You'd never believe it until you got to the end, but NORTH OF NOWHERE takes place entirely in one day, sunup to sundown. There are many characters to keep track of but you always know who to root for. I loved Kristen's character, and at 16 years old I felt so bad for her and the things she went through. It's an incredibly tense ride, and I think the scariest character of all was the Montana weather. Taking place almost entirely in the wilderness, there was an eerie calm to the story. I thought it was very believable too, which just added to the eerieness.

I read somewhere that this is a mix of Yellowstone and Succession (can someone say, dysfunctional families??), so if you're a fan of either, you'll be a fan of this book. I'm super late to the party, but thank Minotaur Books for providing me with an ARC last year!

This was just okay for me. It started out action packed with a bang. Survival thriller meets family drama. I enjoyed it for a while but besides Kelly and Ryan I really had a difficult time caring about any of the other many characters. It became predictable and I lost interest along the way. I would read more from this author. I’m hoping this book just wasn’t for me personally and that others enjoy it more than I did.

Really well written story (thriller). Had drama, suspense, a great setting and a great mix of characters. Although at times I found myself trying to keep track of all the characters that appeared, I liked that each one contributed to the storyline and was a part of it in some way; as well as revealed/added more to the drama and suspense. Would definitely recommend.

Kristin and Ryan McIntyre are in a fight to stay alive. They are being hunted, and the man who cared for them as if they were his own, was killed when their plane is shot down. Their father, Boyd McIntyre, who is head of a Los Angeles crime family, wants his kids back, and won't hesitate to mow down anyone in his way. The children are now deep in the Montana Wilderness, and they are struggling to stay alive, all while fighting the elements and other dangers.

One of the people looking for them is their aunt Ruby, Body's sister. She wanted absolutely nothing at all to do with the crime element that her family was so she got out by joining the Army. When a phone call alerts her that her niece and nephew are in grave danger, she will go to the ends of the earth to find them and protect them.

Meanwhile, Boyd and a tracker he has hired want the children. As far as Boyd is concerned, his children will become part of the family business. Then there is the children's grandmother, who is very dangerous in her own right.

What a thrill ride when it came to listening to this book! I was completely drawn into the drama when it came to the children, especially as Ryan is deaf, but proved to be just as strong as his sister Kristin.

Danger in the form of being hunted. And danger from a brutal snowstorm that makes things equally dangerous for Ryan and Kristin. This is a true story of survival and kept my attention throughout.

Many thanks to Minotaur Books and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

I have been provided with a review copy of North of Nowhere from NetGalley for an impartial review. Oh my gosh this story was just epic. I just couldn’t put this story down and I was just captivated by everything that was taking place. The author truly outdid herself with this story. This story just had my emotions all over the place and I am so sad to see this book end. I just can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

This is a book that I would highly recommend reading as an audiobook. The storytelling in this way just made this so much more captivating. This was an intense one y'all. It's a wilderness/survival story (and I always love stuff that gives me those Hatchet-esque vibes) with a heaping helping of thriller-y intense stuff. This was quite the pageturner (ear-turner? I'm not sure what the audio version is?) as I wasn't sure who could be trusted, who was aligned, and just what was going to happen as people (and the weather) brought quite the intensity. Thanks to NetGalley for the look at this August 2023 release.

A thrilling, fast paced no nonsense novel set in Montana, the main characters were well rounded and mostly likeable. The setting was such a key to this novel. Another gripping and compelling story from beginning to end by Allison Brennan!

Kristin and Ryan are siblings on the run from their father, a crime boss. They escape him just in time by getting on a plane flown by someone they trust. The plane goes down and they’re stuck in the Montana wilderness during a snowy winter. There’s bad weather, people chasing them, and the siblings are just trying to survive. Who will catch them first - their murderous father or the people trying to help them?

This was a well done thriller that started fast, stalled a bit in the middle, and got amped back up by the end. I loved the premise and the snowy wilderness. Kristin and Ryan were developed characters and I was rooting for them the whole time.

Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Minotaur Books for this eARC. North of Nowhere is out now.

This is the first thriller I have read in a while, and it didn't disappoint! I was hooked from the beginning, with the dangerous setting and the well drawn out characters keeping me intrigued. I couldn't read it fast enough!

I loved the multiple points of view! They were well done, and timed just when you wanted to know what was happening next with each character. I felt pulled into the crazy adventure right alongside everyone, and couldn't help but cheer the characters on.

This was the first book by this author for me, but I will definitely be looking for more when I am in the mood for a thriller/mystery!

North of Nowhere by Allison Brennan is a fast-paced thriller about siblings Kristin and Ryan McIntyre and their race to keep away from their murderous father. They end up stuck in the middle of the Montana wilderness with a snowstorm approaching. But they do have a few people watching out for them. I really enjoyed this story. It sucked me in from the beginning, and I was invested in the characters. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.

Being chased is one thing, being chased by the person who is your father is something on the next level!

A crazy ride of cat and mouse! Overall a very good book!

This story is told in third person and follows a pair of kids that have been hidden from their father because of his connections to organized crime. The plot is action-packed. I really enjoyed the story as the children hiked through the Montana wilderness with their aunt, local search and rescue, rangers, and the bad guys all tracking them. Some of it may have been a little implausible but I always enjoy a good hiking-through-the-woods story, especially if there’s a reason for suspense, not that I want to frantically hike through a blizzard or anything, but I enjoy a good hike on a nice day at my own leisurely pace. LOL

However, later in the story, it lost some steam for me and the plot felt a little more convoluted. Some of the characters disappeared from the canvas, there were a few dropped subplots, and the true villain of the piece became a bit more of an unbelievable caricature.

Recommended to those that can overlook some implausibility for some blizzard-filled thrills.

North of Nowhere reminded me so much of a Jason Bourne movie, it was so action packed. Unfortunately, this one fell so flat for me. I felt like it was super slow paced and not really much happened? What did happen wasn’t very surprising and it was just very copy & paste of a typical action movie but in novel form.

I think this is a case of this kind of book is just not for me, which is ok!

Thank you to St. Martins Press and Minotaur Books for my copy of this!

A good traditional mystery with appealing characters and solid twists. I don't tend to love wilderness tracking kind of books and might have passed this one up if I knew more about that at the outset, but I'm glad I didn't. Solid audiobook narration as well.

Based on the description, North of Nowhere had every element of a fast-paced thriller that I love. Unfortunately, I felt like it moved incredibly slowly, I was bored for most of it and found it predictable. The story itself was very atmospheric and the descriptions of the locale were great. While the story was slow, I did enjoy Brennan's writing style and will certainly give other books by her a shot; North of Nowhere was simply too slow-moving for me.

I did enjoy the ending and that redeemed the book for me. Overall, I thought it probably could have been 100 pages shorter, and that could have helped the slow factor.

From chapter one, I knew this was going to be an exciting and atmospheric read! It’s super fast paced and full of action and adventure. Two siblings, hiding from their crime-boss father, have just been located and escape by plane with the man who’s been caring for them. The plane is shot down leaving the kids to find safety in blizzard conditions. This book made me feel like I was in the woods with Ryan and Kristin fearing for my life! I enjoyed reading about the family members and their history as a crime family and seeing the ‘softer’ side of Boyd. The setting was perfect for this storyline and I loved the twists and unexpected revelations.
