I love this author, and I had this feeling that this book would not disappoint. The plot was perfect, Grace is going away for just 10 days and she rents a room on a ranch in Wyoming. Hella random but I was excited for the whats to come from this even though I would NEVER book just a room in a ranch where the owner also lives in, but it’s whatever, that’s why it’s fiction. Anyway she meets Calvin who owns the ranch and Omg, I was on the edge of my seat throughout this whole book waiting for the show to drop.

Secrets are revealed Calvin is hiding too much and the people in town are acting weird. She gets close to him, but then when the sheriff is trying to find a missing girl who was supposed to be at his Airbnb I was wondering “where is this going?” This author did the same thing in The Perfect Marriage, left us hanging thinking we knew what was going on but then doing a whole 360 and left with your mouth open in the end.

The characters we meet here are not what they seem, both MC are hiding things…. And even though I was SHOOKETH for a bit because some situations gave me an “oh sh**” moments, but I feel like this book fell a little short, I was expecting a better ending or maybe more…. But overall I enjoyed it.

Grace decides to take a mini vacation away from the city and lands in Wyoming at an Airbnb. When she arrives the owner of the place Calvin is smitten with her. A country boy and a city girl! What is they say about opposites attract?

I loved the layout of this novel which chronicles every day of her vacation. Between flirty exchanges, a cast of eclectic characters, and strange occurrences, this novel had all the CREEP factor.

As the days go by things get intense. No cell service, a missing girl, a vendetta and other things happen that kept me reading this book and I could not put it down. I love how she gave a shout out to Colleen Hoover! I was blown away with all the twists in this novel, especially the last one.

Jeneva Rose is one to watch. Ever since I read her first novel The Perfect Marriage she continues to deliver amazing books. I just picked up her novels under her pen name J.D. Adler which is now under Jenva’s name.

Thank you @netgalley, @blackstonepublishing, and author @jenevarose for this advanced copy!

This book had a few good twists. But unfortunately, nothing that made me sit on the edge of my seat or scream! I did like the characters, and the setting. Unfortunately, I found the overall story, and dialogue just lack luster. I can definitely see the book being pretty popular, and our library will be putting this on or shelf. It just was not for me.

Needing a break from her non-stop work life, New Yorker Grace Evans books an Airbnb stay at a ranch in Wyoming where she meets her handsome yet mysterious host, Calvin Wells. Will everything go over smoothly, or is there danger lurking around the chicken coop.

So, Jeneva Rose did it again! She wrote another fantastic book 🙌🏾. The plot, the characters, and just the story as a whole make you not want to put the book down. I love that from the very beginning, when it comes to both Grace and Calvin's POVs, you already start asking yourself what are they hiding, what are they being truthful about, what are they lying about, and as a reader you don't know who to trust and that's what makes reading this book fun and interesting 🤗. And that's what I like most about thrillers, I rather not be able to trust a character and what they say or do because at the end when that curveball hits, it will pack a punch and makes the story and characters even more interesting. "You Shouldn't Have Come Here" is a book definitely worth being recommended!

This book is sold as a thriller but it's really a romance novel for the first 80%. So if you like a romance and lust at first sight, you'll enjoy this more than I did.

Grace is a New Yorker who rents out a room at an Airbnb in small town Wyoming. There are all kinds of issues right off the bat like no cell service and no internet to ward Grace off, but the homeowner, Calvin, is really good looking and she wants to relax, so she stays. The two POV's of both Grace and Calvin center around how infatuated they are with the other. Truly, very romance novel like.

At about 85% into the book the thriller comes into play. The ending is wrapped up very quickly and unsatisfying for me. I always want to root for a character but I didn't really feel like I knew either of them or really cared what happened to them.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for this honest review.

You Shouldn’t Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose 🦬

First Line✏️”I didn’t want to stop, but when the low fuel light lit up on the dashboard of my car, I knew I had no choice.”

First off, thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. These opinions are my own.

Grace Evans is a New Yorker who knows nothing besides work. Looking for an escape from her every day life she books and Airbnb in Wyoming. Upon arrival the owner of the airbnb is handsome Calvin Wells. Lack of cell service, wifi, and a missing woman in the area have Grace questioning if something isn’t right with the town.

Despite her feelings, Grace decides to stay and overtime becomes closer to Calvin, eventually falling for him. As her 10 day stay nears its end, Grace and Calvins relationship starts to change as strange happenings keep occurring and Calvin develops an obsession with Grace.

This is my first Jeneva Rose book.
Lets start with the cover. Its simply captivating. The darkness, the creepy long driveway, car with headlights, a house in the middle of no where - its everything a thriller reader looks for!
For the first 3/4 of the book I found it to be very slow paced. While I was invested in the story it was hard to keep my attention. About half way through it picks up into a guessing game mystery. You don’t really know who the “bad guy” of the story is. All the action comes around 65% in which was a bit of a let down for me personally. Thrillers are my number one genre and having all the thrills come at the end of this book was how do I say this….expected and frusterating? While I did not figure out the conclusion completely, parts of it I suspected right off the bat. Overall I give this book 3 stars. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it, I wish there were more “thrills” added throughout the story, but I probably would not pick it up again.

Hooked from the beginning!! Another fun read from there and I was captivated and could not put this book down except when I had IRL get in my way.

We meet Grace Evans who is overworked and in need of a desperate getaway vacation. She decides to go to the AirBnB in Wyoming for rest and relaxation. Enter the ranch owner, Calvin and you can feel the electricity!

As they enjoy each other's company and get to know each other, soon, Grace's tenure will be concluding. Cue the growing obsession from Calvin and Grace's realization some of Calvin's tales do not add up. Run Grace, run! The ending is something that made me go, "what?!" which is rare for me. I love that!

A romance thriller gives this novel added flavor to the pot and gives us a richer novel.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.

It was so hard to put this book down.

Grace books her vacation in a small, middle of nowhere town in Wyoming. She has a high stress job in New York City and decides booking an Airbnb in Wyoming is the perfect getaway. She arrives and finds the town and the people strange but quickly takes to the host, Calvin. Even though there's no WiFi or cell service and she feels a little uneasy she decides to make the most of being off the grid. Calvin, who has some tragedy he's trying to get over, quickly becomes smitten with Grace. As Grace's stay continues and Grace and Calvin become closer Grace starts experiencing things that make her more and more suspicious while Calvin is trying his hardest to get closer to Grace but feels she's hiding something from him.

This book starts out almost like a Romance. While there are some suspenseful moments, the main vibe I was getting was a cozy Romance. Though, I'm not mad about it - it really set up for the suspense to build. I'd have read this if it was just a Romance. And when everything comes to a head I was tearing through the (electronic) pages.

The book is told from dual POV's, Grace and Calvin, which made it both easier and harder to put together what is actually happening with each of the characters. I had my suspicions about how this would end and while it did end the way I expected, the motivation behind it had me very caught off guard. So, there's also a great twist!

Also, shout out to the author adding some bookish pop culture throughout the book. From popular BookTok authors to calling out bookish cliches, it was fun to see those things throughout.

Highly recommend!

Jeneva Rose has yet to disappoint me. I loved this book! She does ominous so well. With all three of her books that I’ve read, I was hooked by the first page!

This book was addicting and thrilling. I enjoyed each of the characters and the role they played in making the reader look at them accusingly. What’s going to happen? Which one of them is the psychopath? Who has secrets?

The timeline of this was broken up into “day one”, “day two”, etc. which I loved. I felt like it created a lot of angst as the days passed and I knew I was getting closer to the craziness of the story.

I would have probably given 5 stars if this wasn’t my first Jeneva Rose book. Without giving anything away, I’d say she tends to take the same route in her twists. And although I do love it, it just left things slightly predictable for me this time around.

If you haven’t read a book by her yet, I definitely recommend picking one up! I loved The Perfect Marriage and One of Us is Dead.

Unfortunately, this book didn't work for me. I found it to be more of a romance than a thriller, and while this isn't necessary a bad thing, there was a lot I didn't like about the pacing and the plot line itself. I did appreciate the double twist ending, and I'm sure this book will have its fans, but I personally couldn't get past the way the characters behaved with little to no logic. Thank you for the opportunity to read it.

Sadly this book was a bit of a miss for me. I loved her last book full of housewifey drama and expected more of the same. Instead we got a cheesy unbelievable romance between 2 people who spent like 5 days together in an Airbnb as owner and guest. If the airbnb owner was up on me as much as Calvin was up on Grace I would have been out within 24 hours. No Wi-Fi and no car? Cheesy horror movie much? I’ll just hitch a ride thankyouverymuch. It’s better than staying with creepy mccreepster Calvin. And the cliche alcoholic country bumpkins…everyone in this book sucked.

I normally don’t go here but the writing never fully developed and I just could not get past that. The ending wasn’t enough to change my mind or my rating.

Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for access to this ARC.

Grace is looking to unwind from her busy life in NYC. She decides to vacation in Wyoming at a secluded ranch. Her host ends up being handsome and charming - but something feels off as more secrets start to be revealed. Will this be the trip of her dreams? Or her worst nightmare?

The premise of this book is great - lots of creepy things keep you reading despite the slow burn. The action really picks up around 80% in so be aware if you need faster action you won’t find that here. The prose was a bit long-winded which is on par with the pace of this novel. Although I figured out some of the mysteries early on the final twist was a real surprise. I think that someone who likes a slow burn, LOTS of introspective thoughts, and some crazy twists will enjoy this one.

Thank you net galley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book!

Grab your mug of tea because I have thoughts about this next one.
Usually I start with the reasons why you should read or maybe not read a book. But this one kind of fired me up a bit, and you know I gotta be honest about my book reviews and prepare you. And while this may seem like a negative review, there is some positivity, coming… I swear.

The story is about a woman who takes a random vacation to an Airbnb in Wyoming. When she gets there, things feel off, people are creepy, it’s really a red flag situation. But she stays, despite the wifi being out and having no cell service. Oh and then her car breaks down. The owner is this troubled dude with some trauma in his past so she gets the hots for him while everyone else is like “why are you even here?”.
OK at this point I was like what is she even thinking? I wouldn’t stay here, there is too many sketchy things. I thought about DNFing the book, but I read these reviews giving it 5 stars and saying how it’s creepy and has haunted house vibes. So I stuck with it.

I guess I need to also mention that I just don’t think the author’s writing style is for me. It’s too simple and there are some fairly questionable description words thrown around casually like “wife-beater” which is my least favorite word for a tank top ever. I never fully connected to the characters and could never shake that this book was so off putting and nothing made sense in my logical mind as to how they were reacting in the situation.

And then we come to the end, which if you read the book purely for a twisty storyline, you will love. And it totally explains all the red flags, suspicions, creepy tendencies of everything going on, well mostly. And honestly I really want to comment more on this, but I can’t without giving things away. Overall, this book was not for me, but it is sticking with me so at least you know it’s a successful thriller.

A thriller that will have you up all night so be prepared. I wasn’t sure what was going on in the first half of the book but after that the pieces of the puzzle came together and the story got really creepy. There were lots of characters you love to hate and I wish I could have told a few of them off lol! I’m not sure why someone would go to an Airbnb while the person who rented it to you was still there. I found that part a little strange and I dont know why a female would be ok with it. But overall the story was great and was an entertaining fast read.

I enjoyed this title! Grace Evans finds herself in the middle of rural Wyoming trying to escape the hustle and bustle of living in New York City. When she checks into her AirBnB she meets Calvin Wells, a handsome ranch farmer. She slowly begins to explore all the amenities that ranch life offers as she connects with Calvin and meets his friends and family. Her unease grows as she learns there is no cell service, there's a missing woman, and just a general sense that something isn't right.
It started off more as a romance suspense story but picks up near the end with an ending you don't expect.
The story is told from dual points of view which offer different perspectives as the story unfolds.
I read this all in one day. I enjoyed it but I was hoping for more of a thriller when I first picked it up.

I can't wait for the latest Jeneva Rose book to come into the world next week!! I haven't read any of her others but I've heard people talk about them and now that I know her style I can't get enough. The setting was great, the characters were interesting and above all, it was suuuuper bingable. I think I would put this more in the romantic suspense category similar to Layla by Colleen Hoover and less of a thriller but if you go in with that mindset I think you will like it.

This was my face the entire time my husband and I were listening to this - 🥴... but with that being said, although cringey at times, I was highly entertained and couldn't stop listening. That's gotta mean something, right?!

I debated whether or not I wanted to review this book on my feed, but ultimately decided that I have some thoughts and wanted to share those. First, I will admit this book is very entertaining. It was quick, unhinged, and crazy enough to make you want to keep listening.

I don't believe this should be marketed as a thriller. The first 85% of the book is a romantic suspense (leaning more towards slow burn romance). You have two POVs - Grace and Calvin. Grace is a woman from New York who is visiting a very, very small town in Wyoming and renting a room via Airbnb from Calvin. Calvin is a good ole country boy. Who works on his parents farm, and seems like a real peach. These two MCs were the WORST. The stuff that came out of their mouths 🫠

Also, I feel like this relies heavily on the romance, and you can't tell me for one second that after a couple of days they feel the way they do. I know that it all plays into the plot and story, but still.

My last thought is that around the 85-90% mark, I could not stop thinking about where this was going. I knew something had to happen. We've heard nothing but Grace and Calvin's inner thoughts and conversations for hours at this point. We have a missing girl, but we're know closer to finding out what the outcome is, or honestly anything. Then it was like whiplash.

The last 10% comes at you so fast, and I have SO many questions. I don't think I'm going to rate this one - originally it was 3 stars for me, but the more I think about it the more I'm not sure! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I just know when I pick up a book by Jeneva Rose that I’m in for a wild ride! I enjoyed this from beginning to end.

You Shouldn’t Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose

Grace Evans, an overworked New Yorker looking for a total escape from her busy life, books an Airbnb on a ranch in the middle of Wyoming. When she arrives at the idyllic getaway, she’s pleased to find that the owner is a handsome man by the name of Calvin Wells—and he’s eager to introduce her to his easygoing way of life. But there are things Grace discovers that she’s not too pleased about: A lack of cell phone service. A missing woman. And a feeling that something isn’t right with the ranch.

Despite her uneasiness, the two bond and start to fall for one another. However, as her departure date nears, things change for the worse. What began as a playful romance soon turns into a complicated web of lies. Grace grows wary of Calvin as his infatuation for her seems to have morphed to obsession. Calvin fears that Grace is hiding something from him—including her reason for staying at his ranch to begin with. Vacation flings typically end in heartbreak, but for Grace and Calvin, it’ll be far more destructive.

Coming to you on April 25.

I was so excited to read this one but it turned out to be more romance than thriller. I went in blind but if I had known that I don’t think it I would have read it. With that being said, it wasn’t the worst thing I have read. I enjoyed the end and the twist, even though I saw it coming. I would recommend this to romance readers who are considering dipping their toes into thrillers or maybe someone who reads a lot of thrillers but needs a bit of a palette cleanse.
