Now I've been guilty of requesting a review copy of a book that isn't the first in a series before, but I double checked the NetGalley page and don't see any notation that this book is the fourth in a series. Amazon mentions it, but Goodreads does not. In any event, I was surprised when I saw that this wasn't the first in a series and that definitely impacted my ability to enjoy the story (as I felt there was a lot of context in the plot I was missing out on).
In any event, I would give this series a 3.5 out of 5, but am rounding up because I probably would have given it a four had I read the prior books. The plot moved quickly, but efficiently (in other words, it was fast-paced, but I don't think that occurred in a negative way). The book has YA, approachable writing approach. I recommend giving this series a shot, but start at book 1.
