I downloaded this book, attempted to read it and the file wouldn’t work in my kindle. By then it was archived and I couldn’t attempt to download it again. Was unable to read it and would give it no star rating if that was an option.
Let’s make bread by Mari Bolte was a fun and educational book to go through with my 8 year old daughter. She had been begging to bake for awhile now and I am not a baker. Mari’s book taught both of us! It is written in a very easy to follow way yet is very educational! I definitely recommend this book.
This series is super cute for little ones. First it tells you about bread and then it gives you a pretty easy recipe (with easy to follow instructions) on making your own bread.
Making bread is one of the most satisfying adventures I’ve ever had in my kitchen. The ability to stretch and “play” with the dough plus getting rid of any frustrations is a bonus! Plus the wonderful aroma throughout my home is beyond perfect. This book makes it easy to conquer any doubts about making bread while acquiring a new skill and confidence in the kitchen.
I received a free copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
What might seem at first to be a simple kid's recipe for baking a loaf of bread is really more than meets the eye. Before the baking fun begins, there's a history of bread lesson, and a detailed description of how yeast works and what is happening to the loaf of bread as it bakes. This description is a good science lesson, and might lead your child into a greater interest in science.
And then the fun begins. With step by step instructions and plenty of pictures, your child will bake a loaf of bread. It's an exciting accomplishment! After the recipe has been followed and the loaf of bread is cooling, there's a few websites that could be visited, along with other recommended reading and a glossary.
With the various aspects of learning involved - reading and following instructions, dabbles in science, history, math (measuring ingredients) and language skills, I could definitely see this book becoming popular with homeschoolers. But there's value in store for every child, and their parents, too. What a great way to bond with your child and create a good memory.
My thanks to author Mari Bolte, Norwood House Press, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital advance review copy of this book. This review is my honest and unbiased opinion.
This is a good book for kids with an interest in baking.
There is a brief history of bread and how's it's made. Then a simple recipe for you to make your own bread.
Lots of great pictures and easy to follow instructions.
this book is an introduction to breads, the history, how it's made, and the fact and science behind it. there's a step-by-step tutorial on how to make it but little readers still need an adult's help to do it. there's glossary for unfamiliar words and future reading references relatted to breads.
Is this for children? I find bread baking to be too advanced for myself, but then again, I hate measuring and the idea of dealing with yeast. There's a recipe at the end for those who are inclined.
Let's Make Bread is an accessible and well written guide to breadmaking aimed at middle grade readers and facilitators. Released 25th Aug 2022 by Norwood House Press, it's 32 pages and is available in hardcover and paperback format.
Author Mari Bolte has written a fun series of activity books slanted toward young readers with food related DIY activities. This particular volume includes step by step illustrated instructions start to finish, for producing a simple loaf of bread along with some serving suggestions. All steps are clearly photographed with specific and complete tools and ingredients lists. The writing is simple and understandable with specific steps to follow for a successful outcome. She squeezes in an impressive amount of chemistry and background info without being condescending at all. There's also a neat very short history lesson about humanity's shared history with yeast and breads. The vibe of the entire series is upbeat, excited, and cool.
Five stars. This would be a superlative choice for public or school library acquisition, home use, activity/makers' groups, or gift giving.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Let's Make Bread by Minnesota author Mari Bolte is an introductory guide for kids, complete with recipe and variations to try (with the assistance of an adult, of course). A short glossary of terms is included also.
What a fantastic book for children to learn about, and make basic bread. It has very clear, simple and child-friendly instructions to help guide the child step by step, and includes a bit of background information and history at the beginning. I love how there’s lots of big photos for each page -. I think this is so important, as children need to know what they’re aiming for. A great book for a child to learn the basics of bread making, and grow their confidence in the kitchen.
Thank you to Norwood House Press and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.
not much to this, no great photos only one very basic recipe. this book is not made for kids more of an info sheet. no real value.
Simple enough for kids to follow. Maybe a bit wordy though. The instructions are clear and concise, and most kids would have no problem following them. There was a fun little history lesson about bread for kids to read. I’d maybe pair down the ingredients to make one small loaf with instructions on how to increase it for more when they’re more confident.
If you're looking for a guide on making bread with your kiddos, this book is a good source. It not only gives an overview about bread in it, it also gives a step by step guide to making it! I liked the part at the end that tells you how you can mix the recipe up the best.
Thank you NetGalley and Norwood House Press for accepting my request to read and review Let's Make Bread.

This is a three part illustrated book encouraging bread making. The history of bread, a checklist, and finally making your bread. If needed, there is a glossary.
While reading, I did not find this difficult.
I would have this packed in a basket with the ingredients and gift. I also see this, if prepared in advance, a great snow day family activity.
I thought that this was a really good book!
It was only brief but it had plenty of facts and I loved that after learning all about bread there was a recipe and instructions to make your own loaf
It was easy to read and follow and great for kids who want to learn more
It is well laid out, the images are nice and clear too which make it an attractive book
My daughter is a little too young for the book at the moment but she loves baking (we do it every weekend together) so this will definitely be one for her when she is a little older
It is 5 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended!
This was just what my kids needed for a long weekend. We went and bought ingredients and tried new things together and they want to do more. This is highly recommended for families wanting to cook together.
Let's Make Bread is a great non-fiction read that explains what goes into making bread, including the role yeast plays and how the varying ingredients effects the resulting bread. It has a table of contents, glossary and futher reading section that makes it informative and user friendly for children as they learn to navigate the tools of a non-fiction resource. Key vocabulary words are bolded throughout the text, then defined well in the glossary at the end of the book. It also includes a recipe with clear and easy steps to making your own bread. This book is a great addition to a library's youth non-fiction section! Thank you to Norwood House Press and NetGalley for this ARC!
