I’m not sure what I just reads, but it definitely wasn’t what I was expecting. I’ve really enjoyed Jeneva’s books in the past but this one just didn’t work for me. This is marketed as a thriller, but I didn’t find anything thrilling about it. It’s more of a romantic suspense novel. Didn’t enjoy it at all, unfortunately.

Overview: Grace Evans, an overworked New Yorker looking for a total escape from her busy life, books an Airbnb on a ranch in the middle of Wyoming. When she arrives at the idyllic getaway, she’s pleased to find that the owner is a handsome man by the name of Calvin Wells—and he’s eager to introduce her to his easygoing way of life. But there are things Grace discovers that she’s not too pleased about: A lack of cell phone service. A missing woman. And a feeling that something isn’t right with the ranch.
Personally, this book gave me blue balls. You know the bad guy right off the bat, it wasn’t until the last 8% where things started happening and wrapping up. There were too many components: lions, bees, missing people and suspicious deaths. With every turn, it was a major eye roll.
Highlights:
🏠Locked Doors
🤫Family Secrets
☕️Small Town Drama
🦁Shocking Twists
💗Romantic Suspense
Thank you @netgalley for the ARC! This book comes out April 25!
This was surprisingly so good. I don't know WHY I was surprised, I've given all her books 4+ stars, but I just can't believe she wrote ANOTHER great book and hasn't had a dud yet!!! I WAS surprised by the amount of romance in this and was getting really into that storyline until it turned into a thriller which was super fun. This was pretty addictive and I'm looking forward to when it releases so my friends can read it!
Honestly at this point I’d rather eat an entire pot of brown beans, bacon and hot dogs than have to read any more of this dumpster fire. That’s all I’m gonna say.

While I have enjoyed all of Rose's prior books, You Shouldn't Have Come here was a miss for me. This had a lot of slow burn build up to a conclusion that felt rushed.
I can’t say a whole lot without giving anything away… but like this was not a thriller until the last 10% of the book. This was a romance novel and the author got bored writing romance and threw in some murder at the end. So, just go into this book with that knowledge.
This book read more like a romance until the end, which was surprising.
I felt like the ending was very intense, and I could have used a little more there.
The ending was open to interpretation, and was kind of heavy.
Overall, this is a good book, but wasn't as much of an "on the edge of your seat" read that I was expecting given the last book by this author.
Thank you to PRHAudio and Netgalley for the ebook and audiobook. My husband and I listened to this one on our drive home from Florida, and I have some thoughts.
First, it was a lot of lead up to a very dark ending. I kept telling Kyle, “I hope something happens soon”. There were a lot of “Alright, this is it” moments where I thought something spooky would happen, and it just didn’t. A lot of build up. And then the ending was VERY dark and abrupt.
If you like your thrillers more of a slow burn, this one is for you.
Well yes crazy story but this upside down made a perfect thriller for me. Thank you Blackstone Publishing and Netgalley for this arc.
Having both is the best combination you can get. I love to listen and I also love to read.
A family drama is happening in a small town away from everyone. And who would come there to spend a holiday there you can ask. Someone very adventurous but you would never guess how much twisty the book is. Yes maybe you would never do that but all but at the end all make sense.
Based on the synopsis, I wasn't quite sure what to expect going into this book. While I found it slow to start, it really picked up halfway through and I couldn't put it down! The author had me guessing as to what was going on, who I could trust and what everyone's motive was up until the very end. I really ended up enjoying this book, especially because of how much it kept me guessing throughout.
I loved The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose and this one is good, but not quite to that point. It was totally different. The setting is serene until danger lurks and no one appears as they truly are.
Gracie Evans from New York is wanting some R&R time with some good books. She books a Airbnb in Wyoming on a secluded ranch. The ranch hand and owner, Calvin, becomes very involved with her stay until his obsession crosses the line. A lot of weird vibes happen in the town, such as a missing woman that brings her stay to an eerie regret. When her car doesn't start and phone service is at a standstill, the police make matters worse by asking Calvin about the missing girl.
Something is not quite right and neither is the ending! A shocking reveal will have you stunned.
Thank you NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for this ARC in exchange for my review!
Another 5 star twisty thriller from Jeneva Rose! Grace is looking for a change of pace and heads to Wyoming to an Airbnb. Soon after she meets Calvin, a handsome local. But as her stay continues, she slowly uncovers a web of lies where nothing is as it seems. Another fun read from Jeneva!
Once a year Grace takes a vacation to get away from her life in New York. This trip she finds herself at an Airbnb in royal Wyoming. There's not very many things to do in the town, and she finds herself with no cell service or internet at the ranch. Instead she finds Calvin. Calvin owns the home she's staying in and the ranch. They both can't help but notice how attractive they find the other person. Soon into her stay a cop comes knocking asking Calvin if he's seen a missing woman. She was supposed to check into his home a few weeks before, but Calvin swears he's never seen her. Grace has been iffy about this place from the start. She feels like there is something off with the ranch and now she has more questions.
This book was told in Grace and Calvin's POV. It was nice to get both sides of the story. I honestly don't consider this book to be a thriller. I don't know what genre I would put it in. Maybe a suspenseful romance? I don't know what to say about this book. I just couldn't get into it. I didn't like any of the characters. Jeneva Rose's writing is still great and I look forward to her next book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for my ARC, and thank you to Libro.fm for my audio version. I thought the audio was great. I really liked how there was someone for each character.
This is a fun, fast-paced thriller! I really enjoyed this while also loving the cheesy lines. I don't know if that was on purpose or not? But I loved it. A little cliche but also absolutely perfect.
Grace is on a retreat far from home. This country retreat seems welcoming at first, but way too quickly becomes small-town drama. While Grace falls in love with her airbnb host, Calvin, she can't help but notice some discrepancies in his stories. This leads into quite the dramatic and twisty ending.
I enjoyed this. I love watching this author on tiktok. She is absolutely hilarious. And, I'm hoping Scott can at least send a nice note about this one.... the little gremlin..... Anyways, love this read.
Out April 25, 2023!
Jeneva Rose has done it again! Suspenseful with a twist of romance. She writes so beautifully I never see the magical twists, yes plural, coming! I did feel the middle section was a little slow, but the bit of romance she threw in helped carry it along.
I usually enjoy a good mystery or creepy setting but this wasn’t my favorite. It was fine but the twist at the end wasn’t good. Thank you for the copy, I do love reading books of all genres. I’m sure someone will love this book but it wasn’t for me.
What a wild ride! First, I would like to think NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for my gifted eARC and LibroFM for my gifted audio
If you are looking for a super twisty and deceitful thriller then look no further! Grace is looking to get away from the city life for a bit. She rents a cabin in the middle of nowhere Wyoming from a man named Calvin. Calvin also stays on the property
From the moment he meets her, he is obsessed. It definitely gave me Joe Goldberg obsessed You level vibes. But as the days move forward and they spend more time together, secrets and lies threaten to reveal themselves
The local sheriff is looking for a missing girl. Grace suspects Calvin is involved but can’t find any proof. Although rather bizarre events continue to happen each day, Grace continues to stay at the ranch until it’s time to checkout. But will she checkout?
Told in alternating character POV of Grace and Calvin, you will not see this ending coming! The audio narration was amazing and I enjoyed reading my galley while listening to the narrators
I am a huge fan of Jeneva Rose and have LOVED her books ONE OF US IS DEAD and THE PERFECT MARRIAGE and was ecstatic to get my hands on YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE COME HERE. Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. The book felt like it was two different books. The first half felt like a steamy drama and the back half felt like a true thriller that I was looking for. Once the big twist is revealed, I was still left with questions over the motivations of the character the twist centered around. I am still a huge fan of Jeneva Rose and will continue to read her work, but just didn’t love this one
Thank you, Blackstone Publishing, for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
‘You Shouldn’t Have Come Here’ follows Grace Evans, a New Yorker who finds herself looking for a little getaway in middle-of-nowhere Wyoming. Quickly charmed by the small-town lifestyle and her Airbnb host, Calvin. Grace soon finds out everything that it seems in this town. Perfect for fans of Jeneva Rose and Lifetime movies.
Rating: 2.5 stars.
After seeing so much marketing being put into this book, I was super excited to pick it up. I thought it would be a guaranteed read. Everything from the author to the cover and summary sounded incredibly enticing. Unfortunately, this book was not for me, and if I’m being honest, other than how easy it is to blow through, I’m finding it hard to point out any positives in this book.
First, this is not a thriller. It is a slow-burn suspense novel, and I mean incredibly slow-burn because the first 80% is a romance. Frankly, the characters and the story were not fleshed out. Nothing was believable, the romance, the motives etc.
Conceptually, incredible. But the execution seems like it lacked any guidance in the editing process when it came to setting up the story. If you are going to take the route of making the ending this type of plot twist, third person pov is crucial. Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense to the flow of the story. I will say that I was glued to the last 60 pages, but again, 60 pages of action do not override 200+ of anything.
This one is not for me, but best of luck to other readers. I hope you liked it more than I did.
