I loved this. The story follows Morgan who is fresh out of college and making her way in life. Working two jobs and planning for her future she meets a man who interests her. He seems to blend right in with her life. Unfortunately, Gavin is a serial killer and an identity thief.
After getting caught by Morgan's roommate and killing Nina he wipes out her savings and goes on the run. Never forgetting how Morgan ruined all his luck.
Morgan moves back home with her Mother and Grandmother and begins rebuilding her life.
But Gavin hasn't forgotten about her and eventually comes for her.
I feel like the writing is superb. I feel like I know these characters. I've been to their homes and family dinners. I want to make plans to see them again. I know that sounds crazy but the writing just really sucked me in. I wouldn't say there are any groundbreaking plot twists, it's a predictable plot, but that made me love it even more.
Another top read by one of my favorite authors. The first thing I did after starting this book, was check my accounts and credit score, this bad guy, gave me chills. All the feels are here, extreme loss, family, love, romance as expected from a Nora Roberts book, and of course a good dog, lol. Loved this story, it is now part of my favorite Nora Reads. Do not miss this one!
Stop everything! Nora has a new book! I admit I am a huge fan so just had to read the book as soon as I got it. And it was sooo good. It starts out as a romance, not a steamy one, but the romance in first blush. But then Morgan goes home to find her roommate dead and her identity stolen. Her life is in tatters. With no other option she goes home to her mom and grandmother. But the FBI keeps showing up. They are tracing the guy that is the only suspect. The book is a thriller. Yet Morgan is a fighter and starts putting her life back together and even finds herself falling in love. The store owned by her mom and Gram sounds like a fun place to shop, the bar she manages sounds like a place I would want to stop and have a quiet moment. And the book ends in a spectacular fashion. What's not to like? Nora does entertain again.
Everyone has their favorite authors. Nora Roberts is one of mine.
Identity is a romance, a suspense thriller, as well as a story of family bonds and strong women. It tells the story of Morgan, who is the victim of identify theft from a crazed serial killer who is fixated on her. It also is the story of family bonds, and belief in yourself and your abilities. As always, Nora writes in such a way that you are immediately drawn into the story and the world she has created. It is always a dilemma for me: do I read it in one sitting, or do I try to savor every word, prolonging my time in Nora’s world.
Read this book. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an advanced copy. I will be forever grateful.
Nora Roberts has done it again. The plot line of this book revolves around the main character having her identity stolen by a serial killer who kills her best friend instead of her. It keeps you on the edge of your set while wondering if they will catch him before he comes back for Morgan. The love and relationship that forms between Morgan and miles seems realistic. I loved all of the characters that made up Miles and Morgans families. An added bonus where the strong female characters that were in this book. Thank you, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
I received this ARC from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review. Wow! Roberts once again writes a great romantic suspense that you can’t put down. You get so wrapped up with her characters and what is happening to them that you forget you are reading a book. I also really like how she breaks down her stories into sections that change up what is happening to her characters. Morgan Albright for most of her life has moved around, she has settled down near Baltimore has a great roommate and two fulfilling jobs and is starting to think about opening up her own bar. When she meets Luke; her life is shattered. Luke steals her identity and kills her best friend /roommate, Nina. When the FBI lets her know what is happening and who Luke is she loses everything and decides to go back and live with her grandmother and mother in Vermont. It becomes apparent that Luke who is a serial killer and computer hack is out to destroy Morgan because she is the only victim to have survived. Read and find out what happens to Morgan. I highly recommend this book.
Another fun adventure with Nora Roberts. As always the incredible world building really draws the reader in and creates a vivid feel of reality. It’s always a pleasure to read a story by Nora Roberts and Identity is another great tale to add to the list.
I almost got Crominal Minds vibes with the intense peeks into the mind of the criminal. While the view of Morgan going through trauma and coming out the other side stronger and more amazing than ever was such a bright and wonderful journey. I couldn’t put the book down it was so great. And I really cheered along with Morgan with each victory as she rebuilt her life.
Identity by Nora Roberts is a magnificently intense romantic novel constantly threatened by a identity-robbing serial killer. Morgan, despite life-challenging obstacles is determined to survive and with the help of family and good fortune proceeds to succeed while the killer does likewise. Once again Nora Roberts has a winner.
I'm a sucker for a good romantic suspense and while I love the JD Robb books, it's been a bit hit or miss with the Nora books...this one captivated me from the start.
I love love loved Morgan. She's loyal and loving and looking for roots. Her mom and grandma (or "her ladies") were some of the best parts of this story and I couldn't get to their scenes fast enough. Miles is all crunchy all the time, so of course that was awesome seeing him soften just a bit. And the Jamesons are an amazing family. I loved all of them.
Plot wise, it was glorious. The slowest of slow burns (on both the romance and the suspense) that kept ratcheting up the tension. I loved getting all of the POVs we did, especially as the story started skyrocketing to the finale. And yes, even that was perfect -- but not as perfect as the epilogue.
Overall, this was everything I could have wanted in a rom/sus and there's clearly a reason that Nora is the master. I can't wait to dive into more of her stories.
**Huge thanks to the publisher for providing the digital arc free of charge**
Nora Roberts always seems to have her writing fingers on the pulse of current events. In a time where digital identity theft is rife, her newest book, IDENTITY, is a timely tome.
When bartender Morgan Albright meets a guy who walks into the bar she works at one night, there’s an instant attraction. When they start dating, she slips into serious like with the guy. The only problem? He’s not who or what he seems. His name’s not real, nor is his persona. The guy is actually a con man, narcissist, and serial killer who digitally robs Morgan blind and winds up killing her best friend. He’d wanted to kill Morgan.
Bankrupt emotionally and financially, Morgan is forced to move to Vermont to live with her mother and grandmother. As she attempts to pull her life back together, the killer rues the day he didn’t kill her and plots his revenge.
Morgan gets a job at the local resort run by a wonderful family and starts to feel as if she’s getting a handle on her life again. A new job, a new home, and the promise of a new relationship have her seeing the light for the first time in over a year.
Until her killer comes back into her life.
This book was so chock full of twists and turns, I read it in one long installment because I didn’t and couldn’t put it down.
Everything from suspense to a slow-burn romance that just made me swoon, to characters that are, each and everyone, loving and wonderful.
Nora Roberts never disappoints and she hasn’t this time, either!
5 amazeballs stars from me for IDENTITY
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press, Netgalley, and of course, Nora Roberts for this wonderful sneak peek.
Wow! I just finished Identity and want to go back and reread it. You know it's a good book when you are crying as you read it. This is not a spoiler, but all through the death of Morgan's roommate Nina just had me in tears. You really felt Morgan's pain and guilt. Trying to do everything on her own only to have give up her home and her dreams to go live with her mother and grandmother. Morgan feels she has lost everything only to find everything she has ever wanted. The three generation of Nash women in the house is in itself a wonderful story. As Morgan begins to rebuild her life and find out who she is now, she finds Miles and their story starts. Their relationship is one of friendship and respect that builds into something more. I don't want to spoil the story, but there were several scenes that just made me tear up again. The story is very compelling. Now to go back and reread it again!
Oh, Nora still has it, folks! She sucks you in slowly while setting the scene, the desperation, the fear, and the hopelessness. Then she secures your interest with some new hope for a life, a possible love interest, and a bit of workplace conflict. Before you know it, you’re halfway through your time with Morgan and Miles, you can’t put the book down, and you’re wondering who’s going to do the saving, or if it’ll be too late. And trust me, the saving to be had is spectacular in its own right because strong women are her speciality.
Morgan, Miles, and both of their families kept me invested in what goes right for them. All while making me long for Miles’s siblings to tell their tales eventually. And while making me remember exactly why I love this author. She is still a master at the deprived mind of a serial killer, how he succeeds, and how completely he unravels in his bid to be top dog again. But she also delivers romance and love in a way that is almost unexpected, because Morgan and Miles had communication between them, attraction, maturity, and so much love.
I’m sad I’m done with this book, but I really hope to see more of this town, resort, and both families in the future.
As with all Nora Roberts’ books, I was hooked from the start. I knew there was going to be a twist but it totally caught me off guard when it happened. I certainly didn’t see it coming.
This story was a roller coaster of emotions; heartbreak, anger, love, strength. The author knows how to tell a story. I couldn’t put this book down. I started it last night and ended up getting back up to finish it. It was that good. I love her characters. They seem so real. This author is definitely one of my go to authors. I will read anything she writes.
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book provided by Netgalley.
Enjoyed reading this book. Couldn’t stop reading it — had to finish it. Story of Morgan Albright a single woman meeting the wrong man and damage and heartache he caused. The story made me want to see what was going to happen next — didn’t want to put the book down. It had it sad moments with the loss of a friend but it had many good moments too and the character building of Morgan with the help of friends and family. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
