I did not realize this was the third book in this series but it didn’t matter. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This author has a great way with words and a wicked sense of humor.
Darynda Jones is fantastic. I didn't realize I never wrote a review for this, but I enjoyed the book very much and the audio version is also laugh out loud funny!!
I went into this book blind having not read the first two books.. This was a fun book and I'll probably look for the first part of the series. The cover was what caught my eye as I haven't read anything else from this author.
An enjoyable listen for sure!
Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC of this book!
Well, all good things come to an end, and that certainly is the case with this third book in the Sunshine Vicram trilogy by Darynda Jones. Books #1 and #2, A Bad Day for Sunshine and A Good Day for Chardonnay, were truly enjoyable reads, and this third book, A Hard Day for a Hangover is just as good, if not better than the first two installments.
With several women having gone missing in the small town where Sunshine Vicram is sheriff, she is definitely being kept on her toes. Auri, her teen daughter, always seems to manage to get into as much trouble as Sunshine. Then Sunshine is trying hard to hang on to heartthrob and lifelong crush, Levi, but he currently has his agenda going on.
With both Sunshine and Auri investigating here latest case, albeit completely differently, some facts are starting to be revealed that level up the danger in the small town Sunshine was certain would be rather quiet. Quiet is laughable to be sure, and that is just the tone for these three books in this delightful series. While the cases are serious, there is a light tone to each of the stories, and with Sunshine's sarcastic attitude and Auri's rather obstinate behavior, this is a book sure to make the reader smile.
Meanwhile, Levi and his family are having trouble on a grand scale, and this will no doubt impact the growing relationship between him and Sunshine. Daryinda Jones has written a truly enjoyable series, and does a fine job wrapping it up with this third book. In fact, several character arcs are handled perfectly, bringing this series to a satisfying end.
Was not my favorite in the Sunshine series but was glad I read As overall, I really Enjoyed the series and was glad I read It.
I read this because I was curious about how the series would wrap up, but wasn’t super invested in the mystery.
Narration: Excellent casting.
Thanks to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the chance to review.
Ms. Jones delivers again! I enjoyed the characters and the plot. Narration was spot on. Sunshine is my latest hero.
Darynda Jones never disappoints with character development. I am a huge fan of hers and so when I had the opportunity to review this ARC I jumped at the chance. Her work is always a mix of equal parts fun and seriousness, with a signature self-deprecation and dry wit that comes through even the most affable characters. I thought the setting and premise in this one was a bit below the standard I set for her personally, so I didn't give it the full five stars. I was left wanting more but couldn't put my finger on exactly why and the only thing I can think of is the world and plot seemed less nuanced then the other books I'd read from her. That being said, if you are looking for an engaging, immersive and quick read for lazy beach or poolside reading, give this one a try! as always, thank you very much to NetGalley, MacMillan Audio and Darynda Jones for the opportunity to give this a read and a review! I look forward to seeing more from her on here
4.5 out of 5. I loved this and can’t wait for the next one. The audio narrator is PHENOMENAL! I can’t wait to see what trouble Auri and Sun get into next time and I look forward to seeing the shenanigans in Del Sol.
A Hard Day for a Hangover by Darynda Jones, is a story about Sunshine Vicram a newly elected sheriff in a small New Mexico city. Coming into work one day with a tequila hangover starts out with a girl young girl found in canyon, finds out there seems to be a string of these girls getting beat up and left on the outskirts of town. Sunshine's 15 yr old daughter Auri is an apple that doesn't fall far from her mother's tree, gets wind of the story of the girl found and does some investigating of her own. There is Levi who Sunshine has loved since she was about 16 yrs old.
This story had great action, mystery, and very witty. I could see myself fitting in very well in this town. Love the small town story with good vs evil theme to it. I didn't know it was trilogy going into it and I have already looking for the 1st 2 books. Also rated this 5 stars, because I want more of the small town Del Sol.
Thank you St. Martin's press for the free audiobook for my honest review.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* read all the books in this series so far and though it is a bit too much romance for my liking i like the humor and characters enough to read it anyway, good, fun mystery book!
A great installment in this fun series. I have listened to every one and the narrator really is perfect. It's action packed and laugh out loud funny. I especially love the funny quotes that open the chapters.
The author does an outstanding job catching the reader up in the prior books. So although this book can be read on its own, it's better to have read the prior books.
Sheriff Sunshine Vicram overindulged and has a tequila hangover, which she thinks is going cause her to have a bad day. Little does she know, that will be the least of her problems! A young woman is found injured on the side of a mountain, lucky to be alive. It seems she was assaulted and then pitched over the side of the cliff above. Sheriff Sunshine and her team are on the case, and soon realize this is not an isolated incident. They work to find clues to what is happening in their town. On top of the crime investigation, there is also a threat on Levi Ravinder's life. He comes from a family of shady characters and it seems one of them may want to remove him from the family.
Auri, Sunshine’s teenage daughter, likes to go off and do her own investigating, despite her mother trying to stop her. This often leads to Auri and her friends in sticky situations. On the backburner, there is a hint of romance between Sunshine and Levi, which truly I’d like to have seen more of. A mystery, mixed with humor and some romance, made for an enjoyable read. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC in exchange for my honest review!
For all fans of Stephanie Plum who need a fix between books, this book series gives us sheriff Sunshine Vikram and her precocious pistol of a daughter, Aurora. I can't say enough great things about this series. It's saucy and irreverent and warm -- with a huge dose of humor. It deals with trauma in a loving way and gives us an unconventional family that circles the wagons when they need to and embraces each other because of, not in spite of, their flaws. I love them all and I can't wait for more installments of this series!
With the same narrator as the Stephanie Plum series, I was hooked from the start. It was like visiting with an old and dear friend, who had a new story to tell me. The characters are distinct and lovely, and the voice acting reflects the tone and emotion of each one of them. Amazing job!
A Hard Day for a Hangover it the third and final book in the Sunshine Vicram series. In this book, a young woman is found beaten and left for dead at the bottom of a canyon in Del Sol, New Mexico. Fortunately for her, a hunter found her in time and she in the hospital recovering. She is unidentified, and the police need to find out who she is, and what happened to her. As the investigation continues, it becomes apparent that the person who tried to kill her is also responsible for the disappearance of other women over the years. Auri, Sunshine's daughter, is recovering from her activities in the last book, but she begins her own investigation which could once again put her in danger. While all this is going on, there is an escaped convict in town, one that Sunshine is being blamed for, and Auri's father wants a part in her life. Sunshine has a lot on her plate, is up to the task? Can she stop the killer before Auri becomes the next victim?
Sunshine and Deputy Quincy make a wonderful one-two punch in the Sheriff's office and work diligently to solve the crime. Because of the teenage victim, Auri is in a great place to figure out who she is, so begins her own investigation. I love her intellect and tenacity, but as a mom, do not love how she puts herself in danger. There is romance for both Sunshine and Auri in this book which is smoothly incorporated into the mystery and police investigation. As always the quirky secret society of senior citizens who police the town incognito throw in their two cents worth, which adds more pieces to the puzzle that Sunshine has to unravel. Throw in a side story about Levi Ravinder and his family trying to take over his business, his uncle who has escaped from prison and the secret that Sunshine dropped in his lap in the last book, and there is a lot happening here. Darynda Jones does a great job weaving all this together into an entertaining story and a clever mystery. As I finished this book, I liked how all the loose ends were tied together, but I am sad to say good-bye to all the wonderful characters I have met in this series. I did a read/listen with this book, enjoying the narration by Lorelei King. She uses voices to give personality to the characters and her tone and expression gives emotion to the characters adding to my enjoyment. I liked both formats, but of course, the audio brings the story to life for me. If you enjoy a fun mystery, with some romance and some humour, then this book is for you.
I'm a huge fan of Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series, so was very interested in the Sunshine Vicram series when it was published. I was not disappointed, and this book was an excellent addition (and sadly, apparently the conclusion) to this trilogy. Jones writes with humor and heart, creating wonderful characters and relationships between those characters. And while she's at it, she comes up with some pretty interesting mysteries as well. If you like quirky characters, snarky humor, great relationships, all with a little sexy time thrown in, this trilogy is for you. I'm just sad to see it end.
By the way - I highly recommend listening to Darynda Jones' books, at least this series and her Charley Davidson series. Lorelei King's narration is the perfect complement to Jones' words.

"If Scooby Doo taught us nothing else, it's that real monsters are always human - Sign at Del Sol County Sheriff Station"
This is the third installation in the Sunshine Vicram Series and even though I didn't read the first two books, I still was able to jump into the action and take it as a standalone read. Set in Del Sol, New Mexico, the sheriff is tasked with solving a series of disappearances that take her, her family, and her friends for a wild ride.
It is an easy listen turned very binge-able audiobook filled with spice, snark, and by the halfway point semi-predictable suspense. It was like watching CSI Miami but with more female leads. With this book, you get all the pointed detective jargon ending scenes with a warmer connection to the family of characters. Would recommend it to mystery lovers looking for a beach read and of course anyone already invested in these characters.
3.5 stars
A Hard Day for a Hangover by Darynda Jones is the last book in the Sunshine Vicrum series and I'm sad to see it end. Filled with humor, mysteries, and a mother-daughter relationship to rival The Gilmore Girls, I'm sad to say this is the last book in the trilogy. This book is my favorite in the series because Sunshine is up to her old antics and her daughter Auri is a more aggressive amateur sleuth which can get her in trouble sometimes. I especially enjoy the saying at the beginning of each chapter which is classic Darynda Jones. This trilogy is officially one of my favorite series and I plan to read them over and over again.
I received a review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
All Hail Darynda Jones and her Witty and hilarious Books!! I have enjoyed all the titles I have read by her and look forward to more!!! Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC!
I didn’t realize this was a series, and I didn’t feel confused or lost at all! I enjoyed the characters and storyline.
