Not my usual choice of genre but I did enjoy the story nevertheless. Just as you think you have easily worked out what the dilemma is you are thrown an unexpected curved ball so be ready for some surprises.
The three main characters were a bit too perfect for my liking and the epilogue was not to my taste but don’t let that stop you listening or reading this book it has lots to be interested in.

This was very original and unexpected but a pleasant surprise! This is my first book by this author and I’ll be keeping an eye on her now.. I was interested when I saw the book but I had to get it when I saw the audio and I’m glad I did because the narration was wonderful.

This isn’t a mystery or thriller, it’s a full on family/domestic drama. It was actually refreshing. I thought it was going to be too stressful but it was handled wonderfully. It kept me guessing but was still also a relaxing listen with a bit of suspense at times.

We start out on Charlotte and Zac’s anniversary. They’re celebrating at an island themed bar and both feeling a little too old for it. They go home and Charlotte wakes up and nervously takes a pregnancy test. They’ve been trying for years and it just isn’t happening.

This is when Zac decides to reveal he can’t have any more children and she’s been wasting her time. Unlike most book women, she leaves his butt. 👋🏼 He comes home to find he’s all by his lonesome.

So starts Charlotte's journey on her own. Upon leaving Zac, she calls her old modeling BFF and she helps her get settled. I don’t want to reveal much more because I didn’t know going in and that made it pretty interesting.

These friends are put to the ultimate test when a mistake has consequences for the future and can no longer be hidden. How the friends handle it is both heartwarming and breaking. It’s a beautiful story with complex characters that mean well but fall short.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to listen and review!

I enjoyed The Dilemma, but have been puzzling in my head for 2 days how to write this review. First, it's a solid book with an interesting premise and a couple twists. It kept my attention and I listened to this over the course of an evening and a morning. So, great job author for writing characters that were able to move the plot along.

My issue with how to write this review was solved for me when revisiting the Netgalley site to look at the book listing. I am one of those people who see a cover and/or a title and base my decision to read on those alone. I did not read the publishers blurb prior to requesting this novel and I went in completely cold. That said, my dilemma (pun intended) was thinking that if I said too much in this review, it would be spoilers and ruin it for you. I am glad I did not read anything from the publisher prior to reading the book, and I would encourage a slightly modified version for the final release - too much is told to the reader. We know Charlotte was craving a baby. We know she ultimately becomes pregnant. And we know if the father's identity is revealed, a friendship between Charlotte and gal-pal Tiff will be impacted and likely destroyed. It's too much. Let the reader go in not knowing that surprise as I did. I was so excited when pages before what I thought was the "big twist", I had already guessed it.

I also guessed the second twist, a serious baby illness and that was also given away in the publishers verbiage.

As for the audio portion of the review, I was not a huge fan of this narrator. Her voice is lovely but there were three main female characters and I swear they all sounded identical. There seemed little attempt to voice them with unique characteristics and new chapters started with the name of the female who would be featured. If you missed that name announced at the start, you had to really pay attention to figure out which character was not the lead.

Happy to recommend this and would definitely read more by author Julia Roberts.
