Another page turner from the imaginative mind of Robert Bryndza! Private detectives Kate and Tristan take on a missing child case that was thought to have been resolved eleven years prior. As always, the story had me guessing up to the end. The author is so skilled at creating twists and turns, he is one of my top favorites of this genre. I hope we won't have to wait long for the next installment.
Thanks to Raven Street and NetGalley for the advanced copy!
This had a good, but predictable plot that was a bit too slow-moving for me. I enjoyed earlier works from this author much more. I had a bit of trouble staying focused on this book and guessed the big ending. It was fine, but if this had been the first book I had read by this author I would not have bothered with any other works, which would have been a shame.
Another Kate Foster book by Robert Bryndza, which I have been waiting for!
As always with books by this author, I was intrigued, gripped and excited by this book. I definitely recommend it.
Whilst it is part of a series, it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel, but why not treat yourselves and read the others?!
Three-year-old Charlie disappeared from a tent in Dartmour Nat’l Park just after three o’clock in the morning. His mother, Jean, had just stepped out for a cigarette and Charlie was quietly sleeping in the tent. Searching everywhere resulted in no clues.
The local constabulary and a myriad of volunteer searchers can find no trace of the boy. Eleven years later Jean is still sick at heart over the failure to find her boy.
Jean pays a fledgling detective agency a retainer and explains the entire story. Kate Marshall, a former detective with the police department, and her associate Tristen Harper are assigned the task of finding out what happened to Charlie. The trail is past cold and the clues meager. Can they find the missing boy?
The author writes an engaging tale of the loss of an only child. Ineptitude by the local police department added to the mother’s frustration. This story points out the frustration that anyone who has a missing child would face.
I read and greatly enjoyed Darkness Falls last November. Although this narrative is compelling, it tends to redundancy and slows the pace somewhat. 4 stars – CE Williams
My first foray into a Kate Marshall story! Running her relatively newly formed detective agency with young assistant Tristan Kate goes out for her usual early morning swim in the sea only to be caught up in a rip tide. Luckily she is rescued by two surfers and finds herself in hospital in a bed next to Jean, a lady who lost her grandson ten years ago - can Kate help find him? Jean has had Charlie pronounced dead but now feels he is still alive! Not having read any of these books before I would have liked a little more meat on the bones of the main characters! I wanted to know what Kate and Tristan looked like and a little more about their personalities! The story was juicy enough to keep me gripped to the end but lacked a little soul for me!
Brilliant book in the Kate Marshall series. Recovering in hospital leads Kate to her next job as a private detective. Gripping, great characters; I love these books!
This was an intriguing, fast-paced read that drew me in from the first page when Kate is almost killed by a deadly riptide on her regular early morning sea swim. When she’s recovering in hospital Kate meets a woman whose grandson disappeared years earlier and reluctantly ends up, with her investigative partner Tristan, trying to discover the truth of what happened to Charlie. I’ve read one of this series before and need to go back and read the others now!
Devil's Way by Robert Bryndza (Detective Kate Marshall Thriller) - book review. Rating: 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Robert Bryndza has written an amazing and stunning thriller. It's a terrific mind-bending mystery. My attention was captured from the first chapter until the very end. This story is full of action, and I enjoyed every minute of the plot.
Synopsis:
During a hospital stay, Detective Kate Marshall meets Jean, an older woman on the same ward. Jean tells Kate that on a camping trip on Dartmoor eleven years ago, Jean's three-year-old grandson Charlie disappeared.
When Kate is released from the hospital she agrees to look into Charlie's case. Was Charlie kidnapped? Could he have drowned in Devil's Way, the nearby rushing river that flows into a gorge near where they camped?
Devil's Way book will be available on January 12th.
Thank you NetGalley and Raven Street Publishing for sharing this exciting book with me. This novel is compelling and very well written. Congratulations Robert Bryndza!

I have read previous Robert Bryndza books with Erika Foster as the lead, this is the first book I have read involving Kate Marshall, even though this is the fourth in the series.
Kate Marshall, private investigator, loves a daily wild swim, off the coast where she lives, unfortunately, this time she is caught in a riptide but is luckily rescued by two surfers. Kate is taken to the hospital to be checked over. Whilst there she starts chatting with the lady opposite, Jean Julings who wants to hire Kate to search for her missing grandson, Charlie, who disappeared 11 years ago at the age of 3 while on a camping trip with his parents and grandmother.
An intriguing book, well written and very atmospheric. Highly recommended
A crime thriller set in the stunning area of Dartmoor. PI Kate Marshall hates to feel vulnerable and not in full control but this is exactly how she feels after nearly drowning in a riptide. She is taken to hospital where the patient in the next bed asked her to help solve the case of her grandsons disappearance 11 years earlier. It is a brilliant read which I thoroughly enjoyed
This is the second book of Robert’ Kate Marshall series that I received on netgalley for review. And I am thankful to Raven publishers for that.
This is a real fast page turner in line with his earlier books. The story builds up nice with seemingly disconnected threads all coming together slowly but steadily. Only towards the latter half of the book could i guess what might have happened with Charlie.
In some ways its good to be able to figure out and feel nice about it but then wondering if the story is then awesome. In my mind it still beats suddenly being thrown something through weird connections which seem far fetched!
Therefore I absolutely loved the book and the ending. And recommend it heartily to all lovers of thrills 👍🏼
After Kate’s accident lands her in the hospital, she meets another patient, Jean, who tells Kate about how her grandson went missing eleven years ago.
When Kate gets out of the hospital, she and her partner set out to try to figure out what happened to Charlie.
The more Kate and Tristan dig, the more questions they have. Did Charlie really fall into the river while camping or did something more sinister happen?

A brilliant thriller with a really different angle reminiscent of a really good crime tv show episode . The build up is consistent and the story very well crafted, so probable it makes it even more terrifying. A very atmospheric read with authentic characters flawed and multi layered which makes this novel a definite must read.
When Kate has a accident that ends her up in the hospital she happens to meet Jean a grandmother who grandson Charlie has been missing going on 13 years now and Jean believes he’s still alive. So Kate being a private investigator tells Jean she will take the case. But soon after Kate and Tristan her partner learn more information about Jean and her daughter and Charlie and that where this story takes you on some really big twists and turns. This is the fourth book in the Kate Marshall investigations but can be read as a Stand-alone. This is my first time reading this author but definitely will not be my last Thank you @netgalley for letting me read this for my review.
robert bryndza never disappoints! a favours fourth instalment of the kate marshall series - and it keeps getting better and better!
I’ve not read anything by this author before, but I’ll be looking out for his name now. I liked the pairing of Kate, ex- police officer turned Private Eye with Tristan, young ex-researcher now partnering Kate. They bounce off each other nicely, with Kates mature view of life balancing nicely with Tristan’s more innocent view. The story is an emotive one, as anything involving the loss of a child always is. This felt very realistic, from the depth of the distress of the child’s family, to the actions of both the PIs and the Police. Often there is no evidence to be found, and in this case especially although mistakes are made, this could so easily be a true story. Excellent read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Taken totally by surprise at the gripping intensity of this storyline. Beginning with a prologue outlining the disappearance of a three year old child; fast forwarding to a decade later when a chance meeting results in the recruitment of a private investigator to investigate the cold case related to the unsolved mystery. The chief protagonist, Kate Marshall , ex police officer, struggling with her own demons, and against all past experience , commences a long laborious search for witnesses, evidence and clues which could shed insight on the case. Intuition strongly leads her along a nebulous path where nothing is as it appears. A gripping conclusion leaves the reader understanding but struggling to accept the emotional and traumatic consequences for all involved in this tragedy, both the innocent and the guilty. Many thanks to author ,(a new fan looking for his previous books) publisher and Netgalley for this thoroughly enjoyable ARC .
Really good storyline, with an interesting start. The way the plot unraveled was very interesting and just flowed. It was a very easy read and quite a page turner. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Although it is the latest in a series it can be read as a stand alone.
The fourth book in this amazing series is Devils way. Follows the investigations of Kate and Tristren, as they to track down a child who disappeared 11 years ago., at the age of 3
All the twists and turns you could need in this expertly woven plot. As the characters are further developed. You could easily read as a standalone, but why would you? I strongly suggest you read all 4.
The author paints such amazing pictures with his words, you really feel part of the beautiful scenery.
Thanks to Netgalley and Raven Street publishing for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review
One thing I’ve discovered, Robert Bryndza can write a novel that will leave you shaken and breathless.
Devil’s Way did not disappoint.
When a 3 year old boy named Charlie on a camping trip disappeared, the stars were aligned that night that affected more than just his family’s lives.
Now come along with new PI’s Kate and Tristan on the very nerve wracking, leave no stone unturned story, to discover what happened on the Devil’s Way.
You better bring a flashlight!
