4.5 Stars - The Prince & The Apocalypse is a great book. It sucked me in with a story that kept me entertained throughout. Wren and Theo find themselves helping each other with their goals while the end of the world is looming. Wren wants to get back to her family and Theo wants to go to his favorite place.
Their story is endearing, charming, sad, and filled with determination, adventure and romance. Be prepared for a cliffhanger ending though. There's still more story to be told and I look forward to the next book.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ummmm....HELLO!!! That last sentence! There better be a sequel to this perfect little book that took me by surprise in the best way!
The Prince & the Apocalypse is so much fun! Wren is on her senior trip to London and she wants nothing more than to go home. She planned her whole trip to the very last detail but unfortunately none of it went the way she wanted. She has one last chance to get something right and have breakfast at The World's End. Wren is devastated to learn the restaurants is closed but she does meet a cute boy. Wren's cute boy happens to be a Prince who's looking to get away from his controlled life. When they learn that the world is literally going to end they decide to work together to get Wren home while Prince Theo gets to live a little in the process. I loved this story. I enjoyed Theo and Wren and watching them grow together was so much fun.
I liked this one and read it just after returning from London where I had accidentally stumbled upon St. Pancras Station which is such a cool place. It was fun following Theo and Wren along their adventures across Europe while trying to outrun an apocalypse. It was light, fluffy, and full of off the wall situations which in the end makes sense given the fact that they believe they'll be dead in 8 days.
The only criticism I have is that the ending left things unresolved and I'm curious to see if there's another book in the future. Overall I enjoyed this one.
Cute rom-com with an end-of-the-world twist. I enjoyed the characters and all the European settings. Some of the plot points seemed very unbelievable, but I guess that is to be expected in a book about the apocalypse. Overall, it was a fun read. I just don't typically choose to read rom-coms. I loved the ending though!
This book caught me by surprise. It was very enjoyable read.caught me by surprise. It was good to feel a little more immersed in the setting, and kara did a fantastic job with it. The writing was nice. It's relatable and full of energy. I appreciated this lovely, hilarious, swoon-worthy romance and self-discovery novel.
ARC kindly provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Pros: fun premise, great main characters, ending
Cons: wiring style wasn’t my fave, hard to surspend disbelief
I really liked This Might Get Awkward, this author’s last book. This one wasn’t as smooth, and some of the adventures felt a little too random or unlikely. I’m curious if there will be a sequel though!
I thank the publishers and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of "The Prince & the Apocalypse." I found the premise intriguing, but the execution left much to be desired. The plot was riddled with inconsistencies and I often found myself irritated by the irrational decisions made by the protagonists. Their choices often defied common sense and their behavior was not consistent. The love story seemed forced and I didn't think the characters had any real chemistry. The ending was clearly setting up a sequel, which I am sure I won't bother reading.
An action-packed race against time through Europe during the apocalypse! And with Royal Romance! For those looking for a fast-paced, fun and unique read. Despite the circumstances, the characters were real - filled with depth, love, and hope!
Thank you St. Martin’s Press & NetGalley for this ARC!
*I received an e-arc via Netgalley and Wednesday Books for review, thank you! All thoughts are my own*
This is my third Kara McDowell book, and she hasn’t disappointed me yet. This book was FANTASTIC and gave me all the feels! A swoon worthy, end of the world, feel good romance that I highly recommend! There is also good mental health rep in this book, that I appreciated. Fans of the Princess Diaries and Hallmark royal love stories, this is for you!
Eighteen-year-old Wren Wheeler is on a senior year trip to London with her BFF that is supposed to be life changing, but all she really wants to do is go home. Her perfectly laid plans and itineraries have been ruined so far. She just has one more item she wants to check off her list before she goes home. She wants to eat breakfast at The World’s End restaurant where her overachieving sister went on her trip to London.
It turns out that, just her luck, the restaurant is closed for renovations. She winds up meeting a cute and mysterious boy there, who looks like Prince Theodore, on the run from the palace and his controlling mother. When Wren helps him escape some tourists and the paparazzi, the prince gives her his phone number and promises one favor in return for her help. Wren doesn’t plan on taking him up on his offer, until she gets to the airport and learns that her flight home has been canceled. The world is about to end in eight days due to an approaching comet! Wren realizes that the prince may be her only way to get back home to her family.
Wren makes a deal with the prince. She’ll be his bodyguard from London to his family’s compound in Santorini if the prince gets her a private jet home so she can say goodbye. Traveling across Europe with the prince, she finds herself drawn to Theo. But the prince has his own agenda, that could derail both of their plans. Is it possible to find a happy ending, when the world as they know it will be over in days?
I adored Wren and Theo! I felt that considering the circumstances, their romance was believable. I didn’t feel that it was rushed, even though it took place over a matter of days. The chemistry between them was *chefs kiss* and I loved the witty banter they shared.
Warning, there is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end, and I am extremely hopeful for a sequel! Highly recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed the chaos of this story and truly hope that there will be a sequel after that cliff hanger.
3.5 stars
This was a pretty fun book, following Wren and Theo across the UK and Europe as they race to get Wren home before the world ends. I enjoyed the different locations and seeing Wren and Theo get to know each other and open up about their fears.
I did think Wren was kind of frustrating, she was so strict about keeping her itinerary, even though I felt like it didn't matter that much. I understand wanting to get home to be with her family, but she pushed people away in her attempts to be controlling. Wren also defaulted to sarcasm and humor in tough situations and I just wanted to see her be serious about Theo's feelings sometimes.
The ending wasn't really what I wanted, but it did leave questions and I wonder if there will be a sequel?
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to Wednesday Books and NetGalley for the copy.
Okay there has to be a sequel to this book, right? You can’t drop that bombshell cliffhanger and NOT do a follow-up?
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press, Wednesday Books for an ARC of this book.
I was not prepared for a cliffhanger! I literally read this in one day and it's been a loooong time since I've done that for a book. I need to get my grabby hands on book two pronto. Because that's all I can think about now.
Wren helps Prince Theo escape the paparazzi when the news of a killer comet derails all her plans and she can't get back to her family. What follows next is an epic road trip that thrusts these two together as the world is on the brink of collapse and they must evade the notice of the public. I couldn't help but root for them even as they each kept their secrets. Also, Comet the dog is adorable.
Kara McDowell writes such real characters, and this is already one of my favorite books of the year. Loved every second.
I absolutely loved this story and the end of the world plot device. I was hooked from start to finish. I hope there will be another book because the ending was a bit dissatisfying.
I absolutely fell IN LOVE with these characters!! They are so cute with their banter and flirting!! such unique characters
This was a FANTASTIC book. End of the world, racing through countries with a Prince, an adorable dog, and the romance was fabulous. I loved this book so much! I need a sequel right now! Loved this one so much!
Thank you Wednesdays book and netgallery for letting me review this book. I was so drawn into this book. Wren pretty much like to plan out things for her but when she took her trip to Europe things she planned did not go well. After bumping into the prince and helping him hide from the guards plans went out the other way. I love how these two develop a relationship between each other from each place that they travel to so then Wren can get back home but as the days go on it felt more than that. I love this book so much!
An absolutely delightful, escapist rom-com that at once felt like a breath of fresh air and an old friend.
I so enjoyed the layers of characterization that unfolded throughout the story, along with the dreamy locations and swoon worthy romance. This book will break your heart a little, but also stitch it back together.
I think teen readers as well as fans of fun rom-coms will enjoy this, along with anyone who has tried to plan every aspect of life and failed… but found something better along the way.
Also, there just HAS to be a sequel.
All I have to say is there better be a sequel. This book is jampacked with fun journeys and quality characters. I had a lot of fun and I really need some more right now.
