There are some really good ideas in this book, but the story is all over the place with weak character development and world building. It felt as though characters were only introduced as and when they were needed, without any real characteristics or background, so it was hard to feel connected to them or be invested in them.

This made it difficult to get into the story, and it took me a while to read it as I had little desire to come back for more. The final part (part 4) was a lot better, but it was a struggle to get there.

This story of perseverance shows how one woman can avenge her family in a war torn world. The main characters ability to build relationships after such hardships is realistic and I almost felt that this is how i would feel if I had gone through the same things. I loved the way that this has been portrayed however i found that i was correct in some of the theories which i formed early on in the book.

This does not mean that i would not recommend this book and the author to others, I just think this is not the writing style and author for me.

Elmond is a mystic – a strong, silent, and just type. He is in the South after war has been raging and is contracted by a refugee family to safely guide them North through the dangerous woodlands. As their journey begins, they are constantly under threat from bands of marauding soldiers. They stumble across other refugees as well, one of whom is a mysterious woman named Lea with an unusual gift. Joining together, Elmond and Lea hope to bring justice to this world and protect the creatures of the land.

While this work has an intriguing premise, it was unfortunately not executed well. The author’s writing style leaves much to be desired: between the simplified and repetitive sentence structures, the bland dialogue, and the lack of any relevant details, there wasn’t much to find engaging. The worldbuilding was utterly lacking with no explanations for plot or character relevant details. In fact, the only part of the book that was detailed was the emergency abortion performed.

The characters were one-dimensional with nothing to differentiate them from each other aside from their names. The author relied on telling rather than showing, and errors abounded. There was nothing positive that I can say about this work. My thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for allowing me to read and review this book.

Thank you Victoria Wattiaux, Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for this free copy in exchange for a review.

Trying to read this book makes me wish I could get a sample of a couple of pages before agreeing to read Advance Readers copies, so that I have an idea of the writing style.

Like so many books these days, this one jumps right into quick, prose-void exposition, with characters lacking distinct characteristics, aside from their genders.

I would prefer to leave reviews after reading more than one chapter, but sometimes that's impossible. I'm sorry to say, it's unfortunate that (even though I don't have ADD), I had dificulty even paying attention to what I read, because it was boring.

There was nothing about it that was interesting to read, which might set it apart from any other book, which is unfortunate, as I tend to enjoy mystical novels.

Everyone can improve though, so better luck next time to the author.
