The Gathering Storm is a novel of World War II depicting the lives and actions of soldiers in wartime (during training, battle and prison camps) as well as the women left behind at home. The novel is well written and the characters are very interesting and well developed. There are several major plot lines involving various aspects of the war, family tensions and loyalties, straying outside of marriage, women working in factories, women flying transport planes, and greed and profiting from wartime manufacturing.
The book is interesting reading but my major objection is that the author just stopped writing. This book is undoubtedly the first novel in a series since a significant amount of the story lines are not completed.

Thanks Net Gallery

Set during WWII follows brothers and wife of Clyde alternating chapters. I had a difficult time putting it down and was shocked when it ended on such a cliffhanger. I didn't realize it was a sequel.
