The house is evil yet so much potential to make it fabulous again. The story is divided by past and present. Both pieces are interesting. The utter trust of someone willing to help with chronic pain. But why do the women trust him? The setting of a large home on a sea cliff is enticing. Makes me want to shake these women. I was pulled into the story, by the families left behind, and legal battle of who owned the house. Well done!

A great thriller - I would recommend it!
This is a fast paced thriller. There are some twists and turns. The characters are well developed. The story is told over a dual timeline. The ending was a surprise. A compelling story
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review. This book was so full of mystery and questions that compelled me to carry on reading so I could learn the answers. I really enjoyed it and was very impressed with the twists and surprises. The story had depth to it and I felt that the ending tied up all the loose ends perfectly. I felt a whole range of emotions while reading this book and was completely shocked by the culprit of the story. I’d definitely recommend this book and have given it 4 stars.
This is a difficult read at times but highly compelling. Good characters and an interesting plot. I will look out for more from the author.
I really enjoyed this mystery overall.
The story was a grabber about a very dysfunctional family, a few murders, the plight of women seeking medical care who get ignored and the protagonist, Gabby, who does not give up trying to solve the mystery surrounding her beloved mother's death.
Twists and surprises keep you turning the pages!
This would have been a 4 star read for me except the ending went on steroids and just seemed highly unbelievable.
I look forward to reading other books by this new to me author.
I received a copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via Tandem Collective UK as part of a readalong.
Believe Me is a fast paced thriller about a lawyer called Gabby who's returned to her home town to work and is suffering psychological trauma due to loosing her mum as a child just before she turned forty and now that Gabby is at the same age this trauma has intensified. After a phone call to tell her her estranged father has been assaulted and is in the hospital, things start to escalate for her. Her health deteriorates and after discovering her mum is on the deads for an old house called Ocean Heights she enters into a wild chase to discover why she's on these deeds, how she really died and what she starts to unravel is a shocking turn of events. This story has a few twists and turns some I saw coming and some I didn't. I did feel there was a little too much being thrown at this story but did enjoy the ending as it all came together.
Trigger Warnings: gaslighting, cult, emotional and mental abuse, medical negligence, and medical gaslighting.
I was lucky to receive an advance copy of Believe Me by Dreda Say Mitchell; Ryan Carter from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. This was a big time chilling story of brave women that has a lot of twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. Great book and worth the read.
This was an interesting suspenseful story with a lot going on. The main character Gabby is a lawyer who finds her mom's name on papers for a house involved in a property dispute. Her mother died 25 years ago and the story alternates between the present day and 25 years ago. It touches upon some disturbing themes of domestic abuse and medical gaslighting and definitely made me angry so I was engaged.
This was a story that I couldn’t put down as each chapter just kept getting better and better.
Many thanks to Amazon Publishing UK and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was disappointed with this book. I found the writing jumbled and confusing. Also, the characters were in my opinion not believable and badly formed.
What a horrible father and the sister is nearly as bad. I did have to reread parts because I became confused but in the end they made sense. I really enjoyed reading this book especially from a female doctors perspective.
Believe Me, by Dreda Say Mitchell and Ryan Carter is the mystery that keeps on giving.
Gabby Lewis believes that she's going to die soon just like her mom did. Then she finds out that her mom was connected to the mansion that her law firm is working on. Now she no longer believes that her mom's death was natural and she's determined to find out the truth no matter the cost.
Believe Me is a psychological thriller with many twists and turns. The story moves along quickly using a dual timeline; present day and chapters 25 years earlier. The narrative is straightforward and the main characters, Gabby, aged 39 (and 14) and her mother, Marcia are well-drawn. I could not predict the ending of this taut and compelling thriller. Highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Amazon Publishing UK via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
This was an okay book but I had a hard time trying to get through it. I wasn't really interested in the characters and had to make myself finish.
Believe Me is an intriguing story about deception, love, lies, domestic abuse, untreated psychological problems, and crime. It has a good plot, is well-written, and is easy to read, and it kept me entertained from beginning to end although I had guessed who the culprit was quite soon.
I thank the authors, their publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC.
Thanks to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing UK for this well written eARC. This was very well done. The story was set out right and kept me reading. Well flushed out characters and just an well done story. This book should get more attention as it is good.
Gabby is a lawyer she’s 39 and has recently moved back to the seaside English Village where she grew up and although her sister keeps warning her not to fall for their Dad’s tricks when the hospital called saying he was beaten up and was rushed to urgent care she leaves work when she arrives her dad is his normal salty demanding self and Gabby knows she isn’t staying long but right before she leaves the detectives investigating her dad‘s assault case comes to introduce himself.. gabby has an instant rapport with Detective Craven but whether it’s good or bad she cannot decide but she acts like the dutifull daughter then quickly takes her leave. Her sister is an Instagramer and she’s married to Luke someone Gabby knows for certain she doesn’t like that much but when she gets a file from Work showing her mom was the estate agent for oh Home called Ocean Haven gabby is more than intrigued because her mom didn’t have two nickels to rob together much less the cash or prominence to be put in such a position. When she asks her sister Selena about it her sister and trust she should let it go. Their mom is dead and Selena thinks Gabby should let her rest but this is something Gabby cannot let go and win the suspect to her dad the salt is someone from the past Gabby feels she is getting closer to the answer unfortunately looking for the answer will put her and everything she knows into question. I really like this book and after reading it I thought it could’ve went either way a really great book or a totally terrible read but now that I am done I would definitely recommend the spot it held my interest until the very end there a twist I didn’t see it coming and will definitely give this a solid four star rating I did think the characters could’ve been flushed out a little more but I think when you’re already suspending belief a talented author will keep you interested in these authors certainly achieve that. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
This thriller by Dreda and Ryan has a message about people especially women being heard by the medical profession. I think this problem has improved over the years but there is certainly a need for Doctors to listen carefully to their patients about their concerns with their health issues. This story is told over two time lines twenty five years apart. Gabby is a lawyer and on getting a job about the disputed ownership of a large coastal house in the town where she grew up she’s shocked to see her mother’s name on the paperwork. Looking into it further Gabby had no idea she was stirring up things from her own childhood all those years ago. Will Gabby and her family finally get closure after so many years.
This is my first book written by co-written by Dreda Say Mitchell and Ryan Carter. The lead character Gabrielle Lewis is a lawyer working on property dispute case to review regarding the ownership of a house on the cliff known as Ocean Haven. She is somewhat taken aback to discover a connection to her dead mother and decides to look into the matter. Several aspects of the book I found appealing were the lead character fearing her own early death, family secrets and the creepy history of Ocean Haven. I enjoyed the time shift between present day and 25 years prior with her mother's story. The book was twisty, psychological and suspenseful! I will definitely read more by these authors.
