I told my friends, my coworkers, fellow readers, and anyone else I xcould about this book. You must read it. Plan to be on the edge of your seat.
Thank you Net Galley for a copy of Identity. This was a thrilling ride and I loved every minute of it! Very character driven, this book left me immersed in the story. Highly recommend!
Words can’t describe how much i loved this Nora Roberts book! I could not help but be swept away with these characters and their story.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
4.5 stars! Big thanks to St. Martin's Press via Netgalley for the early copy to read & review which is now no longer early as this book has been out for months.... WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS!?!?
I enjoyed this story a lot. It mixes thrill, suspense, mystery with a dash of romance and family drama (but not really 'drama' actually, more like family dynamics & relationships). Nora Roberts is incredibly descriptive which I loved. I felt like I was right there in the scenes with Morgan. I'm not sure how large or small the Vermont town is really but it sure felt a lot like a small town with the descriptions of the close-knit family-run businesses and relationships. Small Town is a favorite trope/ genre so I adored this! The story didn't ever drag (even though it is on the longer side of what I usually read) and felt paced well between the 'before' and 'after' and the parts that showed the FBI and Gavin's movements.
In the beginning I didn't really feel like Luke/ Gavin's character was fleshed out enough but later realized that was probably by design. He is meant to be this guy always on the run and always acting as someone else; using his charm in whatever way necessary to gain trust from his current 'mark.' Later chapters really bring his true self to light. I am a BIG Criminal Minds fan so seeing the glimpses at his psyche and how it progressed from his totally-in-control to completely-off-the-rails mindset was a joy.
The romance was super sweet (not spicy, snore, lol) and the way Miles wanted to protect Morgan at every chance turned my heart to mush. And I mean.....Howl....what a gooood boi he is!
The one thing I cannot get over is Morgan's character's use of "my ladies" when referring to her Mom & Gram. Like WHY. I can't stand it. But other than a quick eye roll each time (and it is a LOT of times) it didn't take me out of the story.
I want to start this by saying I love Nora Roberts. But I didn’t love this book. It was just okay. It took me a long time to finish it, I kept stopping and coming back to it a chapter at a time. They way they speak to each other seemed off, clipped sentences, not how anyone I know speaks. It made it hard to connect to any of the characters.
Morgan Albright has a life plan and goals beyond her two jobs. When a man chats her up while she is tending bar, Luke seems harmless. Little does Morgan know, but her life is about to change. When tragedy strikes, leaving her roommate Nina dead and her house in shambles, Morgan has no choice but to go home to her mother and grandmother in Vermont. Struggling to get her footing, Morgan starts to work for the Jamesons at their resort. When their son Miles catches Morgan's eye, will her chance to rebuild her life go up in smoke?
I liked some of the book, but the negatives outweighed the positives for me. The fact that Morgan called her mother and grandmother "her ladies" repeatedly was annoying. The identity theft portions of the plot were mainly implausible, especially regarding the fact that the FBI was on the case. They would have dealt with the cyber crimes much differently than they did in this book. The plot needed to go where it did for the story, but it did not seem genuine. None of the victims ever thought to freeze their credit? Victims of identity theft would be allowed to get a new social security number if they could prove the crime, which Morgan clearly did. These inconsistencies took away from the book as a whole. The novel was also pretty repetitive and could have used a few less pages. Overall, Identity was an average read which did not stand out among many other novels in the genre.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this book was entirely my own.
One thing definite about Nora Roberts’ is that their stories keeps you turning the pages. The plot had me enthralled through and through. I just couldn’t help and just finish it one single sitting. Highly loved and enjoyed it
Nora Roberts is who got me into reading romance. She is a master of her craft and never fails to knock it out of the park, book after book. This is no exception. Edge of your seat, jaw dropping twists and turns perfectly paired with swoon worthy romance.
Another great read from Nora Roberts! I look forward to her books every year. Identity kept me intrigued throughout the whole book - always trying to guess the bad guy’s next move. . The book had it all - suspense, humor, and of course a great love story.. I couldn’t put it down.
Thank you author Nora Roberts and publishers for a free E-book ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was amazing book. I loved the depth of layered suspense the author created within this story. The pacing and writing were on point. Overall, I loved every minute of this book and was well satisfied with the ending.
I didn't read the blurb before starting the book, because it's Nora Roberts. I was fooled at the beginning by the three brothers playing darts, but they were just a red herring. It is not one of those classic Nora Roberts romances, that I have read over and over again. Different genre, but just as good.
Instead, this is a thriller about a serial killer, who is thwarted by hard working, unassuming Morgan Albright, a young woman who learns she has "true grit" when she survives the murder after he killed her room mate by mistake. Then this psychopath destroyed everything she had slowly built, with identity theft. She proceeded to build a new life, learning her strengths and finding love while the killer continues to taunt her, and continues to murder other women.
As she usually does, the author also throws in fascinating instructions about bar tending and building drinks, gardening and home improvement ideas and self defense. And there is still the HEA end.
I read an ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Morgan Albright is a woman with a plan. She works two jobs, her best friend is her roommate, and it’s only a matter of time until she has enough money to open up her own bar. Things are going well. One night, while working at the bar, a man walks and strikes up a conversation. He’s good looking, nice, and Morgan thinks he could be fun. But he is anything but nice, and her well laid out plans are about to go south. I love Nora Roberts. Time and time again, her story line captures my full attention and I’m staying up into the wee hours for just one more chapter.
This book kept me anticipating the bad guys next move with each chapter. The author set the story up so well in the beginning and did a great job of tying suspense, humor, family relationships, and romance all into one great book! The characters were well developed and I could picture each place described as if I were there. Another great Nora Roberts read! #IdentitybyNoraRoberts #NetGalley
Nora Roberts is back with the romantic, suspenseful, easy reading that I love her for. She was one of my go-to authors for comfort reading back in my 20's, when my mom, sister, and I would pass around her trilogies, and I loved reading her work again. Identity is the story of a woman trying to rebuild her life after a horrific crime, and the good guys and very bad guys along the way. I loved the characters, setting, and pacing of this novel, and look forward to sharing this Nora book with my mom and sister once again. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book!
If you want romantic suspense novel this book is for you. Essentially a story about woman getting back her life. Love how the author told the story, her writing and character development. Overall was 3.75 stars read for me
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have only read 1 or 2 other books by Ms. Nora Roberts and couldn't even tell you what they were about. Well! Let me tell you, I will not soon forget this book!!! This was a gut wrenching , thrilling, romance story (though maybe a bit quick) that had my attention from the start and keep me wanting to read non-stop!
A little summary to wet your whistle, this story is basically about identity fraud and how quickly it spirals into a life changing, exhausting and devastating situation whirling out of control. We follow our MC , Morgan as she tries to piece her life back together after this personal attack. Watch out people! This one will rock your socks off!
I picked this up thinking it was a suspense/thriller but it had a lot more romance and was more rooted in Morgan’s relationships with family and friends. There is a creepiness factor when you think about identity theft and how personal safety can be easily breached. I wish this had more balance with the suspense, and the ending felt a little rushed. It was a slower paced book for me but I can this being well liked by those who don’t enjoy the intensity of a traditional thriller.
Nora Roberts still delivers after all these years! My favorites are the trilogies with a magical focus, and I hadn't read one of her romantic suspense in quite a while. This one had a heroine you'd like to root for and a bad guy to make you cringe. I liked the setting in small town Vermont, although I didn't really feel a connection with a few of the more main characters. (The grandmas in this one, though, were wise and solid as rocks!)
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the complimentary review copy of this title.
Identity by Nora Roberts is one of the first books of hers I have read in awhile and I look forward to reading more. It made me remember why I loved her books in the past.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this ARC.
As usual, Nora Roberts knocked it out of the park. This novel felt a little darker than her usual to start off, but ultimately it had the same heart, growth, and interrelationships that readers know and love. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
