This is a very inspiring book that reminds us that good ole' fashioned kindness goes a long long ways. What started out as a life saved from a spreading fire turned into a romance, wildlife saving and a theft ring book. The way the author moved from just one path and wove all the others in was perfect and I look forward to looking for more of his books.
Great Chestnut story that wasn't overly Christmassy. There was a bit of mystery, a bit of love and a bit for animal lovers. Great story!
This is a wonderful and clean women's fiction but has little to do with Christmas in my opinion. This book shows family is determined by who steps up and accepts that in front of them. This heart-stirring novel set in Miramar Bay, an idyllic seaside town in California, highlights one of nature’s smallest birds, the hummingbird. Love learning something in a book and this has lots. Many facts about the hummingbird is presented and I like that the whole town steps up. A lot to like here: likeable main characters, a special little boy and his hummingbird and phenomenal talent, good dialogue, good storyline, good ending.
Thank you Netgalley, author and publisher for the opportunity.
Ryan is a policewoman dedicated to her uniquely gifted son, Liam. Ethan is alive because of her, so when she asks for his help stopping a string of robberies happening in houses vacated because of the fires, he of course accepts even before knowing what she needs. And when he meets Liam, their connection is instantaneous.
This was a sweet, heartwarming read. It's part of the Miramar Bay series, but definitely readable as a standalone - I read none of the other books in the series, this was my first book by this author, but definitely not my last. Although it does happen during the Holidays, I thought it was not as Christmas-y as I expected, but I loved everything about it: the connection between Ethan and Liam, Trever, the little hummingbird, the side characters, the close-knit community... I read this both in ebook format and in audio (the narration was great!). If you live Nicolas Sparks and Karen Kingsbury, you will love this!

This is a very uplifting story. The title drew me to this book as I have a love of hummingbirds. One tiny hummingbird near death bonded three people that were destined to be a family. The story brought attention to the loss from devastating wildfires. Not only do residents lose their homes and possessions but the wildlife is homeless as well. Ethan was rescued by Ryan, a policewoman, during the fire that destroyed his home. Ethan connected with Ryan's son Liam, a quiet, gifted child that few people understood, and they bonded through their love of art and the rehabilitation of one tiny hummingbird named Trevor. No one had ever taken the time to interact with Liam and the connection they formed was a blessing for all three of them. Excellent narration by Graham Winton.

It doesn’t look to be a very merry Christmas for author Ethan Lange when his California home is destroyed in a wildfire. Still he’s lucky to be alive; he was pulled to safety by police officer Ryan Eames, a woman struggling to keep up with the demands of her job and her introverted son, Liam. Ryan and Ethan team up to rescue animals that have been injured and left homeless by the fire and to rescue those still in peril. It’s through the animals, and hummingbirds in particular, that bring Ethan and Liam together to form a bond Ryan never expected. This is a sweet story of love and compassion that will leave readers in a much better mood than when they started it
Thank you Net Galley for an audio ARC of The Christmas Hummingbird by Davis Bunn. This is a new to me author and I'm hooked! I loved this emotional heartfelt book! Halfway through it brought me to tears. And I finished it yesterday and already recommended to friends today!
