This was a fast read mystery. The book had a simple plot and was an enjoyable read. Although part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone book. This is a book which I would recommend to those who like a good mystery.

Colleen Hayes is an ex-con turned Private Investigator. Colleen is trying to clear her friend Owen, who is a cop and has been arrested in his ex-wife's murder. Not an easy task since no one really wants to help out--not even the 'brothers in blue'. Then there is the Night Candy. A serial killer who targets the girls on the street. No one knows who he is or why he's doing this. Colleen has her work cut out for her. Personal note...I would like to say, I do not care to have a description of what almost every character is wearing or what their offices or homes look like. To me this is what I call fluff and all it does is add to the word count. I would have given this story 5 stars if it wasn't for what I just stated. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Max Tomlinson's latest book is a winner! While Night Candy could have been the standard thriller, there are a few things that really made the book stand out. First of all, the story is so well done. Let's be honest, so many thrillers rely on cheap tricks and twists from nowhere for the sake of shock value, but every twist and turn in Night Candy feels real, planned out, and authentic to the story line, which I really appreciated as a reader. What really made this book for me was the setting. The author really nailed the 70s' San Francisco aesthetic. Every description made me feel like I was actually there. Overall, this was a good read that I would recommend to anyone who loves the genre.

Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC of this book for an honest review. This book is full of action and you just want to know what’s going to happen next. A PI who was once in prison is street smart and on the hunt for the Candy Man who has been killing women. The story gets more complicated as it goes on and you find yourself really liking the book. It’s not for everyone because it’s a little gruesome.
