This one was a bit difficult for me to get into. The pacing seemed a bit slow at first, but when it did pick up – WOW did it ever pick up!

I enjoyed the short chapters with alternating points of view which really built the tension for me slowly but surely.

If you enjoy creepy small-town vibes with lots of secrets and lies, this one may be for you.

My thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Have you ever spent the majority of a book wondering when something of interest is going to happen? That was my experience here, but for some odd reason I kept reading it, so there’s something to be said for the author ability to keep my attention despite a boring plot. This might’ve been the slowest burn I’ve ever read and that’s really saying something. There was no excitement or real action until like 85 or 90 percent and I’m sorry, I just don’t have that kind of patience anymore. The last little bit was bat shit and the twist was really good but taking that long to get there was ultimately frustrating. If you don’t mind the slowest of slow burns this may work better for you but it wasn’t for me.

What a twisty new tale from Jeneva Rose! I’ve used them, but in the back of my mind I’ve always had this “what if” thought about Airbnb’s. Rose confirmed my suspicions with this story! JK, my suspicions weren’t nearly this bad! 😂 I was totally creeped out from beginning to end just knowing something was really off about Calvin, and pretty much everyone else in this story. I suspected everyone and I did NOT see that end coming. How could you with so many lies to keep you guessing!?

What I enjoyed;
🌳 Slowww Burn
🌳 Dual POV
🌳 Atmospheric Setting
🌳 Creepy/Twisty Story
👨🏼The Scott Saga

A page turner that I would recommend. I went it mostly blind and you should too!

This book started out super promising. And the ending was good. It was just the middle that didn't work for me. It dragged a little bit. I liked the feeling of dread that seemed to permeate the whole book.

What on earth did I just read? That was completely nuts in so many ways. My head is still spinning at that crazy and out of nowhere ending that I am not sure how I feel about. I thought that I had it figured out but I was far off it wasn’t funny.

This is definitely a popcorn thriller, eventually. The first half of the book felt like a romance novel. City girl heads to a ranch in Wyoming for a 10 day escape. The owner is good looking and suddenly there is a love story happening.. not a fan of romance books. But I had heard that it was worth sticking with so I did. After the halfway point, we had a thriller. But which of the characters could be trusted or believed?

A fun and entertaining read. I read it in under a day and quite enjoyed it.

Thanks to Blackstone Publishing for my advanced reading copy. Published on April 25th

Did I enjoy reading this book? Yes. Was I fairly annoyed by it? Also yes.
For a good portion of this book, it felt like a hokey romance rather than a suspenseful thriller. There were just too many cheesy lines and metaphors. For example, "She pressed the tip of the pen against the paper. The ink bled, forming a large circle. When you held on to something too long, it always left a mark. The same was true for people." A couple of metaphors like that in a book is fine, but this one had so many that it became cringy. I was also often second-hand embarrassed at how cheesy their interactions with each other were.
No matter how hokey it might have been though, I still found it to be a page-turner. There were lots of subtly suspicious things that kept happening that made be desperate to know how it was going to turn out. The ending was fun, but it did not necessarily seem to fit the rest of the book's vibe.

The beginning of the book played out like a romance. Girl goes to air bnb and falls for the handsome lonely ranch owner that runs it. Everyone seems to have secrets though - Calvin, Charlotte, Joe, Betty. What is truly going on at this ranch and who can be trusted?
How it played out was fantastic!! Did not see the ending coming at all. Highly recommend to all!

One of my biggest fears is that an Air BnB host of a house I stay at will end up being a murderer, so I was very excited to read a story where one of my personal fears is addressed! This was an interesting thriller and I enjoyed it! Now I'll likely never stay at an Air BnB again LOL!

Thank you for the digital ARC. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

Beyond.

Overall, I enjoyed the atmospheric setting of this book! There were a few animal related nuances that didn’t really make sense for the story but I will look past that for my review.

Jeneva Rose knows how to tell a crazy story that is EXTRA. I was able to finish this one in 48hours and was intrigued by this thriller turned romance novel.
While, I enjoyed the premise the ending was a little out there - If you know you know. I love that Rose writes wild unrealistic endings but this one was a little over the top!

If you are looking for a binge worthy thriller that turns into an obsession based love triangle. Well, hello it’s ME 🤯💔🔪

Very unique and timely story. It felt kind of juvenile at some points. Maybe just not for me. Many thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this copy for review

I was so excited to get an advance reader’s copy of this book because I loved the author’s last two books, but this one was a little disappointing for me. It is a very slow burn and I found it quite predictable - I know everyone was shocked by the twist at the end, but I saw that one coming a mile away

Thank you to NetGalley, Blackstone Publishing and Jeneva Rose for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

Ok, I have so much to say but I'm not sure how to start this off...I wanted to love this one SO MUCH! I love Jeneva Rose, and I loved her previous three books- One of Us is Dead was amazing and I LOVED The Girl I Was! So when I found out I was approved for You Shouldn't Have Come Here, I was beyond excited since it was one of my most anticipated books for 2023. I hate to say it but I was SO disappointed...

First off- I felt like there was no beginning. This book starts off with Grace driving to her Wyoming Airbnb but I had no idea why she was going there, where she was from, how long she was going to be there, or really anything about her. I would've loved a little more backstory for her before just jumping into her driving the dusty roads to Wyoming.

At first I had to keep double checking that this book was indeed a thriller because it felt like I was reading a romance. I have no idea how this is being marketed as a thriller because there was no suspense or thrills, just creepy vibes from Calvin. I loved the plot and feel like it had so much potential but it just fell flat for me. I found myself rolling my eyes at just about every page for the first half of the book...For example- Grace throws a dart at a map and wherever it lands is where she goes, ok fine I can get behind that idea, but this time she lands on this small town in the middle of nowhere and she's going to be staying at some random guy's house while he's there, and instead of bringing regular pj's she's bringing neglige's?! This is so unrealistic I just had to roll my eyes. Their instant "chemistry" felt so forced and unbelievable I just had to skim past it after awhile because it just drove me crazy. Calvin gave off such creepy vibes I couldn't understand why Grace stuck around. I also got so sick of him describing her blue eyes as "blue, blue". Like we get it, Grace had really blue eyes.

**SPOILERS**

I had two theories on where this book/twist was headed and while I was right, I personally I was so disappointed that the twist went the way it did. It felt so forced and out of left field I just couldn't get behind it. My other theory was that Grace was the sister or best friend of the girl who went missing a few weeks before and I WISH it had gone in that direction, the final chapter would've made so much more sense in my opinion!

If you're new to the thriller genre, you might love this book! For me I like more suspense and action and mystery to my thrillers vs romance but thats just me!

I HATE to do this but for me it was a 2.5 star read but rounded up to 3.

The writing was simpler than I anticipated for the genre, to the point I though this perhaps should've been labeled YA. The characters were unlikeable, so I never got invested enough to care about the outcome. The pace was active, but the ending was too unbelievable, even for fiction. There were also some plot holes.

💫 You Shouldn’t Have Come Here 💫
By Jeneva Rose
Publisher: Blackstone Publishing (April 25.2023)
Genre: thriller

Felt like this book started in the middle of it? Like I was missing the start of it? Because it begins with Grace arriving at a secluded ranch air Bnb in Wyoming and instantly both MC are talking about attraction to each other.

It’s the negligée on a ranch that felt off and the creepy vibes that Calvin gives off from the start

Couldn’t put my finger on it but I kept thinking it started about 40% in the book and my thriller brain wanted more of the early suspense.. aka the lead up.

But then with 8% left I was left with the twist and then a second one on the last couple pages. This book was a 3 star the entire time for me (entertainingly fine but something missing) until the end. Loved the ending! Settling at 4 stars but if the author is new to you, start with One Of Us is Dead. Total beach thriller

Side note, I LOVED the idea that Grace had that she threw a dart into a map and took a holiday there. Maybe I’ll try that one day too and make sure it’s lands on my bucket list places instead of some Alfred Hitchcock ranch

I didn’t much care for this one. Too many one-dimensional characters and meaningless details that I suppose were meant to be “red herrings.” I did keep reading, hoping it would get better, but unfortunately it did not. The big twist at the end—yeah, ok, I didn’t really see that coming, but it also felt arbitrary not like a deserved payoff. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Definitely kept me guessing and trying to figure out what was going on with everyone in this book! I loved The Perfect Marriage and recommend it to everyone and can absolutely see myself doing the same with this book

Love Jeneva Rose! She knows how to hook up her readers with her tricky, heart throbbing, unputdownable stories and knows how to increase the pressure, keeping you on your toes, sucker punching you with her crazy twists

Wow! Loved this book and love Jeneva!!! Such a great plot and plot twist!! The book was moody, creepy, scary and entertaining. There’s not many authors who I get this excited about- she’s definitely one of the top!

Jeneva Rose has quickly become a go-to author for me. Her thrillers are original and suspenseful, and the latest is no exception. Fans beware! This one's a slow, slow burn, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering where the story's going, and just when you think you have it all figured out: BAM. Nothing is what it seems and this shocking twist will leave readers completely shocked. I was.
