"Christmas won't be Christmas without any corpses."
As someone who grew up reading and watching Little Women (we're talking the 1994 CLASSIC for those of you who deem it wise to argue), this was a hilarious spin on a well-loved story.
I don't necessarily recommend picking it up if you are not someone who enjoys "retellings" of classic stories. If Pride and Prejudice and Zombies wasn't for you, the likelihood of you enjoying this revamped (get it?) rendition of a beloved classic would be low. However, I would gladly recommend and hype up any of you who enjoy a unique twist on a classic.
The integration of the paranormal into the original text is well-done, leaving you with the comfort and familiarity of the original story, all the while delving into new topics, adventures and re-imagined characters and events.
"It was the height of rudeness to dine on your guests, particularly if they were your social equal. Likewise, it was unforgivably vulgar to stake your host."
Little Vampire Women was originally published in 2010, but was re-released on October 24, 2022. Thank you to The Book Whisperer, Potatoworks Press, Louisa May Alcott, Lynn Messina and NetGalley for the ARC.
If you’ve read Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott, you basically know what this book is all about. This is a retelling of the classic book, only the main characters are vampires and they talk about eating creatures like it’s the most natural thing in the world. Which, I suppose, in their world it is.
There isn’t a lot to say about this one that hasn’t already been said. It was published in 2010, a year into the the monster mashup trend, but is being re-released on October 25, 2022 for…reasons? It’s kind of a fun idea, but not particularly well executed. I mean, anyone can grab a book whose copyright protection has expired off Project Gutenburg, copy the text in its entirety, and stick in a vampire reference here and there.
⭐️⭐️ for me. Meh. Are all of the monster mashups like this? Maybe I don’t need to read them, no matter how entertaining they seem in theory. This wasn’t for me, but if you already like the genre, you’ll probably like this one.
Big thanks to Lynn Messina (and Louisa May Alcott?), Potatoworks Press, and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. You can pre-order Little Vampire Women on Amazon and begin reading it on October 24, 2022.
I mean, I don’t have that much to say. I didn’t really enjoy the book like I thought I would. I thought the vampire plot line would add an exciting twist. However, I was clearly wrong. The story was kind of boring and lack luster. I also feel that the dialogue was cringe and didn’t fit the story well.
4/5 Little Vampire Women
Do you love retellings of classics? Retellings with a monster twist? If you answered yes to both or One of those then this book is for you!
I’ve always loved a good classic book and Little Women is no different! Add in a spooky twist into it and it allows you to reread a favorite for the first time.
I always love to see how author takes a classic and puta there own spin on it and Lynn Messina did not disappoint!
I received this book in place for a honest review
1 star
This was Little Women plot but just add vampires. Nothing less and definitely nothing more.
I was expecting something exciting but was this was very disappointing.
This might have been a better book if I were not expecting some of the qualities of the original Little Women. As it is, it's a good twist on the original but more of a horror meets YA fiction than what I expected. It is an interesting, entertaining story in it's own right and can stand alone as a Lynn Messina title without adding the classical expectations of LMA fans. Good, not great but definitely worth reading.
3.5* upped to 4
I had fun and think that the idea was intriguing. There's some very funny moments and some which are sort of copied from the original story.
It's a funny and light read that I enjoyed.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
A very silly but quite amusing twist on a well loved classic and a fun book to lose a few hours with.
3.5 -4
Thank you to netgalley for the ARC !
I think the best way to describe this is re reading little women, but in an alternate reality where vampires exist normally.
The book on a whole reads almost identical to the original in May ways, some places even feel the same line by line, then all of a sudden someone eats a kitten 😂
There were a few spelling errors I picked up in this read so hopefully that's been picked up for the full release.
I think it's important to go into this not expecting something ground breaking or original but if you enjoy little women and love the characters within you will find this a loyal rewrite. Perfect for a fun read, super enjoyable !
I enjoyed the book.it was fun how they were little vampire women instead. It made the book more interesting. I like this book too onebuf the similarities was how the girls worked together while their father was away at war. Overall this was a fun book. There should be a movie about it. This book was approved by netgalley and the publisher. For me to read and review.
Have you read Little Women? Well take that and add in eating live animals and you have this book. It’s not anything different at all - just little women but they’re vampires.
I get that it was kind of the point to have it be little women except their vampires. The thing is, this felt exactly like Little Women except we just changed some words to make them vampires rather than humans. I was expecting more from it. I’ve read the monster mash ups of many books like this and they all brought the original story and flipped it to make it into a monster story. This felt like the same story - but they’re Twilight-style vampires that don’t feed on humans. It was just so weird and honestly pretty boring.

I was granted this ARC by the publisher in return for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher!!
This retelling of Little Women with vampires was not my favorite. I think the concept was so cool and could have been really unique, sort of like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies but it just wasn’t super well done. The way they all spoke of being a vampire like it was a joke, the dialogue being like Little Women just didn’t fit the theme. I’m sure some people will like it, and find it charming as Little Women is but it just wasn’t for me. If the author had gone horror with it, or had gone vampire hunter it could have been really cool but making all the sisters vampires, but the same Little Women story just didn’t work for me.
I read about 25% of this book before I gave up. I really love Little Women, but this one just wasn’t for me. While I also love vampire/monster stories, this type of mash-up just wasn’t for me.
Let me tell you what a retelling is. Retelling is a NEW version of a story, An existing idea with a whole new story. Retelling isn't a copy paste from the original story and altered some words. This wasn't a retelling. This was little women with a few changed words. I really loved Little Women and this was not a good representation of them.
I was bored after the first chapter. The writing isn't great, but I was willing to give it a try since I had thought the premise was interesting and I do like creative retellings. But the writing is, as another reviewer put it, cringe-y that the intelligence and heart in the original novel is missing.
The opening to this book was very interesting. I did not expect Jo March to say "Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without corpses." It definitely gave me a giggle but the writing...ooof. I don't know if the writing was meant to be silly but it just came off cringe-y.
#netgalleyarc I was really intrigued and interested by this title when I saw it on Netgalley, and as I began to read it I realized…I’ve read it before. There was definitely a time when it was “cool” to write a retelling of a classic and tie in zombies or vampires, this book comes from that time. This book had the classic sister relationship from Little Women and some humor woven in. A good read for this spooky time of year.
