I wish I could have enjoyed this book more but for me I can only realistically give it 1.75 stars. I even considered dnf’ing a couple of points around the 20/30% mark, but I kept going so I could give a full honest review.

My main issue was with the FMC, Skye. I’ve never known a character (who we’re supposed to like and root for), be so selfish and frustrating and rude. She came across incredibly immature and insecure throughout the entire book, making derogatory comments towards other women for no other reason than they happened to be looking at/speaking to/sitting with Matt, the MMC/love interest. I thought we were past this point of making it a competition between women and calling them skanks and slutbags. I mean seriously, I felt like saying to Skye ‘grow the hell up, you’re 27 years old for crying out loud not a 14 year old bratty teenager’.

I also thought Skye was very unfair to Matt who genuinely did no wrong. Especially at the start in the first few weeks of them meeting, she labelled him a player and assumed he was constantly seeing lots of girls, even though he gave her no actual reason to think that…

Her insecurities came through A LOT in this book, to the point where I genuinely think it would have been a better ending if the character had decided to take a step back from relationships and focus on herself. Then she could work through these insecurities in a healthy way, rather than dragging all these deep seated issues into a relationship.

I’d say the 1.75 stars are for the Canton family business and exploration of familial relationships which, although Skye was again incredibly rude and short with her sisters for no good reason at times, was a nice part to read about. I also did like Matt the MMC who seemed like a genuinely decent guy.

I will admit the classic ‘third act breakup’ did seem a bit like drama for drama’s sake, and it was resolved quite easily.

Also, as a side note, there were quite a few words missing from sentences throughout the book - I’m not sure if it’s just the netgalley edition I was given but these need fixing.

Overall this one wasn’t for me. I do have another of the author’s books as part of this series, but I will definitely give it a go since my main issues with this book surrounded the FMC.

We've all had those moments where you think of the best responses hours after the conversation because you've replayed every cringy minute in your head. No? Just me?

Skye is an introverted introvert who is having an existential crisis on a plane ride home, where she meets seat mate, Matt. To her surprise, he seems interested in her. He has to be a player, right? She is determined not to fall for his game or let him get too close. Solid plan, poorly executed.....

I loved, loved, loved this book. I felt every cringy moment Skye had. Her inner dialogue is brilliant and hilarious! I can't recommend this book enough!!

There is not much to say here but READ THIS BOOK!! It was hilarious and heartwarming and gave me Emily Henry vibes but in a new voice. The characters, the sisters, and the cat were some of my favorite parts.

Thanks to NetGalley for this eARC!

The characters in this story are very easy to like and are well developed. The story lives up to its "Introverted/Extroverted" subtitle and skips over the miscommunication trope, which is so refreshing.

Matthew and Skye have a true meet-cute on an flight together and bond over conspiracies and mutual rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma, while they don't exchange contact info, Matthew follows Skye on Instagram as she is an up and coming artist determined to make it on her own name, and merit to the extent that she never discloses her last name to minimize association with her family corporation, Canton Cards.

Matthew brings out the best in Skye, and she falls fast while also trying to balance her professional and family obligations. There is a bit of an obstacle that impacts their developing relationship but readers will enjoy this up and down race of a story.

"Things I Should Have Said" is the first book in Kelsey Humphreys' "Heartlanders" series. This is the first book of Humphreys' that I have read, but it won't be the last! Skye and Matthew have a meet-cute while she's suffering from a panic attack during a turbulent flight. However, they soon lose track of each other until their paths meet again. Skye is pretending to be happy in a good-as-dead relationship, but the sparks that fly between her and Matthew make her realize that maybe she's settling for less than she deserves. I really enjoyed how charming yet genuine Matthew was, and the mishaps that always occur when Skye is near were so funny! I was rooting for them the whole time, and enjoyed the progression of their relationship.

This was a cute and sweet romance, and I look forward to the next book by Humpreys. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

My first time reading Kelsey Humphreys, thanks so much to Netgalley for introducing me to this author!
It was a delightful read, loved the introvert/extrovert match up. The female main character’s anxiety was something I really connected with and the male main character was so sweet and really worked to understand and support her.
Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a romcom to dive into. I laughed, I felt seen, and fell in love with a great book boyfriend!
4.5 stars!

Things I Should Have Said is called an introvert/extrovert and reverse grumpy sunshine but it just feels a little off. I don’t think Skye is so much an introvert and maybe more of a jerk, she says hurtful things and brushes them off; honestly her sisters are so patient and nice with her. I didn’t understand her as a character as much as I hoped since I identify so much with anxiety and social anxiety as well. Matt seemed lovely and nice and her sisters are great.

I absolutely loved this book. It hooked me and kept me turning pages until I was done. Finished it in two days! The character development was strong, and the premise was unique enough that it didn't feel like anything else I've read.

Skye is an introvert and when boarding for her flight back to New York City she hopes no one talks to her. When the turbulence begins, she relies on the handsome man next to her to keep her calm. Matthew is a successful tech guy, an extrovert, and surrounds himself with friends and colleagues.. I loved this book being an introvert myself i could relate so much about not liking small talk and hating having to talk to someone because you're sat next to them. Her inner thoughts were hilarious. I can't recommend this book enough!!

Opposites attract! Skye is an introverted artist, Matt is an extroverted tech type. This story worked because the characters were well developed, and likeable.

Can't wait to read more from this author!

Thank you Netgalley and Magnamour for the ARC!

I was expecting a typical romantic comedy when I picked up this book, but I was blown away by all of the issues that Skye faced. She was actually depicted as a real life person who had a real life problems. As a real life introvert myself, I could relate to a lot of what she was feeling. I could make that connection. It was amazing to see the journey that Skye went on throughout this book and how she fought to get where she ended up at the end. Was she perfect? Of course not. But the author understood the character and that was what was important.

'Things I Should Have Said' by Kelsey Humphreys is biled as an 'introvert/extrovert romantic comedy' but I don't think that does it justice.

Skye is an introverted artist, determined to do things independently of her wealthy father, who owns the family business, a greeting card company. She lives in New York, away from Oklahoma where her family lives. With Skye also comes her sisters (ostensibly this book is the first of a series featuring her sisters).

She meets Matt, loosely billed as an extrovert corporate tech type while on a plane home. From then on she keeps bumping into him, and despite her attraction, keeps fighting it, because she thinks she's got him worked out all based on her past bad experiences.

The two of them sparkle with an energy and some of their dialogue was one of the highlights for me, as they slowly open up to each other with their various issues. Matt is a supportive guy, showing her what a healthy relationship can be. Of course Skye makes her mistakes but they're so relatable. WHile I just knew what was coming, I was pleasantly surprised Kelsey Humphreys resolved it in a satisfying way that was true to the characters.

Though at times I did find this book take a while to get its groove for me, I thoroughly enjoyed this one and am looking forward to her older sister's book - the one who runs the family business.

Skye meets Matt on a bumpy plane ride. Talk about a rom-com meet cute first scene! These two can’t be any more different. She is not looking for love, but the universe seem to have a different plan for her.

Storyline was written beautifully. Well crafted. Had lots of oozing charm and a fun vibe.
I found myself giggling a few times in an un-lady like manner if I have to confess. By the end of it, it just left me with a feel good aftermath.

This one was a great portrayal of the dynamics one can expect in an extrovert-introvert relationship. I loved seeing the contrast between the MCs with their two opposing personalities and how they invested to make their relationship work despite the challenges they stumbled across.

I adored Skye’s clumsiness and inner monologues. Matt was such a sweetheart. Doting, fun, and respectful. He truly appreciated her as she is. The author brilliantly managed to portray a healthy relationship by giving value and worth to Skye’s insecurities & anxiety and allowing Matt to be his outgoing self without feeling guilty.

The sisters clan .. sincerely the best! I looked forward to reading more and more of their back and forth messaging embedded throughout the story. Completely hooked. The bickers. The jokes. The comebacks. Hilarious!

This is my first read of the author and let me tell you, it ain’t going to be my last. I’m already hyped up to read Sam’s story. Predicting another marvelous read.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read ARC of this book.

Skye and Matthew meet on a plane - a great meet-cute according to Skye's sister. Will she give him a chance or run from him, especially when she finds out the secret he is keeping. I loved that the last chapter was from Matthews point of view.
Can't wait for the rest of this series.

From the start this book had me laughing out loud. I thought that Matt was great and I really enjoyed Skye, but did get a little sick of her clumsiness after a while. I enjoyed the fun banter and thought that the grand gesture was so sweet! I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.

This is a first time read for me by this author and I really enjoyed. It is such a sweet and cute story with a lot of wit charm. I especially enjoyed it because I connected.so much with Skye, being an introvert myself. Skye and Matt meet on a plane and instantly hit it off. I think the author really nailed it with Skye's character because I've found myself with similar thoughts and feelings. While Skye needs her alone time to get it together and focus, Matt is one who likes being around people. Although two completely opposite personalities, I liked the way these two came together and really clicked. They certainly had their challenges to work through, but I enjoyed following them on their journey. They were such a cute couple and worked so well together.
The story was fun, full of laughs and I had a great time reading it. The characters were well-developed and I fell in love with them from the start. The story left me with a happy feeling and a smile on my face and I am very glad to have had the opportunity to read it.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Great romance full of funny parts thanks to Skye's relatability. The blurb definitely makes a bigger deal out of Skye being an introvert than needed, she wasn't overly shy, her awkwardness just made her likeable.

Oh my goodness! Kelsey Humphreys- where have you been all my life?!

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the arc and the new obsession.

I honestly requested Things I Should Have Said purely based off the cover. It’s adorable. And now I can confirm the contents are even more adorable. I also began following Kelsey on Instagram and she’s fun & sassy. I’ve found a new author to add to my “auto read” and am thrilled!

Skye is an artist, attempting to make it on her own without the influence of her famous family. She also is quite anxious and has been through some serious things that ruined how she saw herself. She meets Matt on an airplane as her anxiety is at its peak during turbulence. Her pursued her a bit even though she had a boyfriend. She begins to see her value through his persistence.

Matt is the gem of all gems. Omg. He is what dreams are made of. He’s doting and loyal, thoughtful and respectful, fun and outgoing. My goodness Kelsey “painted” the picture of dream guy in creating him!

Of course we follow Skye as she battles her family, her fame, her family business, etc. we learn more about her and her sisters along the way. And we continue to swoon over Matt.

I couldn’t put this book down. I read it so fast, stayed up way too late and ignored my family. I was completely hooked. I love reading about someone with anxiety as I battle with that myself. It’s gotten worse for me over the years and I wonder how I’d be accepted if I were still dating. Matt saw her anxiety as part of her personality and not as a flaw.

I’ve already NetGalley downloaded Kelsey’s Things I Overshaded which is Skye’s sister Sam’s story! And Kelsey provided a free download of Things I Always Wanted. I can r get enough of this family or Kelsey’s writing! I’ll most likely being ignoring my TBR to continue this series! Bravo!!
