I adore the author and love her previous books so I was excited to read this one. I did enjoy the sinister vibes, the drama, and the atmospheric setting. Unfortunately, that is all that this one had going for it. Maybe I am in the minority, but this one was a huge miss for me!

First off, this definitely is not a thriller-it is more so a romantic suspense. To be honest, I am not a fan of romance in my thriller books, and this one was full of romance. Also, this was so unrealistic and unbelievable, I had a hard time not rolling my eyes during most of it. I just feel as though the premise of this book sounded so promising and so intriguing, but unfortunately this took a completely different turn than I was hoping for. Also, the characters are so boring and completely unlikeable. I felt that they were so one dimensional and annoying. Nothing interesting happened, and the โtwistsโ were cringe worthy and disappointing.

UGHโI hate to say it, but just donโt bother picking this one up! It is a huge miss and I honestly do not know who would enjoy it.

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing for sending me an early copy of YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE COME HERE by Jeneva Rose. This one publishes on April 25.
I judged this book by it's cover and thought it was a thriller. It's not a thriller but I don't know where I'd actually put it. It's got some definite cringey romance and small town cliches but it also has a little murder in it too. There wasn't any build up to the ending, it was just like a switch flipped at 90%. This was a big ole miss for me.
Jeneva Rose knows how to throw twists and turns at the reader! One moment, you think you know how itโs going to endโฆthen TWIST!
AirBandB host and guest start to fall for each other. But, do their lies harm their relationship or help it? You Shouldnโt Have Come Here had me wanting to read more and more each day and not want to put the book down. Itโs a page turner!
I like that the author does two points of view. Even if there are secrets between the two main characters, I like being able to see what each one is thinking about during their interactions. Interesting read.
Grace Evans, an overworked New Yorker looking for escape from her busy life, books an Airbnb on a ranch in rural Wyoming run by a very handsome Calvin Wells. The lack of cell phone service and WiFi *and a missing woman) make her a little uneasy, but the two grow close during her stay and she's put at ease by his welcoming friends and family. As her departure date nears, things between them change for the worse and Grace grows weary of his infatuation turned obsession with her. And Calvin fears Grace is hiding something from him.
Um... what even was this? This might have been the slowest burn I have ever read in something classified as a thriller, but for some odd reason I kept reading, so there's something to be said about the author's ability to keep my attention despite a lackluster plot. The book was told in dual POV, and the first probably 60% of this was basically a romance with nods to the fact that both of these characters had something they were hiding. For me, there wasn't really any excitement or action until probably the 3/4 mark of the book, which was a little frustrating, but the truly 'wtf' ending of the book tried to make up for it a bit. I had my guesses about what the ending could have been and I could not have been more wrong. This one sadly fell extremely short for me, especially with as beloved of a thriller author Jeneva Rose is.
Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I felt like this was focused too much on the romance aspect and it did not seem genuine to the characters at all. There were also a lot of different contradictions from the characters. This was a dual POV with alternating chapters between Grace and Calvin's POV. One of them would think something to say or do something that completely contradicted their thought. I can't tell if they were plot holes or if it was done on purpose.
Calvin was creepy to me from the beginning and there were so many things that Grace did that just did not make sense to me. I know some of that was done intentionally, again I think it just did not make sense.
There was one plot twist at the end that I did not see coming, but it was not too surprising to me. The build up was just not there so I was not invested. I do think I would have liked this more if the entire book was from Grace's POV and not a dual POV.
I have read and loved previous books by Jeneva Rose so I was hopeful going into this book that I'd get the same bang. Sadly, I didn't. I will say though, that this book was still entertaining. It just wasn't at the same level as what I expected. The first 50% of the book was slow. We meet Grace, who has booked an AirBnB place belonging to Calvin. The two slowly get to know one another, starting to develop feelings. But then a few things start to happen and suddenly the story takes shape. The ending had a few twists which I didn't expect and one that I did predict. Overall, I'm glad I was able to read this book.
After reading The Perfect Marriage and One of Us Is Dead, I thought I needed a romance book from Jeneva Rose. Well, she gave me oneโฆโฆ.but did she stop there? No, she had to add in her twists and turns!
Grace is an overworked New Yorker who picks a random location and takes a vacation. This year her dart landed her at a rural Airbnb on a ranch. Calvin lists his spare rooms on Airbnb to make money and keep the ranch his parents left him going. Calvin is attractive and a romance begins to bloom, but weird things begin to happen at the same time. Making her question Calvin and the mysterious things happening around the ranch.
This is a fast-paced read. As a romance reader, I could see the usual pacing of a romance book, with a little insta-love. The majority of the book is filled with romance with some underlying suspense, secrets, and mystery. Like, Grace, I knew something wasnโt right.
As the story unfolds, the suspense builds. I have to say, the story kept me guessing. I wasnโt quite sure what direction it was going to take. The biggest twist at the end left me with my mouth open. Talk about the unexpected!
This thriller is full of lies, twists, and turns. It will have you turning those pages reading and guessing until the very end.
The audiobook narrators are popular romance book narrators, adding to the romantic vibes. The team responsible for choosing the two narrators did a brilliant job choosing this pair to keep the romantic atmosphere intact.

๐ญWhat I thought would happen:
Itโs Jeneva Rose - cannot stop me from reading anything she writes even though the title is ๐ฏ forgettable.
๐What actually happens:
Grace is an adventurer, she closes her eyes and throws a dart at a map of America which will take her to her next week long getaway from NYC. This time the faits have brought her to middle of nowhere Wyoming stocked full of small town trauma and country bumpkins.
Grace is bunking at the only Airbnb hosted by Calvin. Right away Grace notices womenโs high end clothing left in drawers, an area stocked full of animal carcasses on the property, an obsessive neighbour in love with Calvin, and everyone around town already know her name/are pretty Damn nosey. Is Grace in danger?
๐ฏThoughts:
This was the first Jeneva Rose I didnโt give a 5โญ๏ธ rating to ๐ฅบ, I didnโt dislike I just am still looking for my interest in this book.
I saw the ending coming a quality mile away. In fact Iโd have disappointed if it didnโt pan out the way it did. But I think I just needed more? Maybe Iโm greedy.
I think people will enjoy this if theyโre in the market for just a good ol thriller. Maybe for people more so who havenโt read a 1,000 thrillers/ mysteries and have made it 1/4 of their personality.
Short synopsis: Grace is visiting an AirBnB in Wyoming owned by Calvin, something seems off about him. But heโs charming and a great host.
My thoughts: First of all, I love Jenevaโs previous books. Lots of unexpected twists and turns and she has a way of keeping me flipping pages.
This one, while it was totally bingableโฆ I read it in under 24 hours. But this just didnโt work for me. I found it predictable and not very twisty (until the last like 8% of the book).
This was a very slow burn mystery/thriller but felt more like a romance for the majority of the book. In fact I kept forgetting what genre this was, maybe it was supposed to be a blend of genres? All the action happened right at the very end of the book, where I would have liked to see more excitement throughout.
I will still pick up everything she writes, because she has a great way of writing a strong, takes no crap from anyone, female character.
Read if you love:
- Mash-up of genres
- Small town vibes
- Family secrets
- Everyone is suspicious
- Locked room mystery
- Visiting Air BnBs

Okay soโฆYOU SHOULDNโT HAVE COME HERE may not be the best example of the thriller genre, but it still manages to be entertaining despite its flaws. IMO itโs not until the end that the story actually starts to feel like a thriller. The first 50% feels like a forced, rushed creepy lust fest between the 2 MCโs ๐คช that I could not get behind.
Throughout the book, the plot twists & turns, & the reader is kept guessing as to who the real culprit might be. While some of the plot points are a bit far-fetched & unbelievable, the story does manage to keep your interest. The author does a good job of keeping the tension high & the pace fast & the final reveal is cleverly executed & will likely take you by surprise.
Overall, if you're looking for a fast-paced, suspenseful read, this is worth checking out!

Thank you to Netgalley for my advance copy! I screamed bloody murder when I got it (No pun intended) Itโs no surprise I am a GIANT fan, and she knows it too! She just knows how to write a great thriller and always has a bad ass female in there somewhere.
I do not want to say too much about this because it is twisty AF. Probably her twisty-ist yet!!! No joke! Lots of reviews have been harping on the fact that it is a โromantic suspenseโ versus it being labeled a โthrillerโ and I have to say that while there is some spicy spice-it is still a thriller folks!! Especially with that ending.?! I mean, COME ON! I do like how Jeneva decided to write this one a bit different then her previous novels. I think it shows strength, growth, and overall bad ass talent to switch things up like she does and be good at it each time. I enjoyed the spice and I think it made things that much more messed up and creepy.
Grace was a wonderful main character. She was extremely dimensional, and I felt like I understood all her wariness. I thought Calvinโs perspective was great as well. It kind of keeps the reader on their toes and not actually knowing what is going on at that Airbnb. You can feel the unease radiate off the pages from both of them. If you think you have figured it out-just know you are wrong!!!!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thriller, mystery
This is my first book by Jeneva Rose and I loved it. Tricky, heart throbbing story that kept me on my toes. Enjoy your time with the two unreliable narrators. Creepy townies and a haunted house. I recommend this book.
5 stars
Grace Evans is a city girl and takes a yearly summer vacation flying solo to more subdued areas in the country.
This year sheโs headed to a ranch in Wyoming for 10 days. Once reaching her Air B&B, she meets Calvin the owner and he shows her to her room.
She discovers that there is no Wi-Fi or Cell service at the ranch and Calvin seems to have a thing for her. She goes into town and everyone tells her she needs to leave because bad things happen in that house.
Police begin investigating a missing woman that was supposed to stay there a couple weeks ago, and many other creepy people start showing up. Graceโs car isnโt starting and needs to be repaired, before itโs too late.
3.5 stars.
Jeneva Rose is an author that I will automatically read, because her other works have been fast-paced and there was a building suspense throughout.
This was my least favorite from her as it was truly a Slow-Burner. Only the last 10% of the book, is where I found the past paced, action packed thriller ride that Jeneva is known for.
There was some hints along the way that the twist didnโt completely shock me at the end, but it did make the entire book worth the read!
Thank you NetGalley, Blackstone Publishing, and Jeneva Rose for the advanced copy of You Shouldn't Have Come Here in exchange for my honest review.
This is the first book in I can't even remember how long that I read in one sitting, suffice to say it's extremely bingeable. If you're expecting a run-of-the-mill thriller, I will say you may be slightly disappointed. This is more of a romantic suspense, but the mysteries were absolutely enough to keep me turning pages.
I can pretty confidently guess that very few people are going to guess the ending of this one.
You Shouldn't Have Come Here will be on US bookshelves April 25!
I remember when I found Jeneva Rose on TikTok years ago. She hooked me with The Perfect Marriage and I was thrilled to receive an early copy of You Shouldn't Have Come Here. Jeneva Rose kills yet another edge-of-your-seat thriller in this one I loved that this book kicks off putting your nerves on edge... and then the whole Airbnb vibe... don't count on me checking into one ANYTIME soon. I felt like I consistently wanted to yell at the FMC to RUN FOR THE HILLS!!! No cell service, wifi and a host that is... suspicious?! Nope. I'm out and heading home.
If you love a binge-worthy thriller, don't miss this one!
This book started strong but then fell a tad flat. I thought the middle of the book was a bit repetitive and I honestly wasnโt a fan of the โbigโ twist at the end. Overall this book was very average for me.
Grace likes to get away each year on vacation to somewhere sheโs never been. She leaves her bustling life in New York City and heads to an Airbnb in Wyoming this year - renting a room in Calvinโs house.
I really struggled with how this was written - it felt like both references to the big city life and the country ranching life were written by someone with no experience of either. Descriptions felt so over the top and cliche that it took me entirely out of the story. After glancing at reviews I see a lot that say itโs extremely slow burn with the interesting part not coming until 90% and Iโm not going to stick with it that long.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance reading copy.
I loved the Perfect Marriage, so I had high hopes for You Shouldn't Have Come Here. Unfortunately, this was an underwhelming read. I was craving some action, and it didn't really happen until the last 10%. Even more, I found this story to be completely predictable. The writing was not bad, but I would have liked a little more action throughout.
This book is not what I expected! Some of the twists you could see coming, but I did not see the major twist coming! The whole last two chapters really changed my perspective on the whole book.
