I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. This is my honest review.
This is a cute little rhyming story about a great big yawn that starts with a puppy and travels all through the town making everyone very sleepy. I don't know how well the power of suggestion would work on little ones at bedtime and can't really test it out with my kids any more, but it made me yawn near the end while reading, so make of that what you will.
The illustrations were on the dark side, but as this book is set in the evening, presumably, that is fitting. The more muted colors probably work to keep kids more drowsy and less amped up. And I'm not sure how I feel about the yawn being depicted almost ghost like. Does that mean yawns are really spirits leaving our bodies?
Overall I give this book 4.1 out of 5 stars.
This is a sweet, good-night, sleep tight, beautifully illustrated picture book featuring animals taking the part of people. It would help a young child fall peacefully to sleep.
This a grandma buy. Grandparents would like to read this book to grandchildren so they are likely to purchase it. A library would also find it a worthy addition to their collection as it would circulate frequently.
This turns out to be part of a charity-minded franchise, and this fourth entry in it barely features Jake. He's a dog who lets out a big yawn, which spreads like the world's greatest contagion of narcolepsy, making all the critters it encounters yawn and fall asleep – including, it's intended, you the reader. No, it wasn't that exciting, was it? As you might gather, I didn't find favour with the idea of a sleep aid that just wanders the world, and it's a good job none of the birds here were flying about, or the beaver midstream. Visually, things are designed to have a CGI cartoon aesthetic, and it kind of works for the target reader but isn't a style I love, and while the rhymed text is not too bad at all, I did think this poor when considering some of the better night-time sleep aids I've read.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC.
I think its adorable that the author made the yawn into a character who travels around to visit others. The yawn definitely visited me while reading! I liked the rhyming that occurred- as a teacher I appreciate the exposure to rhyming. The simple pictures do not make it overstimulating to look at and I think young readers would enjoy this book.
A clever take on how a yawn keeps going. A bedtime story about a yawn that keeps going from one to another and in different ways. Will it get you? Can you escape the Biggest Yawn Ever! The challenge is on for the little one that has a hard time going to bed.
A special thank you to Books Go Social and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review
Fun book about getting to sleep and yawning. In the introduction to the book, the author says that they fell asleep writing the book. The writing and illustrations are funny and it is a good, quick, effective read. And, no, I did not fall asleep during the book. Though I did yawn.
Did I yawn?... Yes.
Do I want a Yawn plushie?... Double Yes.
This is one bedtime story guaranteed to put kids to sleep. Not only is the illustration adorable and the story simple to follow, it also teaches kids that everything and everyone eventually needs sleep.

Jake and the Biggest Yawn Ever lives up to its promise and made me yawn 3 times.
This is. Great naptime/bedtime story. The writing is creative
and the images are creative and inclusive.
The is my second Jake book and I must say I am a fan of his fun well written adventures. I'll be keeping my eyes open for that sweet little dog in the future
Cute rhyming book here.
Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC.
They always say yawns are contagious and in this story that rings true.
This book was a favourite bedtime story. Yawns here and yawns there - everyone will be yawning and ready for sleep by the end. Yawn is a roller-skating ghost making his way through town putting all those still awake to sleep. Such a cute story, fabulous we all enjoyed it!!
Cute rhyming book around the bedtime theme. Yawn goes from place to place helping all the critters and people prepare for sleep. Rhyming was creative but not necessarily easy to predict for young children. The book included new vocabulary words that would be great to introduce to young readers.
This was such a cute children's book!
The story follows "yawn" as he travels around making both animals and people sleepy.
The rhyming made the story easy to read and follow. The pictures were cute and colorful!
I would highly recommend this to anyone with little children!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A very cute bedtime book about a yawn that escapes and gets the whole neighborhood sleepy! The text is lively and full of expressive words, but my favorite part of this was the illustrations. They are all very cute and full of fun details and sly jokes. Kids will spot something new each time. This did feel a little long--if I were reading to small kids I might strategically skip a page or two sometimes. But it's a great sleepytime book to help kids wind down and get to yawning. It could definitely become a favorite part of the bedtime routine!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
My kids loved this one. They enjoyed the story line and stayed engaged. We loves dogs so they really liked the jokes.
What a delightful bedtime story! I loved the story and the illustrations. The rhythm of the story is definitely a soothing way to settle little ones into bed. This Nana loved it! Thanks #NetGalley
A lovely goodnight story about a dog named Jake and his yawn that spread throughout the land.
When Jake releases the biggest yawn EVER, the yawn escapes and travels to everyone it can find. One by one, all of Jake’s animal and human friends fall fast asleep, ensuring a good night’s rest ahead.
As always, I am incredibly fond of a good rhyming cadence when it comes to bedtime stories, and this one is top notch. The illustrations are vibrant, and the usage of the word Yawn over and over makes it very difficult for the reader not to have a yawning fit themselves throughout. Great for getting little ones ready for bed.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ability to read and review this title.
Yawnn....
This book is cute and the illustrations are adorable. I think this book did a good job because it made me yawn. Definitely not in boring way
Jake and the Biggest Yawn Ever! made me yawn like a couple of times. Jake is the cutest dog ever existed and I loved this book very much.
I'm trying to find new children books and authors to introduce my nephews and niece to. Jake and the Biggest Yawn Ever! was a lovely surprise. It's the perfect length for a children's bedtime story, some of the rhyming felt a bit off and mediocre but thoughtful enough for a child's story. I can picture my nephews really liking this one, however think illustrations look a bit cheap and jarring. I think the imagery needs to be reviewed. It wasn't very engaging picture wise.
It did however make me yawn by the last few pages, so perfect for trying to get a little one to sleep.

"Can YOU read this book without yawning a yawn?"
No, I couldn't. Heck, just thinking about a book about yawns was enough to make me break out in yawns. Written to be an effectively bed time story, I'd say that author Chris Hardy met her goal. Inspired by her own dog, Jake, the whimsical illustrations and soothing, lyrical flow definitely is enough to lead a reader to at worst stifle a yawn. I wonder how many parents have fallen asleep in the midst of reading this to their children?
Although the Biggest Yawn Ever is visualized as a sort of ghostly spirit in the night, the character of Jake is, as noted, based on Hardy's real life dog, a rescue that, in turn, came to live with Hardy's family when his human passed. Hardy has formed a company around Jake that pledges to donate a portion of every sale to the likes of the Humane Society, rescue shelters, or St. Jude's and the Ronald McDonald House. Good dog, Jake. Keep up that contagious yawn.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #BooksGoSocial for introducing me to Jake and that, oh, so contagious yawn. Now I think I need to go take a nap.
