, little girl, very interesting. The author was able to make them believable by giving each character flaws, and secrets they are ashamed of, and showing that they were capable of growth over time.

Audiences who enjoy a book shrouded in mystery and a sprinkling of romance should try “The Vanishing at Castle Moreau”. This dual-time Gothic novel does approach some topics for mature audiences, such as alcoholism, physical abuse, and death. The author, Jaime Jo Wright, did a wonderful job in approaching these big topics in a very delicate manner, using the idea of redemption, and starting anew through God throughout.

I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Bethany House through Interviews & Reviews and NetGalley for my honest opinion.

Wow -- what a fabulous time split book! Old castles are creaky and a bit spooky on their own, but when you add a woman who writes incredibly scary tales and another who has definite hoarding tendancies, things get even more mysterious.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I was convinced I knew what was going on, but boy was I wrong! LOVED the twists and turns in this one.

Jaime Jo Wright is a master at her craft. I highly recommend this one.

The multiple timelines in this book create the perfect atmosphere and setting to pull you deeply into the story. Grief, mystery, and fear are seamlessly blended together to create a reading adventure like no other. The characters are relatable, but distant enough to keep it interesting and I can't wait to read more from this author.

The Vanishing at Castle Moreau is a split time book, as the last book by Wright was. There are different people living at the mysterious Castle Moreau in the different timelines.
Daisy is a young girl starting as housemaid at the castle, then there is the present day. Cleo a woman who is running from her past, and comes to the castle in answer to an advertisement. Very mysterious goings on at the castle. As is Wright style this novel is creepy although I did not find it as spooky as her previous novels. I enjoyed this one very much and could not wait until the end to see how both of theses timelines would end.
Jamie Jo Wright is a master at weaving together curses, legends and ghost stories into beautiful stories of hope and redemption…..Thanks to the publisher for an e copy to read and review this interesting book.
