Spider-Man anything is right up my alley, and this was such a fun read! I don't know much about this version of Spider-Man so this was a neat introduction!
I love superhero stories that showcase diverse heroes and lets them shine. Not being familiar with Anya Corazon in the comics, I'm really happy to see her get a book and hopefully this will have young readers looking for more. To me, there's a little too much going on to be a cohesive storyline--there's Anya and the secret society, there's her mother's disappearance, there's time traveling, there's Miguel's issues, there's a vampire, there's another villain, there's a mysterious artefact, there's Ghost Spider, there's more time traveling, there's just a bunch going on in a short book
As someone who loves Arana, this was a very fun read! However, it feels, sadly, like the second installment in a series, rather than the first/a standalone. There was very little getting to know who Anya was, how she got her powers, what exactly is putting her in these situations, etc, to begin with. Otherwise, very fun, and I hope this brings more young readers to her character
Alexa Segura leads the reader into a prose exploration of the comics world. Perfect for fans, although newcomers to these characters might be a bit lost and have to do some background reading (not a bad activity to engage in, anyway). As a Spider-Man 2099 fan, this book was most enjoyable.
Alex Segura’s Araña and Spider-Man 2099: Dark Tomorrow is a fun story. It’s always interesting to watch the younger hero bring the older hero back to life. Anya’s spirit is strong and she’s funny to read. The story is good and self-contained but with enough left on the table to return to in the future.
Spider-Man fans will love seeing a couple of lesser-known iterations of their favorite hero. New readers will enjoy Anya’s kind personality and snappy reactions. She’s a quintessential teenager but in the best way, with all energy, hope, and sass. I would definitely say this is worth picking up when it comes out on February 7th.

I am not a huge Spider-Man fan, and I was only vaguely aware of the Spider-Man-adjacent characters this book focuses on, Araña and Spider-Man 2099. Fortunately, a background knowledge of the Spider-Verse is not necessary to enjoying this book although it would probably add to the experience. Anya is a relatable young hero that I think my students will enjoy reading about.
Thank you, Disney Publishing Worldwide, Marvel Press, for allowing me to read Araña and Spider-Man 2099: Dark Tomorrow early!
The Spider-Verse has numerous characters in it and I wasn't aware of either one featured in this novel as my knowledge is pretty basic regarding Spiderman, but nonetheless I am quite happy to have discovered about them through prose because sometimes it helps flesh out characters better. And I think this book is a perfect example.
