You Shouldn’t Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose

Grace Evans, an overworked New Yorker looking for a total escape from her busy life, books an Airbnb on a ranch in the middle of Wyoming. When she arrives at the idyllic getaway, she's pleased to find that the owner is a handsome man by the name of Calvin Wells -- and he's eager to introduce her to his easygoing way of life. But there are things Grace discovers that she's not too pleased about: A lack of cell phone service. A missing woman. And a feeling that something isn't right with the ranch.

Despite her uneasiness, the two bond and start to fall for one another. However, as her departure date nears, things change for the worse. What began as a playful romance soon turns into a complicated web of lies. Grace grows wary of Calvin as his infatuation for her seems to have morphed to obsession. Calvin fears that Grace is hiding something from him -- including her reason for staying at his ranch to begin with. Vacation flings typically end in heartbreak, but for Grace and Calvin, it'll be far more destructive.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of YSHCH! This book kept me hooked. I could not put it down and read it in less than 10 hours. I will say I was expecting more shock value and twists. There is one twist that shocked me but I just wanted more.

Grace and Calvin…family and friends…vacation… beautiful landscapes …scary situations…this talented author has written a cannot put down novel. A page turner. This book would make a thriller movie…murder and intrigue. Red herrings abound. I did not guess the ending…it just did not occur to me that this book would end like this…none of the characters are likable. They don’t trust each other. This story moves quickly. Rose is gifted at keeping the reader on edge…guessing…this book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review.

I spent the first 35% of this book trying to figure out what was going on, and the next 70% second guessing myself in my theories. If you love a suspenseful thriller with some spice added in, this one is for you. Grace Evans takes a vacation to Wyoming and stays with Airbnb host, Calvin. Without cellphone service, Wi-Fi, and a group of locals who want her gone, her whole trip is one thing after the other. We also read from Calvin’s point of view, but is he as sweet as he seems? Is his past as genuinely tragic as Grace is hearing, or is it all an act? This one will have you guessing until the very end, and the ending will leave a pit in your stomach.

I really enjoyed reading this book once I got about halfway in, so I’m withholding the 5th star for that reason. The beginning was a little slow for me, but the last half went by very quickly. The repetitive nature of “blue, blue eyes” gave me the clue that it would be a major plot point, so I was waiting for the moment when Grace became the villain. The twist that they were both culprits made a lot of sense, but it also doesn’t really give the reader anyone to root for. Overall I do think this book is solid and I thank you very much for the opportunity to read it.

You Shouldn't Have Come Here is another dynamite book by Jeneva Rose.

Grace takes a break from her life in New York and goes to stay on a very remote ranch in Wyoming. The world in Wyoming is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of New York life.
While there Grace starts a romance with Calvin - and I enjoy some romance in my mysteries. Then her beau begins to swerve from romantic encounter to obsession. Grace has to solve the mystery of a woman who previously disappeared without a trace - and Calvin is a likely suspect.

Twists and turns make this a compelling read. The scenery is described so well that I felt I could almost touch it.

Holy cow! Talk about a plot twist and totally shocking story! So darn good. Hard to say anything without giving too much away. Just a great page turner that goes in a direction you would never expect.

When you know that a book is considered “suspense” you are constantly thinking what could the twist be while you’re reading. You are constantly trying to guess who the “bad guy” is. I love when the book can shock me. It’s always a fun surprise for it to end differently than you expect. This was a fun story to read and it definitely kept me guessing!

FRIENDS

I uhh don't know how to review this.

I don't know if I even want too.

Ok I will, but I'll keep it short.

You Shouldn't Have Come Here was just a massive miss for me. The writing seemed lazy, the characters were boring, and the ending was a letdown. About 85% of this book felt more like a romance than a thriller. It just went back and fourth between the characters trusting each other to thinking they were hiding something. I don't know. Wasn't for me.

This is probably my favourite thriller of 2022! Simply obsessed.

I was worried about the dual POV because I read another thriller book where there are multiple POVs, and it did NOT work, but I found it actually worked here to create more uncertainty.

I genuinely was left guessing in the first half of the book and had no idea what was going on, because it read more like a small town rom-com, which made me all the more uneasy about when the shoe would drop and how.

The cast of characters all left me guessing and I thought I had it all figured out about 5 different times, but nothing could have prepared me for that ending!

I loved the writing, the pacing and the characters. Everything about this was just perfect.

The ONE issue I had was her excessive and unironic use of the word "Mosey" lol

What an amazing read once again from Jeneva Rose!!! I was hooked and engaged right from the beginning with the stellar writing and pacing. This is so atmospheric and creepy with twists and turns at every corner. I feared for the stability of the pages of the book as they were just dripping with tension and suspense at every moment.

I was at all times either enthralled by the relationship building, terrified of the unknown, or curious about the development of the cast of characters laid out before me. But above all, I was always itching to turn the next page and keep going.

Five stars once again for a writer who seems to be on a rocket trajectory that not even gravity can pull back down.

I have never read a Jeneva Rose book before I do follow her on TikTok, so this is my first time reading her, and this is great. This was an entertaining read; it was thrilling. I found myself feeling legitimately creeped out.
If you like small-town mystery thrillers that are fast pace with family secrets and unreliable narrators, this is the book for you.

𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒏'𝒕 𝑯𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒆 is a great example of a well-done cross-genre novel. I loved the first-person dual POV, and the atmospheric vibes in the first half of the book. I was definitely sitting there wondering, “Okay, but what’s the catch?”

Then, the twist—and the action that just didn’t quit once it started. Bravo, Ms. Rose…👏👏👏

I read the entire thing in a day. It was super fast paced and gave me an icky feeling the whole time- like any great book like this would. I figured out a portion of the ending pretty early but thought the reasoning would be different…. There were a lot of clues. But it was pretty fun

I always have problems picking out a good mystery. This was exactly what I was looking for. I’m usually able to guess the killer, but I wasn’t able to until the last 20 pages.

This book turned out to be incredibly predictable and the characters were very dull and drab. I just could not find myself invested in the story at any point.

I wanted to enjoy this as the premise sounded wonderful, but ultimately I found the relationship and the characters to be both dull and dry,. The mystery and thriller element also was super campy, and while I enjoy a bit of camp, everything to me was expected. Even the "twists".

Unfortunately, this book did not work for me. The characters felt extremely surface level and their interactions choppy. I wanted to love this one but I was not getting the atmospheric vibes I've heard from others and it did not feel like a thriller for the first 60% of the book. Both characters were unlikable. The ending "twist" was definitely interesting but it felt rushed. I feel like having the female POV ruined the mystery and discovery of the twist. This just wasn't enjoyable for me.

Ooh, I did NOT see this ending coming! I really love books with unreliable narrators, and this fit right into that category. But who was the unreliable one? Can you trust ANYONE in this book??? I couldn't put this one down, nor can I really think of any recent books to compare it to. I can, however, recommend it and say that you're going to thoroughly enjoy reading this!

A superb fast paced thriller. I absolutely loved the story and couldn’t stop reading it. It’s perfect for all readers, especially thriller lovers.

Grace needs a change of scenery from her hectic New York life. She selects a remote Wyoming Airbnb that seems picture perfect, well maybe except no cell service and no WIFI. Along with this great location comes the attractive ranch owner Calvin who becomes obsessed with Grace. Grace on the other hand feels things are not quite what they seem, but she second guesses herself and ignores the warning signs.
Oh, my goodness, this story has so many twists and turns. Call in to work sick now because you will want to stay up until you get this one finished. I will be recommending this one to everyone that loves a good thriller that keeps you guessing until the end.
This is the first novel I have read by Jeneva Rose, but it will not be the last. Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I have always been afraid to book an Airbnb. Now I don’t think I ever will! My heart was pounding on page 3 of this book! I couldn’t stop reading to find out what all the big secrets were and why so many people had died in such a short amount of time. This book is perfect for fans of “he’s a 10 but…” stories. I would call this one “he’s a 10 but…his last girlfriend died in a mysterious car crash”
