I once again am going into a series out-of-order, but despite doing so, Killer in the Kitchen did not disappoint! Our protagonist, Helen, is delightful and relatable. She's so down-to-earth but successful, kind, and independent, the type of woman you'd want to have your back. The other characters are also nicely fleshed out, with intricate personalities. All are flawed, but you can't help but love them.

One thing I disliked was how obvious the ending was. Personally, I saw all the foreshadowed clues for what they were, making the ending somewhat lacking. However, the multidimensional and relatable characters make up for the guessable plot, and I can't wait to read the next one in this series.

Amateur sleuth Helen Morrisey, a real estate agent, follows the lead of several fictional female crime solvers as she investigates the death of a shopping network celebrity chef who died while on camera with Helen's daughter, who is in her own right a shopping television sensation. Throughout book two in the Chesapeake Bay series, Helen relies on Nancy Drew, Jane Marple, Agatha Raisin, and Jessica Fletcher to give her advice. The novel can be read as a stand alone book but has all the elements of the amateur sleuth genre.

Murder is on the menu -
A celebrity chef poisoned
A bay town reeling
A sleuth pursued
The author has a great gift for characterisation - nuanced, interesting, believable people. Thanks to a great author we have a great murder mystery.

A good story with interesting characters. The setting is fabulous with water views, tasty menus and unexpected death. It is pretty cool to have a big home shopping network right in the same town that Helen and her club live. Helen's daughter works at the network and is there when a famous chef dies in her arms. Not sure how Helen maintains a relationship with Joe. He is the detective working on the murder. Helen is butting in. I like the side stories that comes out as the suspects are interviewed. Yes there is murder but I found the story fun to read.

Killer in the Kitchen is another cozy romantic suspense that succeeds grabbed my attention this year. Following a realtor who doing investigated poisoned mystery of a celebrity chef. I found the writing is good, the story is intriguing but easy enough to follow. Both MCs is well developed, loveable and flesh out. I am feel connected and the engaging with their relationship growth. I enjoyed spent my time with Helen and Joe.
This book is the 2nd in the series and make want to grab another book in the series.

This book was ok a good read. Not my favorite read of the year. There are some grammatical errors but nothing that takes away too much from reading the book. Overall, a quick thriller and easy read.

I think I read other books by this author but I couldn't connect to this one and it didn't keep my attention.
it's one of those me-not-the-book-case
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

I really wanted to like this book. I love this particular genre and I found many things included in the book summary that appealed to me, but alas, I didn't. I struggled to get past the "voices" in the main characters head. It all seemed a bit silly to me. I have no doubt there are many that would enjoy this book, unfortunately, I am not one of them.

Clues Aplenty…
The second Chesapeake Bay mystery finds murder most foul top billing as a celebrity chef is found slaughtered in his on screen kitchen. Will the sleuths of the Detection Club be able to get to the bottom of the case before more bodies pile? A fun and frothy mystery with a cast of well drawn and eccentric characters, clues aplenty, a smattering of romance and a plot peppered with red herrings.

Although I enjoyed the characters and plot I don't think the Detective Club ads anything at all to the development and just seems silly
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc

I really enjoyed this book by this 'new-to-me' author. Cooking, shopping and murder added up to a book that I didn't want to put down. Helen's 'Detection Club' and their advice is a fun side to this book.

The characters are fairly relatable with interesting relationships. I felt like I really backstage on a shopping channel's set.

I plan to read the first book in the series while I wait for the next one.

Killer in the Kitchen is the second book in Judy L. Murray’s Chesapeake Bay Mystery series. I thoroughly enjoyed Murder in the Master, the first book in the series, as well as this one. Helen Morrissey, the protagonist in Murray’s first book, returns in Killer in the Kitchen, along with her budding love interest Detective Joe McAlister. Helen is a successful real estate agent who has a passion for Twizzlers and mystery novels. She’s the kind of woman to whom readers can definitely relate. She’s down-to-earth, the mother of two adult children, independent, and, in general, the kind of woman I wouldn’t mind having as a best friend.

The plot involves Helen’s daughter, Lizzie Morrissey, who appears on a TV show with celebrity chef Roberto Barto. Roberto owns a lavish home which he decides to put on the market at which time Helen enters the picture. Unfortunately, before she can sell Roberto’s house, he drops dead while on the air after apparently ingesting an unknown substance.

Despite Joe’s displeasure, Helen begins snooping, er, investigating. She finds evidence possibly implicating one of Roberto’s colleagues as well as The Mob. In retrospect, the clues are all there but I have to admit that I didn’t see the ending coming. The only other thing I’ll say about the ending is that it was a great one.

One of Murray’s strong points is that she has a gift for creating characters that are interesting, multidimensional, and relatable. Another is that she’s skilled at creating plots that will keep you guessing. I eagerly await the third book in this series.

There are two reasons I was drawn to this book. It had kitchen in the title and it mentioned Chesapeake Bay (which is where my parents are from).

So I started reading this and before I knew it I was finished. Loved it! This is a cosy that had it all and I just couldn't put it down. I love Lizzie and her show, Then there is Roberto the chef and Helen the real estate agent. These characters and their antics is what made this book.

There is intrigue, mystery, secrets and of course murder. It is well written and so easy to read, Very entertaining and fun as well. I loved it and will read more of this authors books in future.

Hopefully this series will attract more readers as it has all the elements for a successful cozy series: an appealing heroine, sense of place, and Intriguing mysteries. Helen Morrissey, a widow with grown twins, is a realtor in the Chesapeake Bay area with intelligence, curiosity and innate sense of right and wrong. As the author also is a long time real estate agent in the same area, there are many insider details grounding the story. A celebrity chef with a show on a tv shopping network signs her to sell his multi-million dollar mansion, but then dies at the end of his next show. Helen's daughter, his co-host, also becomes ill and galvanizes Helen into action. Enlisting her posse of famous female sleuths, Helen offers her assistance to an attractive homicide detective who has the potential to become more than an acquaintance.

An interesting and entertaining book. A famous chef is selling his home and Helen would love the listing. Helen's daughter invites her to meet the chef but when she arrives it's to find him dead and her daughter passed out by him. Lots of red herrings make this book interesting! The characters are good. Great plot and storyline. Will keep you guessing! Thanks #netgallet and #LevelBestBooks for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

Second book in the series, but you don't have to had read the first book to enjoy this one. Light fun cozy solid read; with plentyoftwists and turns. Likable characters, while some of the situations require a level of disbelief, it doesn't take away from the overall enjoyment of the book. While some books can have too many suspects and make it hard to keep track, the author does a great job juggling the right number. It starts off kinda slow, but once it picks up, the story moves pretty fast.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of this book!

Characters: The characters were fine. I'm always a sucker for a mystery about a person becoming an amateur sleuth. I liked the red herrings of the story; they kept everything interesting.

Atmosphere: I love that the murder happened on a cooking show. I love watching cooking shows, so this was interesting.

Writing: The writing was fine.

Plot: I loved the set up, and there were just enough red herrings to keep the story going.

Intrigue: So many things kept coming up that made me wonder what was actually going on. This made for a good cozy murder mystery.

Logic: I'm not sure how logical some of things were, but it made sense most of the time.

Enjoyment: I enjoyed this. Not sure if I would continue if it was made into a series. 3.5/5 stars.

Some of the conversations were a little weird and hard to follow, and the detection club was definitely an interesting choice, but I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I could not put this book down! I need to go back and read the first book!

Helen’s daughter invites her to meet a famous celebrity chef…and Helen is on board! Especially since said chef is going to be selling his home and Helen wants the listing. When Helen arrives on set she finds the chef daed and her daughter passed out beside him.

Seeing her daughter laying there brings out Mamma Bear Helen and she is not going to cave to Joe’s repeated demands for her to stop. To help her figure out what’s going on, Helen calls in her club to help her figure whodunit before her goose is cooked!

Having grown up a Maryland girl, I love books set in the Chesapeake Bay area! Helen is well written and the locations are a little trip home for me in each and every book. The red herrings are plentiful and the mystery is well plotted and keeps you guess until the end. This is a fabulous series for any mystery lover, so grab a pack of Twizzlers and settle in for a great read!
