Thank you for this ebook! Great book! Devon gets a visit that her sister, Kennedy, has been murdered. But wait a minute, that's not Kennedy on that table. Police insist all the tests confirm it is indeed Kennedy. Devon starts digging into her past, her things, finding people she knows, in attempts to get some answers. Secrets come out. People come out saying they knew her. What was she into?? great suspense. great ending!
Well this was what I call a roller-coaster-ride. You are being called to identify your dead sister. But although everybody tells you it is her you can't really believe it. This is what happens to Deven. So she sets out to discover what really goes on or went on in Kennedy's life.
Lots of twists and turns that kept me going on and on!
I really enjoyed the narration by Diana Blue!

Thank you to #netgalley and #tantoraudio for the advanced audiobook. I enjoyed the narrator. She made the book easy to follow.
Deven is called by the police to identify her sister's body, who had died by overdose. Deven does not recognize the woman and begins her own investigation into the whereabouts of her sister. Deven is already struggling with the grief of her recently deceased father and miscarriages. Along the way she discovers she does not know her sister as well as she thought she did.
The book is a page turner and had me invested right away. There were only a couple plot points that I was able to predict (which is good for me). I would have rated this book a 4 stars but due to the highly illogical twist at the end I am rating it 3 stars. The twist was utterly ridiculous and actually made me mad. It was a serious let down.
I didn’t love this or hate this. I felt like the characters were built up but certain ones seemed inauthentic at times. There were some interesting moments in the plot and the suspense was there but the ending did not work for me. I did not find it at all believable and was a bit of a letdown. The narrator of the audiobook version did a good job overall and she was believable and easy to listen to. It just didn’t make up for the lacking plot for me.
I received an advanced listening copy of this book, receipt of which did not impact my review.
Behind her Lives is a twisty family thriller, following Deven after she is called to identify her sister’s body - but she insists it’s not her. In the days that follow, Deven follows the clues (and some hunches) to try to get to the bottom of what is really going on.
This book was a roller coaster and I was happy to go along for the ride! Briana Cole is a talented storyteller and I enjoyed the twists and turns. Deven was a complicated main character, and so was her sister (who we meet throughout in journal entries and flashbacks) - but made them seem all the more real. I recommend this if you love a family thriller focusing on sibling relationships and mystery!
The narrator, Diana Blue, did a fantastic job building suspense and differentiating between characters. Plus, she was super easy to understand at my usual speed of 1.75-2x, which is fantastic!
Meh. I didn't HATE this book. It didn't bore me either. It was just okay. I did guess the ending pretty early on in the book, so it wasn't a shock when I read the outcome. I will say Deven made some pretty terrible choices when it came to men. Red flags everywhere! I think that her obsession with one made her unlikeable to me.
The audio was pretty good. The narration kept the story moving and I liked her accents off and on through each character. I think a lot of people would like this one - but it just wasn't my favorite.
As much as I wanted to love the storyline , I just couldn’t, The back and forth between characters was really confusing. I kept hat to back track since it switched between characters so fast. Everything about the story with the death of her sister and trying to find answers seemed intriguing. For me it just didn’t deliver.
Behind Her Lives by Briana Cole is a wild ride of a book. I loved how the story is unraveled with dual timelines and perspectives, and the overall mystery of everything. I do wish the diary entries would have continued while Kennedy lived with her dad; they could have added so much more to the story.
There were a couple times that I felt annoyed by the decisions Deven made; some of which seemed illogical. I had to suspend reality for the sake of the book. That is, until I figured out what was going on and Deven still didn't have a clue, then I couldn't stop these feelings.
Diana Blue was a pretty good narrator. My biggest complaints are that she takes big, loud breaths that are distracting and not all of the characters have district voices. However, I did enjoy her voice.
Thank you to Tantor Audio for providing me with an ALC.
2,5 rounded up
The beginning of this mystery was gripping, but it dragged on a bit too long to have kept me interested. I think we needed a few more reveals along the way to feel like we were in the mystery with the main character. Devin felt a bit like a doormat, and I didn't understand many of her social interactions - they didn't seem to match her personality.
Wow wow wow. Shocked. Stunned. Literally speechless. This thriller was everything I could have hoped for. The plot twist ending is still blowing my mind! I can usually guess the endings but this one was so out there I had no clue. Absolutely loved this story and will recommend it to everyone.
3.5⭐ rounded up.
Featuring ~ dual 1st & 3rd person POV, dual timeline, suicide references, miscarriage, secrets, lies, drama, step-siblings
Deven thinks she's at the morgue to identify her sisters body, but it turns out not to be her. But where is Kennedy then, if this dead girl is not her. As she investigates her sister's disappearance she slowly starts to realize that maybe she doesn't know her as well as she thought she did. There's the added fact that they're step-siblings, with the same mom and different father's, that causes some drama.
We have the before and present timeline, and childhood diary entries, that keep the story flowing along nicely. I felt invested and wanted to know what was up with Kennedy. I wasn't overly in love with Deven, or many of the characters, but the epilogue was great!
Narrated by Diana Blue for 9 hours and 28 minutes, easy to follow at 2x. She did a nice job.
. I listened to the audiobook version of this and though I was not impressed with the narration, the book itself was pretty good. It took me a while to get into it but once I did, I finished it rather quickly. The only thing I didn’t really like about this book was the ending.
Thank you to net galley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.
Every now and then, I get in the mood for a psychological thriller and this did not disappoint. I really thought I knew what was happening halfway through and I was so very wrong. I love that I was wrong. I was surprised and it made me rethink each interaction knowing what I know now.
Definitely hit the spot.
Thank you Net Galley for an audio ARC of Behind Her Lives by Briana Cole. This is a mystery/ thriller about a woman searching for her sister's truth.
