A Hard Day for a Hangover (Sunshine Vicrum #3) by Darynda Jones
I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator does an excellent job with the voices, and brings the book to life. This story was witty, had some entertaining and snarky banter, and plenty of humor. I hadn’t read the first two novels of this series, and there were moments where I felt something more had happened in the past, or I had missed something, but it was good nonetheless. The book was a fast read, and the various mysteries all came together in the end.
Many thanks to Darynda Jones, NetGalley, and Macmillan Audio for the advanced audio version in exchange for an honest review.
A fabulous ending to a fabulous series! As usual I hated to see it end and want more! Sunshine and the gang are another great cast of characters and even though I know this is supposed to be the last book, I’m hoping for more! Loved it!
I really enjoyed A Hard Day For A Hangover. From the characters to the various mysteries, it was an entertaining and fast paced story. I didn't read the first two novels of this series, and there were moments where I felt something more had happened, but I appreciated the author giving just enough background without revisiting the past too much. I loved the dialogue between all the characters and appreciated the relationships between each and every one of them. I was rooting for Sunshine and her family, friends, and co-workers the whole time. I liked that everyone was smart and worked together. I really liked that everything moved along quickly and also how the various mysteries came together in the end. The narration was great as well. If you are looking for a fun, entertaining, sometimes slightly silly but enjoyable read, this is a great book.

GAH! This series! First let me cry for a moment because HOW IS THIS THE END?!?!?! But in less ranty thoughts: This was just as great on audio as it was on the page. Lorelei King never fails to bring a story to life for me. She’s such an excellent narrator. Darynda has weaved together a perfect tale of family love (blood and chosen), mystery, comedy, and drama.
<spoiler> I really want to see how Levi and Sunshine get on as family and navigate their relationship and that little spitfire they made. Maybe we can get a novella one day????</spoiler>
I just couldn’t get interested in the book although I enjoyed the Charlie Davidson series by this author and I read the first book in this series. The narrator, Lorelei King, was excellent as always. Maybe my tastes have just changed.
When it comes to this series Darynda Jones can do no wrong in my book. I love these characters, I love the story and the crazy, funny messes they get themselves into overlayed with the serious storylines. More than anything else, I love love love the dialogue in this book. Inner and outer. I laughed out loud the whole time I was listening to this book. It's perfect on audio! Absolutely adore it and I really hope there are more of them in the series.
with gratitude to netgalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
Some books make the most entertaining audiobooks.
This was a lot of fun, and not surprising I binged it in just two days.
Small town Arizona, really great character cast (main and supporting), snarky and witty writing, intrigue/suspense and romance.
All of it makes for a great read. Can't wait to read the next book.
Once again I absolutely love this series and it just keeps getting better, with so much going it was a book I devoured listening it one sitting.. its great paced and very funny, I loved the character development; it is perfect!
I'm once again counting down the days til the next and already missing the quirky town and all the characters.
Looking forward to the next book
The Sunshine Vicram series just makes me so happy. Right off the bat, each chapter starting out with some witty sign, a funny tshirt, or hilariously relatable diary entry sets the tone for ridiculous adventures that the city of Del Sol provides. You know as soon as the gift basket is delivered that something bad is about to happen!
I love in this book that we FINALLY got to see the “reveal” of the past relationship with Sunshine and Levi (& Ari 🥰) I think we already knew it but finally having it out in the open made me so happy! The slow burn relationship came to & we love them together!
As always the mystery isn’t just one layer, but multiple layers with tons of mysteries to solve! I know this is the final book in the series but I need more Sunshine & the gang in my life 😫
This is a review of the audiobook. Book #3 of Sunshine Vicram series, A Hard Day for a Hangover, does not disappoint. I love the relationship between Sunshine and her daughter Aurora. It reminds me a lot of the Gilmore Girls dynamic (actually, the town of Del Sol shares some similarities with Stars Hollow). I really enjoyed the plot and learning more about the characters we met in Books #1 & #2. I won't reveal any spoilers, however, Sunshine and the Del Sol police investigate a series of women gone missing. Auri decides to do some sleuthing of her own. Book #3 also continues the drama of the Ravinder family. I enjoyed the third installment of the series, the writing is witty. The reading of the various signs in the town's stores had me laughing out loud. I hope we haven't heard the last of Del Sol, and its quirky inhabitants!
I received a digital ARC of this novel from the publisher and Macmillan audio through NetGalley. It was my pleasure to listen to this well narrated audiobook!
A fitting conclusion (at least it seemed liked a solid finale) to the Sunshine Vicram romantic suspense mystery series! In this book Sheriff Sunshine has reunited with her high school sweetheart and the father of her teenage daughter, Levi. She also is in charge of tracking down the murderer of a number of young girls. Full of the trademark wit and heart, this newest book did not disappoint! Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!! Recommended for fans of books like Finlay Donovan is killing it.
A HARD DAY FOR A HANGOVER (Sunshine Vicrum #3) by Darynda Jones
I have been a fan or Darynda Jones since I picked up the 1st one I read. She never disappoints. This is the 3rd installment of the Sunshine Vicrum series. The mysteries are piling up and when women start disappearing, Auri is determined to help her mom investigate, without telling her mom. This story has witty, snarky banter, plenty of humor, Levi Ravinder and his wild family, lots of things are happening. I really loved the ending. I listened to the audio version of this book and Lorelei King does a great job with the voices. I give this 5 stars.
I enjoyed the plot of the book, but not as much as I wanted. I know this is the third book in a series, but I was not completely interested in what was going in throughout. I don't think it is because I have not read the other books, I really think the narrator was just not right for the book. They tried to change their voice for different characters, but the dialogue did not seem to flow. I really wanted to like this book because I have enjoyed reading other series by Jones.
I wish that I could give A Hard Day for a Hangover more than five stars. I wish it wasn't the end. I wish that I could read aa new book about Levi, Sunshine, and Auri whenever I need a good laugh or to catch up with an old friend. Not only this latest book, but this series is so good. In fact, "so good" seems like a trite understatement, but it really is. The dialogue is witty and fun, and the characters are so well constructed that they seem like people you actually know, although they seem like they might be slightly dangerous to actually hang out with, particularly the always well intentioned but disaster prone Auri.
Lorelei King has become the voice of Sunshine Vicram for me, and she is absolutely perfect.
I know it's the conclusion to this fantastic trilogy, but I just keep thinking..."Please don't take my Sunshine away..."
Jones has a light touch, leap-off-the-page voice, and a deft hand as she weaves mystery, danger, and humor between her Sheriff and daughter protagonists. Highly recommended for cozy mystery lovers.

Jones has us laughing out loud at the antics of Sunshine Vicram, her family, fellow officers, and the whole Del Sol community. With a brand new case, Sunshine, the sheriff of Del Sol delves into the case along with the mostly unsolicited help of her teenaged daughter Auri. At first with an unconscious victim, there are few clues to go on, but with some deft detective work, the case is soon linked with a few other cold cases. Bringing the perp to justice puts Auri in danger once again. Will Sunny and her deputies get there in time to save her. The ongoing Ravinder case is also coming to a head, will Sunny finally get the answers she needs and get a chance at a happily ever after with her “one and only” Levi Ravinder? Perfectly voiced the third book in the series is just as good as the other two! The back and forth banter is the best and Jones keeps us in stitches throughout. While it looks like things might just be tied up in this one, I’m really hoping for more of Sunshine Vicram … much more❣️
This entire town is just the cutest and I want to live in it! Another fabulous installment in the Sunshine Vicram series, has the usual crazy hijinks you would expect to find. The dialogue had me constantly laughing out loud and the narrator Lorelai King delivers every line to perfection.
I did think it was entirely obvious who was behind the main crime of the book, and kept expecting it to be a red herring, and a big twist to reveal someone else. I can't quite remember if it was as obvious in the first two books. But there are always the little side mysteries which were fun reveals.
I adore this series, and am hoping this isn't the last installment in the series!
I truly enjoy this series, and I think this one is my favorite!
We're back with Sheriff Sunshine who thinks her day will be bad because of a tequila hangover.
But she's in for a surprise.
A hunter finds an injured young lady on the side of a mountain. She was assaulted and it looks like thrown from the cliff above. But she luckily is alive.
After some investigating by Sunshine and her team, it seems this is a pattern of incidents and not the first. They start working to find answers to this mystery.
Also is the underlying treat on Levi Ravinder's life. His family has some shady characters and one of them (or more?) seem to want him out of the picture.
Sunshine’s teenage daughter Auri likes to do her own investigating, and as usual, despite her mother trying to get her to stop, this gets her in hot water.
Mix in the hint of romance between Sunshine and Levi and this is a entertaining book all around.
Many thanks to NetGalley, MacMillan Audio and St. Martin's Press for both an ALC and ARC copy of this gem in exchange for my honest review!
I absolutely love this series. It is definitely comparable to Finlay Donovan in terms of the style - mystery/thriller with lots of humor thrown in. Are there elements that are a bit far-fetched? Yes. Will you roll your eyes a time or two? Yes. But.....it is a fun read with a mystery that keeps me reading to figure out the end. Jones rights great characters, and I love the setting of this series in New Mexico. I love that the author addresses tough topics, but with the injection of humor, the books never feel heavy. I will absolutely continue with the series, and I highly recommend it to many of my reader friends.
Audiobook/Rural Mystery: This is the third book in the Sunshine series. I did read the first two. The book reminds me a lot of the Spellman series where there's a bunch of quirky friends and neighbors. The writing is fine and the mysteries intriguing to a point. I just had a problem with the setting. The daughter is too intellectual mature for her age considering Sunshine is supposed to be the central character. The book is written in third person. The narrator did a good job of getting each person's personality.
