I was so grateful for the chance to read this, however, I just found that the writing didn’t fit my style. I read 3 chapters until i decided to move on to something else.
"The hair-raising story of a mother who moves herself and her daughter across the country to lose a dangerous stalker—only to discover that it will take more than distance to escape him."
I really enjoyed this book! It's not necessarily a "can't put down" thriller but a slow burn of suspense / mystery leading to a fulfilling ending. Extra creepy vibes complete with unwanted gift baskets and unrelenting notes. I thought at several points I figured out who the stalker was but Joshilyn had me gobsmacked!
I especially liked Joshilyn’s characterization of Maribel’s daughter Honor as being on the spectrum. I thought she did an excellent job of including a neurodivergent character without stereotyping. A solid plot that's super different; if you love a suspenseful mystery, pick this one up.
Thank you NetGalley, William Morrow and Joshilyn Jackson for letting me read “With My Little Eye” in exchange for an honest review.
This book i was so excited for, as the story sounded interesting but I was left so confused. It seemed to blend together, I never knew who was doing what and it didn't feel realistic. If you are a big thriller reader, this will most likely fall short
3.5 Rounded up.
The story is about a popular movie actress who has an uncanny intuition that someone is watching her... a stalker. He writes her threatening letters and stalks her so she moves from LA back to her hometown in Georgia.
There are some interesting characters in this one, and I really liked the storyline with good solid writing, but what I did not like was the weak main character Meribel Mills. She was so wishy washy it drove me crazy. I like a heroin to be strong and sensible. Meribel wasn't, and she ran away when things got hard in her life. It had so much promise, and there were two things going one in this one, which gave it a great twist! Lots of twists and turns in this one and had me guessing who the stalker was until it all came together at the end. I did like the book so much so I purchased the audio version, and it was good but Meribel had a whiny voice that drove me crazy. I really love Joshilyn Jackson's books, and I look forward to her next one. I do recommend this book whoever likes a good mystery/suspense.
A special thank you to William Morrow Publishing via NetGalley for the advanced readers copy.
I had mixed feelings on Mother May I and wanted try out another Joshilyn Jackson novel to see if I'd enjoy it more. I'd say I'm still mixed! The first 2/3 of this book is incredibly slow and I almost DNF'd, but then there is a BIG twist and it all seems to come together and it really turns around. POV was confusing at times as there were many characters and they weren't labeled. Overall, was quite entertained the last part of the book, but I'm not sure if it was for me.
I love this author and I loved her narration. Unfortunately this story just didn’t pull me in or hold my attention very much.

Synopsis: It started with the letters…
For actress Meribel Mills, disturbing fan mail is part of the price of fame. So when she starts getting creepy letters written in fruit-scented marker she is mostly unphased and diligently files them along with her other messages from unhinged fans. After all, she’s a single mom approaching forty, not the kind of hot young celeb who sparks dangerous obsessions. But there’s something different about Marker Man…
He’s been in her home…
Meribel’s sheets smell of unfamiliar cologne, and objects have gone missing around the house. Plus, the letters have become more perverse, with drawings of a naked Meribel tied up or chopped into pieces. While the police insist that stalkers hardly ever escalate to violence, Meribel has played the dead girl one too many times on TV to risk becoming her in real life. She and her daughter move from Los Angeles to Atlanta for a fresh start—but no distance is great enough.
He’s watching her…
Years of being in front of a camera have given Meribel a superpower—she can feel eyes on her, a creeping sensation like bees inside her skin. And someone definitely has her in their sights. Could Marker Man have followed her all the way across the country?
Who else might be watching—her ex-husband? The lover she left behind in LA? Her new neighbor? Suddenly, every man in her life is a suspect, but she can’t keep herself and her daughter safe from a monster she can’t identify. When the paths of all of these men collide, Meribel will find herself alone in the fight of her life, desperate to protect those she loves as danger closes in from all sides.
My Thoughts: This is slow burn thriller, with the thriller part incurring in the last part of the book. However, when the twists start coming, they don’t stop, it is one after another, after another. The last part was definitely exciting and heart beating fast. Meribel moved across country to get away from her stalker. She meets some interesting characters along the way. Her adopted daughter, Honor, is autistic. I think the author did a good job with this aspect.
The book is narrated by multiple characters, Meribel, Honor, Cam, Cooper, and some others, in their POV, it became too confusing. The chapters were not labeled so, it was hard to tell where one began and the other ended. I would have to read a few lines to understand whose POV was narrating. Some of the leading stories to the plot were not necessary, and even if they were, could have been wrapped up shorter. Some of the relationships were also irrelevant and could have been left out, while focusing on the more relevant relationships. Some of the subplots did not impact the overall plot, and at times were hard to follow.
The part as briefly mentioned is twisty, and even unpredictable. It really made getting through the first part worth it. The ending is surprising, creative, and I loved it. Usually Jackson’s writing style delivers a solid thriller, so I would still read other books of hers in the future. I just felt like the writing was not as solid as it normally is for this story. I would recommend giving this book a read, or even picking up the audiobook for a listen.
The characters weren’t that interesting except for Honor, the first half was very slow then a twist happened, and then the story ended abruptly. No resolution, no explanations, just ended. Not sure I’d recommend this except for Honor’s part.
With My Little Eye by Joshilyn Jackson is a story about Meribel, a famous actress, who has a stalker. She moves across the country with her daughter to get away and "hide". Unfortunately, this does not work out in her favor. This actually escalates the situation. I enjoyed the way the way it started slow and then the drama/horror got much more intense. I felt the ending was a little fast. As always, Jackson is great with southern settings and characters. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this. All opinions are my own.
⭐⭐.5/5
• stalker suspense
• POV was confusing
Unfortunately, I just didn't connect to the characters or the story. The writing also seemed kind of all over the place. Things did pick up a little with the ending which is why I'm giving it this rating.
🗣️ Thank you to @netgalley and William Morrow for the opportunity to read and review this book via gifted eARC! All opinions are honest and my own.
This one had all the eerie creepy vibes!! It was super addicting to read (especially the last half of the book!)
Meribel’s fame has attracted numerous unhinged fans, but her most recent stalker is different and more threatening. When she and her daughter move across the country to escape, it seems he may have followed. Now all of the men in her life are suspects, but she can’t keep herself and her daughter safe until she figures out who this person actually is.
I always love Joshilyn Jackson’s books–she has this sly, witty voice that always draws me in, and now that she’s gone into thriller territory, she’s become a master of misdirection and surprises. I was a bit dissatisfied by the overall ending of this, just because it ended abruptly and I wanted a few more answers. But on the whole, I was hooked and loved this dark thriller.
A single mother and adopted daughter move across the country to escape a stalker. This thriller kept me guessing until the very end. While I enjoyed the thriller aspect of the book, my favorite character of the book was Honor, the daughter who is on the autism spectrum. Her perspective was perfectly written and adds the right amount of wit and charm.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC
I loved the story line of this book! I wish there had been another chapter to give us closure and know what happened and how they covered up the death
I got into this book pretty quick. I had read some reviews that said the first half was boring, but by that point I was already 30% in and really interested. There was a curve ball thrown in a little over halfway through that I did not expect. The 2nd half was definitely a lot more fast paced than the first half but the ending felt really rushed and like it just ended. No closure epilogue. Just done, which was disappointing. In hindsight, there were alot of unneeded side plots that felt like they were out there as filler. Maybe they were there to throw you off the stalkers scent but I wouldn't have figured out who it was even without those side plots so it felt like extra fluff. Overall I'll give it 3 stars bc of the abrupt ending and filler story.

Actress Meribel Mills is a single mom approaching forty years old. She is used to to receiving disturbing fan mail. However, it isn’t until she starts getting creepy letters written in fruit-scented markers that alarm bells start ringing. These letters from “Marker Man” start to become more perverse and nasty so Meribel makes the decision to move her and her autistic daughter halfway across the US. Meribel is confident this move has gotten rid of Marker Man until a package shows up at her new house.
This thriller is told by multiple POV’s which makes it hard to know who to trust. One of those POV’s was from Meribel’s autistic daughter, Honor. This POV was by far my favorite to read while I found Meribel’s POV a bit irritating. This book kept me guessing but the twist didn’t punch me in the gut as I found it easy to figure out.
Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins for the ARC
Not sure why I bothered finishing this one. The first part seemed to drag on and then bam it’s over. So many storylines left hanging, and no real cohesion. Reading thriller fiction you sometimes have to put aside real probability but this story had you doing that the whole time.
This story is interesting, but it is drawn out for the first half. Mirabel is an actress who is being stopped. She moves across the country to get away from her stalker, and yet he continues to find her.
This really wasn't my favorite JJ book. I cared for none of the characters except for Honor. The ending just didn't sit well with me.
