This is book number 4 of the K Team, but can still be read solo, as this was my first in the series. I really enjoyed this one, so I am planning to go back to the beginning. In this story the K team is investigating some cold cases when something stands out.
I enjoyed the interesting characters and humor in this one! It is a fun and light-hearted read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for this advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are my own.
Good Dog, Bad Cop, the third book in the K Team series by David Rosenfelt follows the investigation of a cold case that Cory, his K-9 partner Simon Garfunkle along with the rest of the K Team team, Laurie and Marcus, are working to prove the innocence of an old veteran cop and clear his name of an extramarital affair and a murder-suicide.
The story of the K Team takes the reader on a thrilling ride as the chain of events unfolds, revealing new information about a crime that Cory's old mentor has been accused of. The plot is intelligent and fast-paced, with razor-sharp banter adding to the excitement and suspense of the story.
This ARC book was complimentary…provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
I absolutely loved this book. It's my first k team book and it's just as good as any of the other books I have read or listened to by David Rosenfelt.
The K team is investigating a cold case and one that is of particular interest to Corey. Corey is determined to figure out the truth.
All the characters are so relatable and likeable. The story is fast paced and you just want more of it.
Yet another great read by one of my favorite authors, David Rosenfelt. In this one, the K team are investigating two cold cases, one of a fellow cop and one of a friend. But the more secrets they uncover, the more danger Corey finds himself in. Can they solve the cases before it's too late? I love these books as they are the perfect, quick read in between the heavier books. I actually didn't see the twist at the end coming and I didn't want to put it down. And of course, Simon the dog is by far the best team member. I can't wait for his next book! Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for my copy.
Good Dog, Bad Cop by David Rosenfelt
So I did not realize that Good Dog, Bad Cop by David Rosenfelt was part of a series. I think this is number 4 in the series so starting late, it was a bit confusing on who was who, etc. I still read it and despite not knowing the whole backstory, I did find the book to be entertaining. I especially loved Simon the dog! How could you not?! I'm giving it 3 stars but may change it after reading the other books in the series!
I really like this series and this was a great installment. This was a very interesting investigative story with a bit of humor. Well done.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Good Dog,Bad Cop is a fast paced who submit and is an absolutely great edition to the series. This book was fast paced, well written and thoroughly enjoyable. There are a ton of characters to keep track of so it took me a bit to keep them straight but the story itself is top notch as the team tries to solve multiple cold cases involving a murdered coo and his wife. It was so good I absolutely loved it and I highly recommend it!
Fun title... Great story... I enjoy books where dogs play such an integral part of the story! This is my second read from this author and I look forward to more of his books in the future!
I read every one of Rosenfelt’s do-oriented legal thrillers - and love every one of them. I laugh iut loud and enjoy them immensely, even if they are rather formulaic. But a great formula they are!
Corey Douglas is a retired cop now working as a PI for the Paterson Police department. Working cold cases. One of the cold cases is old mentor Jimmy Dietrich. They claim it was a Murder- suicide and that never set right with Corey. They also start to investigate the killing of a cop Danny Avery. The cold case was complicated and so compelling. The book grabbed me from the beginning and I could not put it down. I really enjoyed the book and I can't wait to read more.
Good Dog, Bad Cop is the enjoyable fourth book in the K Team series by David Rosenfelt. He also is writing the Andy Carpenter series, so this is a spinoff series and is just as enjoyable. In this series we have Corey, Laurie and Marcus working together as private investigators. Quite naturally, Andy appears in this books as well.
Just like the Andy Carpenter series, and the author himself, David Rosenfelt, are full with dogs, these former K-9 dogs in this second series are featured in each book. Although there is serious subject matter at times, these books give me a cozy mystery vibe. Maybe it is because I am a diehard series fanatic and enjoy any connected books as I truly enjoy continuity.
What is great about this book - or any Rosenfelt book - is that you can read any of them as standalones, but why would you want to? Always containing a fabulous mystery to be solved, as well as humor interjected throughout, I loved all four books in this series so far and can't wait to read the next one.
Many thanks to Minotaur Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
The K Team enjoys investigating cold cases for the Paterson Police Department. Corey Douglas, his K-9 partner Simon Garfunkel, Laurie Collins, and Marcus Clark even get to choose which cases they’d like to pursue. When Corey sees the latest list of possibilities, there’s no question which one to look into next. Corey’s former mentor, Jimmy Dietrich, had his whole identity wrapped up in being a cop. When Jimmy retired three years ago, his marriage quickly deteriorated and he tried–and failed—to get back on the force. Jimmy was left to try to adjust to life as a civilian. Not long after, two bodies were pulled from the Passaic River. A local woman, Susan Avery, and Jimmy Dietrich. With no true evidence available, the deaths went unsolved and the case declared cold. This didn’t stop the whispers: an affair gone wrong... a murder-suicide committed by Jimmy. Corey never believed it. With this case, the K Team has the opportunity to find the real murderer, and clear Jimmy’s name. This is a great series and this may be the best of them. All the characters on the K-Team are fun and well written. If you are a dog lover (and even if you aren’t) you will enjoy this story. And then go back and read the entire series! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.
When attorney Andy Carpenter doesn’t have a case in court, his investigative team gets restless. The team consists of Andy’s wife, Lorie, an ex-cop, Sam who is a computer genius, Marcus who is their muscle, Corey, also an ex-cop, and Simon Garfunkle who is Corey’s retired K-9 partner. They call themselves the K Team.
The police department has hired them to look into cold cases – cases that happened years ago, where there are no new clues, and no one was ever convicted of the crime. This time it’s personal.
Jimmy Dietrich was a mentor to a lot of newbie cops, including Corey. When Jimmy retired, he couldn’t stand being off the job. He tried to rejoin the force, but there are rules about that. He drank, split up with his wife (her idea), and tried but failed to be a civilian.
Then two bodies washed up from the Passaic River. One of them was Jimmy, the other Susan Avery. There’d been a case, the case being, Susan’s husband, accused postmortem of being a dirty cop. People thought Jimmy started seeing Susan after that and maybe Susan and Jimmy’s deaths were a murder-suicide, Jimmy being the killer. Corey never believed it.
The biggest problem with cold cases is, even after just a few years, memories fade, people move, die, or just want to forget the whole thing. When cops are involved, dirty or otherwise, that goes double.
This is book four in the spinoff series. Corey is still seeing Denise and is getting comfortable with that, not ready to bolt at the first sign of a relationship. That’s new for him. Simon Garfunkle is a delight as always. Marcus rarely says anything but is a force to be reckoned with — just ask any of the mobsters he’s encountered. Lorie keeps them all in line.
Rosenfelt is a prolific writer with four K-9 Team mysteries, twenty-seven books in the Andy Carpenter series, and non-fiction books as well. His tales always manage to make my Best of List each year.
One of my favorite things about David Rosenfelt’s writing is the way he infuses humor with a realistic mystery. Good Dog, Bad Cop gives us plenty of his trademark witty dialogue and moments of levity throughout.
I love the cast of characters that make up The K Team. Corey and Simon shine here, with most everyone else hanging out in the background until needed for various appearances.
The plot was a stumbling point for me. It’s complex and complicated, veering into convoluted. We have a large cast of characters and lots of moving parts. I felt like I needed a spreadsheet to keep track of the people, their relationships, and their roles in the crimes. This detracted from the whimsy of the group dynamics and my overall enjoyment of the story.
Good Dog, Bad Cop is book 4 in The K Team series, but can be read as a stand alone. The case is wrapped up neatly at the end.
Another great installment of the K-Team! It’s just like visiting old friends. I read all of David Rosenfelt’s books for the characters and to see what they are up to. The crime they are trying to solve is just the icing on the cake.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
David Rosenfelt brings in the K Team again in Good Dog, Bad Cop. Corey Douglas and Simon Garfunkel, his K 9 partner, are investigating the death of a cop and others when the bodies start dropping. Tracing the violence brings in corporate sabotage, crime family involvement and a threat to national security. Put on your seat belt for a rough ride.
This book was a great read. I really thought I knew who th killer was in the middle of the book, however I was wrong. Lots of twists and turns. The characters are relateable.
It's always fun following David Rosenfelt's K Team, featuring ex-cop Laurie Carpenter, Marcus, ex-cop Corey Douglas, and ex-police dog Simon Garfunkel. They investigate cold cases.
This time, they look into the death of Corey's friend and mentor, Jimmy Dietrich. They dig up related murders. Then a hit man goes after Corey.
The K-Team end up with a bunch of puzzle pieces they have trouble fitting together, involving multiple murders and cyber-terrorism.
The K-Team is back and in the middle of a new/old investigation. This time they are involved in two cold cases that they suspect may be interrelated. Laurie, Corey, and the rest of the gang are determined to find out who murdered three people, which included an off-duty police officer and another officer who had been Corey’s mentor when he first joined the force.
The K-team books are a spin-off of David Rosenfelt’s popular series that features Andy Carpenter. Like the Carpenter books, his newer series also includes a dog. He’s a retired police dog, Simon Garfunkel. Since one of the main characters, Laurie, is Andy’s wife, Andy still makes appearances when the K-team is investigating a case. However, in Good Dog, Bad Cop he is mostly a peripheral character.
The K-team has developed into an interesting group of people with great interactions and lots of teamwork. This most recent book has a well-developed and somewhat convoluted plot that held my attention. It’s well-written, with the right touch of humor, and is very enjoyable. I would say Mr Rosenfelt has done it again. Thank you for a most entertaining book.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
This one pulled me in from the start! It was twisted and the plot kept me hooked. It definitely had me turning the pages as I couldn't wait to see how everything played out. I need to read other books by this author.
