A surprising five-star read that will blow you away. I need to know what happens next, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much with this I thought a little romance and some end of the world drama thrown in, and you have a great story. What I got was so much more, I was sucked into the story and held there never to be let go, honestly, I was with Wren and Theo every step. There was so much going on with this one, there was a great story as well as so much emotion, drama and action. This is a great story and one I hope so many will enjoy as this is a compelling story that will take you on a journey.

Eighteen-year-old Wren's dream British trip ends up turning out like nothing she had planned. Not only is she sick with a virus most of the trip, but she also ends up missing her flight back to the states. She ends up running into a British prince who is fleeing. Add to this a meteor is set to destroy the Earth. What happens next is a high-stake race through five countries in five days to get a private flight back home. Only Wren isn't prepared for how she'll feel toward a runaway Prince.

What worked: Fun, engaging end-of-the-world rom-com. This story has high-stakes action throughout. When readers first meet Wren she's disillusioned with her whole ideal British trip. All she wants is to leave the UK. Then she encounters a fleeing UK prince and the threat of the Earth being destroyed by a comet. They join forces to escape.

Wren's plight is one that is almost enviable. Who wouldn't want to spend your last days with a cute prince? Many things are thrown into their path. But one that they both don't expect is falling for each other.

I enjoyed this humourous at times contemporary rom-com. Wren and Prince Theo's struggle to get out of the UK and get her a way back home to be with her family has lots of twists and turns. I like how Wren tries to stay on task and not fall for the Prince. She's the logical, type A personality that is used to making endless lists. Only what to do to survive an upcoming calamity isn't something she ever thought of!

The chemistry between Wren and Theo is there, even when both of them continue to deny it. And omg on that ending cliffhanger. So NOT FAIR! I'm hoping there is an upcoming sequel!

American Royals meets the end of the world. This high-stake contemporary rom-com is filled with adventure, action, and heart.

I don't even know where to begin in talking about how much I loved this book. The Prince & the Apocalypse is one of those books I couldn't put down. When I had to, I was thinking about when I could read more. Like the end of the world should be, there are highs, lows, hope, despair, love, and unexpected endings. Kara McDowell outdid herself with this one. Absolutely pick this one up to read.

Unexpected premise of an apocalypse with a romance involving a royal prince amidst it all but it was a mashup that drew me in and didn't disappoint.

Oh my goodness! I’m screaming at the top of my lungs and probably not only my neighborhood but entire LA County may hear my screaming!

That cliffhanger at the end of the book is absolutely unexpected and shocking! I am seriously wondering what is gonna happen next! I need more! I’m literally craving the next book! And I’m telling my brainy, nerdy, bookish friends, this book is A SECRET GEM! Please go blind and dive into it! Please add to your TBR! Don’t you dare to skip it!

This is amazing combination of Don’t Look Out, Before Sunset, Before Sunrise, gender reversed Princess Diaries, Jean Luc Godard’s Breathless.
You find glimpses of each movie in this story and you’re gonna enjoy action packed full will ride!

And you want to give long hugs to those characters. Wren Wheeler: 18, from Chicago, following her sister’s steps with scheduled itinerary to visit London with her schoolmates. But her plan fails as unexpected things get her way like stomach cramps, disappointment about the places she highly plan to enjoy! And her best friend gives her cold shoulder because her tight and hourly planned holiday itinerary.

Her plan to visit World’s End results with bumping into a young, blonde, gorgeous fugitive who also might be prince of Wales. But he insists her to call him Theo. She doesn’t have much chance with her highness who has four names and no last name.
But Theo is selfless, caring, spontaneous, sensitive, such a lovely guy! Not a pretentious, privileged royal as like she’s imagined!

She helps him to trick the paparazzo and he gives her his phone number just in case she needs a favor.

A few hours ago she calls him back. Because she realizes three things: she missed her plane, she stuck in airport when all the flights get cancelling and in 8 days a fourteen-mile-wide will hit the earth that means they’re all gonna die!

Prince Theo wants to run away from his family to spend his last hours at their family house in Santorini and Wren obviously wants to find a way to spend her last minutes with her family. So they make a deal to travel together: Wren will help him to disguise and run away from authorities without getting recognized and Theo will help her to fly to her home in a private plane!

But there are several unexpected obstacles they keep encountering during their trip and Prince Charming harboring a big secret that can change the course of their adventurous escape!

THIS IS FREAKING GOOD! I NEED THE SEQUEL ASAP! Honestly this book superseded my expectations! I didn’t expect to love it so much!
Read it ASAP! Then you can thank me later!

I am blown away by how much I absolutely love this book. I knew it was going to be fun, but the road trips, funny disasters (like the bleach incident), and encounters with new friends were absolutely hilarious to read about. I also love that amidst their road-tripping, Theo and Wren found time to be real, to share their grief and struggles about their impending doom and other parts of their lives.
The setting felt very realistic to me, and it’s obvious that the author did a lot of research about apocalypses and what would actually happen to the world if a comet struck it. The people’s reactions and the politics all very very believable to me, which was a HUGE plus.
Although I didn’t love Wren at first, she felt very true to her age as an 18 year old, and was such a fun character overall. (I don’t love her name, but that’s a personal preference.) And of course, I swooned A LOT over Theo. *heart eyes*
This book definitely felt very New Adult to me, with the swearing, sex, getting drunk, etc. I’m personally not a fan of reading about those things, but the book was too fun and engaging to DNF it.
I’ve been thinking about this book nonstop since reading it. I can’t wait for it to come out and find out if there will be a sequel!

An absolutely delightful, heartwarming romp of a book! I was immediately intrigued by the premise (an end of the world road-trip with a runaway prince?! Yes, please!) and the book absolutely delivered. The characters were well developed and complex, the banter was a delight, and I enjoyed it so much that I zipped through it in a day!

Read this in one sitting and absolutely loved it. I am a sucker for books involving royalty and this one was a bit difference than other royalty stories but it definitely hit the spot. Loved our two main characters Theo and Wren <3 There is something I would like to ask but there is no way without it being a spoiler so... can't wait to see what Kara McDowell writes next

This was not the book I was expecting and so thrilled by it!

This is the story of Wren and Theo and how the literal end of the world was really their beginning. Wren misses a flight and ends up helping a fugitive price. Swoon!

I loved the adventure aspect and banter of our two main characters. I was just thinking I want a follow up story, but I also love how it ended. This is an easy fast paced read - give it a go!

THE PRINCE & THE APOCALYPSE by Kara McDowell is a contemporary Young Adult Adventure Romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. It involves many of my favorite romance tropes, like only one bed, and forced proximity, just to name two. Preorder this fantastic book, and then set aside a day, because you won't be able to stop reading. Before I gush some more, here's the setup.

Wren Wheeler has travelled on a school trip to London only to discover she doesn't enjoy being away from home. Her two-week trip goes sideways, and in an attempt to check off one item on her itinerary, she ventures to The World's End Restaurant for breakfast. It's closed for renovations, of course, and as she's laughing at her situation, a young man with golden blond hair steps next to her. She only recognizes he's the errant Crown Prince Theo because her royal-obsessed best friend had shown Wren a picture of him on their flight over. After Wren helps Theo escape a pack of tourists, he gives her his number, promising to repay the favor, and wishing her an enjoyable eight days. Helping Theo made Wren miss her ride to the airport, and she misses her flight. Normally, that wouldn't be much of a problem, but the world is ending in eight days because of an asteroid pummeling towards Earth. The airport is in chaos, and flights are getting cancelled left and right because people are quitting their jobs so they can spend their last days as they wish. Wren calls Theo, and he agrees to help her get a flight home if she accompanies him to his family's place in Santorini, where she can board their private jet. Adventure and romance ensue.

Fam, this book was a ROMP, and I really enjoyed it. There was action, adventure, and a swoony romance. There's hair coloring gone awry, an accidentally stolen car, a ferry in peril, and a really charming, sometimes mysterious, 100% endearing love interest.

The main character, Wren, was very relatable because I, too, have a tendency to draw up itineraries and plans. I've experienced anxiety when they go astray. Wren was vulnerable, didn't feel the need to treat Theo any differently because he's a royal, and she came through when quick thinking and action was required. The only criticism I have regarding her as a character is that I failed to buy into her continuing desire to get home before the end of the world. She has an older sister who seems to want to hold her down, parents who fight, and I learned little about the rest of her family other than she has a younger brother and a dog, and she misses them. Maybe I question her motivation to go home because I kept cheering for her to change her mind and instead spend the rest of her days left on Earth with Theo.

Speaking of Theo, have I mentioned that I found his character charming? Yes? Good. Underneath that charm is a young man who has the burden of always being in the spotlight, bearing heavy expectations on his shoulders. No wonder he's run away from his overwhelming situation. The way that he opens up to Wren about the challenges he faces was genuine and touching. In a way, the challenges he faces as a royal echo what's happening with the actual royals (or former ones) today, a bit of political commentary that wasn't lost on me.

The author did a solid job of reminding the reader an apocalypse is on the horizon. From the descriptions of the chaotic settings, to the feelings expressed by the characters, the impending doom felt real, and yet it didn't overwhelm because I was so drawn into the story.

There are a few twists which I didn't see coming, especially the big one at the end. Given where the novel leaves off, I offer a curtsy in exchange for the next book in the series, please.

THE PRINCE & THE APOCALYPSE is a well-written romp of a contemporary YA Adventure Romance. I loved the characters, the action, the revelations, and, of course, the romance. It was the escape I needed.

4.5 stars

This book felt like I was watching an apocalypse movie, and I loved it! Wren was such a relatable main character and Theo was just perfect. I really hope that eventually it will get a movie adaptation, because I would definitely see it in theaters. I was getting so stressed for the main characters, and the ending makes me want more Wren and Theo content.

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me an e-ARC of this book!

A British heartthrob prince sets off an adventure with an American girl just trying to get back home before a comet destroys the world. (Where do I SIGN?!?!)

This book was pure fun. It was regularly ridiculous and impossible to believe at certain points — but aren’t most tales about the imminent demise of the entire planet? Slightly off-putting antics aside, the storyline kept me reading to the last page.

In the interest of being spoiler-free, I will avoid any commentary on that ending — JUST WHY — but will say the character development throughout was a little on the superficial side. Theo and Wren have a good arc (somewhat), but there was just something missing in their shared chemistry and how they communicated and learned from one another. (I also just couldn’t with all the unnecessary subterfuge.) Plus, it didn’t help that Wren often made dubious choices…I struggled for nearly half the book on rooting for her, which you really don’t want for a protagonist.

Despite all of that, this is a light and quirky read. One that I even found myself genuinely appreciating — sometimes the kind of books you don’t know you need are the ones that play out exactly as you’d expect from page one.

Many thanks to Kara McDowell, NetGalley, Wednesday Books/St.Martin's Press for allowing me to enjoy an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

An American tourist must team up with the British crown prince if she hopes to make it home before the end of the world in this fast-paced, high-stakes, rom-com.

I have to start this review by stating that apocalyptic scenario books and movies give me anxiety. I know, it's weird. I can read books with really dark themes and not bat an eyelash, but throw in a world-ending cataclysm and I sit there with sweaty palms and a racing heart. I had to put the book down a few times to remind myself that, "No, a world-ending comet is not currently hurtling toward the Earth...that I know of, anyway."

I loved the banter and the slow-burn romance between the two main characters, Wren and Theo. Wren is the kind of person who makes lists, plans everything, and has basically her whole life planned out in detail. Theo is a royal burdened by the expectations his family and title require of him. I have to note that I loved the way Kara McDowell represented Theo's mental health struggles in this story. It was well-written.

I would recommend this book to someone who loves romantic comedy and drama, high-stakes adventures, and deliciously witty banter and slow-burn tension.

I don't want to spoil anything but...that ending. I need a sequel. Please and thank you.

Okay I love a good apocalyptic story, but one with also romance in it. Bring it on!

This was fun to read, to say the least. This book is overall about falling in love when the world seems to be falling apart and isn't that just the most romantic thing ever?!

The Prince & The Apocalypse is about a girl who must learn to let go of her 'set in stone' plans for her life and a boy who is struggling with the weight of unbearable family expectations and untreated depression. This story is about the romance as well as the adventure, and when it comes to writing characters with mental health struggles, you need to be careful on how to write them. Kara McDowell does a good job at that. The romance does not overshadow the mental health topic in the story, it portrays it so well that I related so hard to it.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC!

It was a lot of fun to follow Wren and Theo through Europe, racing against the clock as the world was set to end in the span of 8 days. There was a slow-burn romance that built up between them as all of Wren's careful plans and itinerary lists went up in smoke.

Hilarious witty banter features in most scenes, as Wren and Theo had decided early on to skip pleasantries and be (sometimes brutally) honest with each other. Relatable secrets, family conflicts, and self-esteem issues are revealed as they get closer.

This is such a cute/fun read that I sets up a potential sequel really well. I loved the drama, the stakes, and the humor, The romance was cute too. Overall, a great contemporary YA read for anyone who enjoys the genre.

This book was AWESOME! I enjoyed it so much. It was full of adventure, fun and wit. I loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. Kara McDowell does an excellent job of writing a story that’s fun and witty against such a heavy backstory. The writing is beautiful!

I would absolutely recommended this book to a friend. Do yourself a favor and read this book!!

I devoured this book in one sitting. It was so much fun that I could not put it down!

I loved both of the main characters and felt like they were extremely relatable. I am very much a planner and like a firm itinerary, so Wren was my type of girl. It was so satisfying to watch her break out of her comfort zone and learn to have more fun. Theo was nothing like I would have expected a prince to be like, but in all of the best ways. He was so kind and put others before himself, and he was shockingly emotionally intelligent for a royal.

The action portion of the story felt like a Bourne Identity and Armageddon mashup, and I couldn’t get enough of it. I don’t want to give anything away, so I will come back in July and add more thoughts on the crazy situations that happen. So much fun!

Overall, I highly recommend this book and humbly beg for a sequel!!

Thank you so much to St. Martin’s Wednesday Books for this ARC.

I am OBSESSED with this book! Kara did not disappoint!! I adore Wren and Theo’s relationship, especially their initial meeting and of course, their wedding. The ending absolutely wrecked me, and I am dying (in eight days, apparently) for a second book. Seriously, I would either die from laughing at the ending, or die from the suspense. THE WORLD IS ENDING IN EIGHT DAYS AND IT ONLY TOOK ME A FEW HOURS TO READ THIS BOOK. And if this review sounds like madness that’s because it’s early morning and I stayed up all night because I couldn’t out this book down. Go read it!!
