I have to start off with how excited I was to see this book in NetGalley and then I got approved to read it. Made my whole week!
And then I started reading it and everything just got better and better. This is a classic Nora Roberts novel and I mean that in all the best ways. The already strong female gets knocked down, but gets back up and is better than before. I loved Morgan and Miles and their families. I love that there’s always a dog, and Howl was adorable.
Thank you to Nora Roberts, NetGalley, and St.Martin’s Press for this ARC. ~I was given this book and made no commitments to leave my opinions, favorable or otherwise~
Identity is another great read from a legend. From page one I felt comfortable, cozy, getting the lay of the land and as she often does – the author turned the story a full 180 degrees - pilling me all the way into the story and living within the pages.
Reading Nora Roberts is such a balm to the soul. Her character development, especially within families, is unmatched. Every character adds to and moves forward the plot. I was in Morgan’s house, I felt Vermont, saw the waterfalls, felt the fear, love, resilience. I loved every second of these strong characters, strong women! I hope to read more of the Jameson family.
I had the opportunity to read Identity by Nora Roberts and absolutely loved it. Morgan Albright is finally living the life she wanted. Her plans are coming together with hard work and sacrifice, but it was worth it for her. When Morgan meets Luke, he intrigues her and they have some fun together. Morgan and her roommate, Nina, decide to plan a dinner date and enjoy themselves. Everything seems perfect for now, until Morgan finds Nina dead and everything changes.
Now Nina is rebuilding her life and finds herself in the last place she ever imagined. She is now in Vermont and finding support she never thought she needed or wanted and a new job she is loving. Enter a new man she never expected but is everything she could want. Meanwhile, Gavin, the man Morgan met as Luke is spiraling and is obsessed with the woman that got away. Time is running out, but she has everything to live for.
This was a classic Nora Roberts’ story full of suspense, lies, murder and intrigue, but also, hope, love, family, friends and so much more. I devoured this story and loved it from start to finish and is why I continue to read her books.
Happy reading!
I've enjoyed many of Ms Robert's novels and series but just couldn't get into this one. I found it slow enough to only get through the first few chapters before I lost the desire to continue.
When a young woman comes home to find her roommate dead and her home ransacked, she soon learns her boyfriend is actually an identity-stealing serial killer. She sells everything and moves closer to family in order to heal and try to salvage what little she has left. She slowly builds a new life but her ex isn't done with her yet. She is the only woman to get away from him and he won't stop until he steals her what's left of her identity and her life.
I love Nora Roberts though I haven't been as impressed with her recent stories over the last 5 years or so. Identity reads like one of her older novels. Charismatic characters, a well-developed storyline, multiple subplots, and
that prevailing all-encompassing notion that no matter what, we can always go home.
A fast read that is sure to keep fans engrossed till the end.
Morgan Albright has a good life in a Baltimore neighborhood. Her best friend Nina lives with her and helps to make the mortgage payment on her house. At her bartending job she meets Luke and they share a mutual attraction. She invites him to a dinner party that she and Nina are having. Her world is shattered when her home is robbed and Nina is murdered. The truth emerges as she discovers that Luke’s name is Gavin who is a con artist who targets certain women, steals their identity, assets and murders them. Nina was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. With nothing left she has no choice but to move in with her mother and grandmother in Vermont. She is rebuilding her life when the FBI informs her that Gavin is finding new victims and leaving clues behind to let Morgan know he is going to take care of the one who got away.
Thanks to Nora Roberts and St Martin’s Press
Morgan Albright has a ten year plan and the drive and motivation to complete it. With two jobs she enjoys, a reliable car, and a cute little house she shares with her best friend Nina, Morgan is only a few years from realizing her dream of owning a bar. So when traveling IT specialist Luke asks her out, Morgan decides she can take time for romance and says yes. But Luke is actually cold-hearted, sociopath Gavin Rozwell, a con artist who steals women’s money, their identities, and ultimately their lives. After Rozwell steals Morgan’s identity and murders Nina in a case of wrong place, wrong time, Morgan’s life is left in shambles. She has only one option, move to Vermont to live with her mother and grandmother. Morgan takes a job as the manager of Apres, a bar located in the popular Resort at Westridge and she makes a romantic connection with Miles Jameson, one of the resort’s owners. Morgan is beginning to get her life back on track, but Gavin Rozwell has become obsessed with the woman who got away and this time he’s going to make sure he accomplishes his goals.
I have never read a Nora Robert book I haven’t loved and this is no exception. With her trademark lyrical writing style, Roberts weaves a captivating story of resilience and romance. The plot is strong and well thought out. I really enjoyed the pacing, not break neck where there’s no opportunity to settle in to the story and not to slow where you’re bored. The characters are fleshed out and realistic. Morgan has been molded by constantly moving as a child. She’s focused, driven, and craves the roots and community she never had growing up. Miles is steady, dependable, and family oriented. The kind of man who’s built for the long haul. Morgan and Miles just fit together. Rozwell is pure evil, but Roberts has given him a backstory that shows where he comes from and how he as escalated to become the man Morgan meets. The secondary characters are fun and support. A pure, perfect Nora Roberts novel!
This book is SO good! Once I got started with it, I couldn't put it down. I had to know what happened next, then next, and so on. You get the idea.
Morgan Albright was an army brat. As an adult, all she wanted was roots somewhere, anywhere. So, she settled in Maryland, saved, worked two jobs, bought a small house, and put down those roots. Then Luke Hudson happened—handsome, charming, a great conversationalist, and charismatic until he wasn't. What he leaves behind in his wake all but destroys Morgan. When FBI agents pay her a visit, she finally understands who and what Luke Hudson is and how lucky she is to be alive. Her best friend and housemate, Nina, is dead, and Morgan's identity is stolen along with her car, house, and everything else she values. With her confidence destroyed, she knows only one place to go—home to the only stable place she ever knew, her grandmother's house in Vermont.
As this story unfolds and Morgan gathers the strength to try and move forward, I found myself being proud of each tiny step she takes. Rekindling a beautiful relationship with her mother and grandmother, then landing a job at a classy resort, finally letting go of Nina's rattletrap car, and rebuilding a life from the rubble takes guts and determination. Then, she goes a step further and lets handsome Miles Jameson into her life.
She's been Hudson's only surviving victim. His real name is Gavin Rozwell, and he is a psychopathic serial killer leaving a string of victims behind him. To deepen his depravity, his first kill was his mother. Now, Morgan's survived and eluded him. He has to fix that.
This book is a fast-paced page-turner. Morgan is smart, she is beautiful, and she's gifted, not only in mixology but in people skills. Her job at the resort leads to life-changing events. But Rozwell isn't giving up. He blames her for his failures, and that must be fixed. From the beginning page to the climactic ending, I was hooked! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story with tons of suspense, tension, and a dash of romance. This might be Roberts' best-to-date!
I've been reading Nora longer than any other author - since I first read one of her books my mom left laying around when I was in high school - so I'm so excited to get a chance to read one of get books early! I loved this suspenseful love story, and wish I could go stay at that resort and visit the Nash ladies' shop.
4.5 Stars!
Nora Roberts’ writing really takes me into the story. Morgan has worked so hard to establish a life for herself only to have it all taken away from her. I could feel her devastation.
The story kept me on the edge of my seat. With Gavin still out there, would she ever feel safe again? Would he be caught before he could cause her more harm?
The story also gave me hope. While Morgan had everything taken away from her, she actually gained so much more back than she had taken away.

I had not read a NR book in quite a while, and I’m here to say this woman can still write✍️
💜💜💜💜
Morgan is a woman who works hard for what she has, but it all came down the day she met him at the bar 🎯 He hacks into her life and takes everything including her IDENTITY!
This was an enjoyable suspenseful thriller wrapped nicely with a hint of romance. The book could have been a tad bit shorter, but I still enjoyed reading every single chapter. Gram was my favorite character, and I love how Morgan overcame it all….Not your typical Cinderella story but comes close to it, and she can serve up some amazing drinks🍹
I wanted a bit more of HIM in the m epilogue too.

Interestingly written in 3rd person POV.

This was the best, a fast-paced, pager turner, serial killer, romance book.
FBI agents are chasing down the charming master of disguise and skilled hacker, serial killer. He's a psychopath,a malignant narcissist, a sociopath incapable of feeling guilt or remorse and… oh so smooth, relentlessly evil. sadistic and greedy af.
He ruins his victims by stealing their identity, then murders them and lives off their money.
His victims' profiles are single, slender, blonde females with androgynous first names.
This creature’s victims represent his mother, who was his first victim at age 19.
My favorite characters:
I adored Olivia & Audrey, what an amazing mother and daughter.
Morgan, OMG,Who doesn’t love a woman who’s been through hell and comes out stronger?
Miles, quiet yet well spoken, ruggedly handsome, true manly man, book boyfriend for sure.
OMG I absolutely Loved every single minute of reading this book! It's going on my favorites!!
So good! Another great read from a great author. Full of strong, resilient female characters, but also good relationship balance.
Nora Roberts has written another favorite. I can honestly say that every book I have read from her has been binge worthy. And she has something for everyone. I have the third book of her fantasy series in my TBR pile. I highly recommend this author as her writing style keeps improving with each new story.
To the review:
The author has combined two very different genres into one page turning book. She has written a serial killer thriller with a light romance. I was on the edge of my seat as the serial killer was unraveling. But huge heart eyes for our main character with her love interest.
“Identity” is masterfully written from multiple perspectives. Each perspective enhanced the story and really kept the story at an enjoyable pace.
The characters were well written and show so much growth and development. Even the side characters are enjoyable and don't overshine the main characters or plot.
The plot moves at an enjoyable pace and I feel is a perfect length.
I am all for a female empowerment story and this was wonderful. The main character has everything stripped from her by a serial killer and has to reassemble her life. The author does an excellent job of making the main character relatable and have a fun sense of humor.
If you are looking for the perfect marriage of serial killer thriller and rom/com romance then this is it!
Nora Roberts is the Queen of of suspense novels. I was thrilled to get approved for this e-book from NetGalley and St Martins Press.
Morgan Albright's life gets destroyed in one full swoop as she trusted the wrong man. She comes home afterwork to discover her best friend Nina has been murdered and that the killer cleaned out her bank account, opened fake credit cards and run up huge debt, took out loans in her name and manages to steal her car and get away. She learns that Luke is really Gavin Rozwell a pyschopath, serial killer, and con man who has been targeting women and stealing their identity.
Morgan is broke and devastated and moves back to Vermont with her mother and grandmother. These are two strong women who love on Morgan and convince her to get back out there and start again. She is blessed to find a job she loves at Apres. She also finds a new romance. She starts going to the gym and learning self defense as Gavin is still out there and she knows he will be coming back for her.
It was fun to see the cat and mouse chase between the FBI and Gavin.
I loved all the action, romance, and quirky family dynamics in the Jameson and Nash family.
Morgan Albright has the perfect life in Baltimore; works she loves, a house she owns and shares with a friend and a 5 year plan for complete financial independence with Cowboys e upgrading throw in. These meets a handsome, friendly guy who seems like a perfect fit for her life.
Until he isn't.
And he kills her roommate.
And she finds out she was lucky to escape a serial killer who stole her identity, wiped out her bank accounts, maxed her credit cards and had actually targeted her for killing but settled for her roommate instead in a spur of the moment change of plans.
Facing financial ruin, she heads east to her family's business in Vermont, grateful to be alive and given a second chance.
The story takes off and never slows down with one thrilling turn following another.
A great story with super interesting characters, a terrific plot and continuous thrills in the Nora Roberts contemporary style.
I usually enjoy a Nora Roberts as they leave readers with a happy ending and great charcters gaining new empowered lives through trials and unique settings all over the world. However this book is more of a gritty violent thriller and I had to skip over 60% which was excessive violence. This book is shocking violence . . I would not recommend any single woman read this book.
Suspense, identity theft, murder, romance, and so much more in Nora Robert’s new book, Identity. (It will be released on May 23, 2023.) The suspense had me on the edge of my seat. I did not want to put down the book. I read this in one day, which is unusual for me.
The plot was so suspenseful. We knew who the bad guy was, and Roberts gives the reader updates throughout as we see his progression to becoming more and more aggressive and needing revenge. Definitely cliff-hangers!
The characters, especially the Nash women, were so realistic. I loved Gram. Her views and advice were realistic. The relationship between the three generations of Nash women was wonderful to watch them work together.. Not perfect, but no family is and they knew it. So they worked at it.
I like the development between Morgan and Miles. It read so well as they worked out their relationship. Miles is a keeper!
Overall, I loved this book. Fantastic read. Highly recommend.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press, NetGalley, and Nora Roberts for allowing me the honor of reading Identity. All opinions are my own.
I am a victim of identity theft. My experience is light compared to Morgan’s, but I found myself frustrated that the first, most basic, piece of advice I was given after discovering that a fraudulent six-figure loan was taken out in my name seemed to be something the author never found in her research for poor Morgan. It’s something every person should do NOW for their own protection—lock down your credit. Call the three major reporting agencies and request that your credit be locked. It can be unlocked for a specified time when you want to make a major purchase. That way, no one can take out credit cards, loans, etc. At the same time, they can issue a fraud alert (if needed) so that credit card companies, etc, know you’re a victim of fraud. Federal law limits credit card damages to $50 and most won’t require payment at all if fraud. Identity theft is all so time-consuming and emotionally draining to deal with, but necessary. I wondered, too- why did none of the legal people tell Morgan - When substantial physical damage occurs because of identity theft that is reported to the US Government (IRS), a person can actually request a new social security number. Maybe murder and stalking count as substantial.
Yes, I know this would have impacted a major plot element, but I am sure the author imagination of Ms. Roberts could have developed something else further. Gavin was a tech-proficient psychopath toying with Morgan, the one who got away. He could make her life miserable in a myriad of ways. And with the use of technology, why in the world did no one think to tell her mother not to use Facebook to blast her arrival all over the web?
Even with the plot hole above, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. In my mind, this turned into a battle between good and evil. Obviously, I identified with the main character and her struggles, and Miles was the delightful side character in Morgan’s quest to regain her life. The evil, of course, was Gavin and his psychopathic fixation of getting what he wanted. I raced through the book to see how this story would play out. I will have to reread it to savor the book now that I know how another great Nora Roberts story ends.
What a thriller. This was my first Nora Roberts book, and I was not disappointed. The story is fast paced and full of action and suspense. You find yourself caring for the main character. This book will not disappoint you. A must read in my opinion!
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
